DTH: one UNC football player got 93 parking tickets corresponding to 9 different plates and at least 5 different cars

Full story.

Also, this WRAL article has loads of good stuff, including these two paragraphs.  Can anyone understand the second paragraph bolded below?  If you do, please post an explanation in the responses.

One of the cars, a grey dodge charger, is registered to Gregory Lamar Little who is Greg Little’s father. Wide receiver Little, who attended Hillside High School in Durham, NC, was declared “permanently ineligible” by the NCAA in October for accepting an estimated $4,952 in benefits.

The VIN number associated with the car registered to the Little family is also listed as the VIN number for three other license plate numbers that received parking tickets. The car with that VIN number got at least 16 tickets. Tickets were issued to that VIN number with three different license plates, including one 24-period where it got two tickets and had two different plates.

Stay tuned.  No doubt more bombshells to come.

7pm Update: Joe Ovies talks “big picture” about why the parking tickets matter (WRAL.com). Meanwhile, the media appears to still be pouring through the phone records, which may make the parking violations seem like nothing more than an unpleasant dream.

Even if Little was by far the worst offender, I’m hoping the fact that he’s already been “punished” has no tempering effect on what the NCAA hands down as punishment. Sure, it’ll validate what rulings have already been made but I hope it also speaks strongly to the character of the program at large, its players, coaches and administration.

It seems to be getting worse and worse for them. I’m licking my chops over here.

Are parking tickets an ncaa violation? Nothing to see here folks unless we find a car registered to a donor.

  5. Mike 06/16/2011 at 5:00 PM #

Seems to me the 2nd paragraph mentions a VIN number. Several tags are registered to the VIN number.

Do thye change plates like most people change underwear? Or has the title of the car changed frequently? Maybe a booster owned it, sold it to Little’s father for next to nothing, who sold it to Jr? Or maybe an agent is in there as well. Who knows but certainly there is some funny business going on.

A Dodge Charger seems to be worth more than just under $5K in benefits. Just saying………

Parking tickets may not be an NCAA violation, but it shows the kind of folks old Butch has in his program. A coach/agent, a tutor to cheat for all the players, money and gifts are illegal for other Student Athletes, not for them. Parking tickets, do not worry they are above the law in that town. What a cesspool! Lack of Institutional Control you think?

Mr. Little the last time he played at carter finley scored a touchdown and then drop kicked the ball into the stadium crowd. Of course unsportsman penalty was called. Well Mr. little went off the field and Butch didn’t say a word to him. Next time the offense came on the field Mr. Little was out there. Bottom line “Butch don’t give a flying fudge what the players do as long as they win”. This is one example of the whole problem they face over there in chapel hill. Here is another example of Mr. Little and his attitude again.

Okay, It’s my understanding that a vehicle may never have more than one VIN number. That legally establishes who owns or leases that vehicle. It’s also my understanding that a vehicle may never have more than one license plate at a time. The question I have is, why were the license plates changed three times on the vehicle registered to Greg Little’s dad, including twice within a 24-hour period? If I were a police officer calling in the plate on that vehicle, I would become highly suspicious if it didn’t match up to the registered owner. This raises more questions than there are answers…which is exactly why UNC didn’t want to have to release that information.

Did a little research. I’ll leave the hardcore plate lookup to people with more time on their hands.

Found this quote on UNC Advising’s Registration site:

“Take care of all outstanding stops on your UNC accounts. Fines from parking tickets, overdue books, and stops such as academic eligibility holds or Student Affairs holds will be listed on Student Central under “Stops.” These stops will prevent you from registering for a future term at UNC and from obtaining transcripts from the Registrar’s Office.”

If this is the case, how were the athletes able to enroll in classes after their tickets still haven’t been paid? From the WRAL article, “There are still 35 outstanding tickets for $1,250 that fall within the public records request time frame from March 2007 to August 2010.” And if they aren’t enrolled in classes, how are they academically eligible to play football?

    Nothing to see here, folks.

“Mr. Little the last time he played at carter finley scored a touchdown and then drop kicked the ball into the stadium crowd.”

    You’ve got incidents mixed up.

Last time Mr Little played in the Carter – he made a good block on Jarvis Byrd – and blew out his knew. While Byrd was lying on the ground w/ a blown out knee, Mr. Little was talking sh*t to him for all to see.

In their bowl game – which was either their next game or after the Duke game – Little kicked the ball in the stands vs. WV.

Pure Class – Pure Butch – Pure Tar Heels!

I’ll take the VIN question.. first your paragraph does not match WRAL.. not sure who is right, but the one above looks like it was written by someone missing a few words (or brain cells). Wouldn’t put it past WRAL to miss that one.. they are TV right?

Ok.. here is how I understand it (and the paragraph is POOR english written by someone not sure about what they are writing. dodge charger? really.. not caps???)

Little Family has a car with a VIN (say 123ABC456GHI789)
The car got 16 parking tickets
HOWEVER… that same car also had 3 different license plates tied to it (think James Bond with the revolving license plate)

During one 24 HOUR (key word missing above) period – the Dodge Charger got two tickets but on two different license plates.

    In summary
    One Dodge
Three license plates (two could be explained.. we sold the car, but 3?)
    Sixteen tickets
    Zero answers

I was hoping Greg Little Bitch would have gotten re-instated Spurrier Style so Audi Cole could lay him out this year.

  13. highstick 06/16/2011 at 7:36 PM #

Spurrier Style? Please elaborate…I think Spurrier refused to reinstate the “Son of the Pimp from Durham”?

When you make stupid comments, I WILL call you out! Now if you’re referring to someone else, please show the major infractions???

  14. Lunatic Fringe 06/16/2011 at 7:44 PM #

highstick – I think he is speaking to Garcia who has been re-instated for the 5th time.

Wondering if any of the tags are dealer tags since they can be used on different vechicles? Maybe that is why UNC-CHeat didn’t release copies of the actual tickets. Maybe that is why they released the info the way they did? How else can you explain a tag number appearing on so many different vechicles unless they were using dealer tags. Just wondering?

  16. GAWolf 06/16/2011 at 8:49 PM #

Can someone tell me where the VIN number is plastered on the outside of my vehicle? is it written in that dame pen they use to check if my 20s are legit? Or maybe in one of those magic pens my parents bought to shut me up on long road trips,..the orange ones with games like baseball and football and word games.

  17. 61Packer 06/16/2011 at 8:52 PM #

I think people are missing the point here. Maybe these guys accumulated all these parking tickets simply because they can’t read.

  18. GAWolf 06/16/2011 at 8:53 PM #

The signs…i see what you did there….

  19. coppertop 06/16/2011 at 9:02 PM #

    GA Wolf,
VIN Numbers are usually on the drivers side winshield where the dash meets the hood and the support between the winshield and the drivers door. Or put another way, the bottom left corner as you are in the driver’s seat.
It is mounted to the frame in various other places, but this is where the vin is most visable.

  20. tuckerdorm1983 06/16/2011 at 9:02 PM #

choppack1 I think mr little caught a pass from yates and ran it in the right corner of the endzone near the RBC center. I am almost certain.

  21. maxdog59 06/16/2011 at 9:09 PM #

license plates that are dealer tags can be changed at any time just take out of the trunk switch it out to try and fool the cops what morons

  22. Pacobee 06/16/2011 at 9:11 PM #

VIN numbers can be found a number of places…for a parking attendant, there is a metal band about 3″ long that is usually located on the dash, in front of the driver, close to the glass. It can be found on the engine and usually on a sticker inside the front door as well.

    Can’t wait for Friday!

I am in law enforcement and have a few thoughts…Vehicles are issued one permanent VIN (Vehicle identification number) by the manufacturer at the factory. It never changes unless the vehicle is sold as salvage and parts are resold–not likely applicable here. A vehicle can only have one set of tags issued to it at one time.

The car may not have been owned by the Little family during the issuing of all the parking tickets. It may have been bought and sold several times in a short period of time. This would cause me to speculate that a vehicle dealership may be involved as they have the abilty buy and sell cars quickly and to issue tags quickly on site .

Another possibilty is that tags are moved from one vehicle to another–this is a criminal offense refered to as “improper registration”. Many people do this when the tags on one vehicle are expired so they remove a valid tag off another car they own and put it on the car they wish to operate.

It is hard to be sure with out further investigation, but my instincts tell me something does not add up.

  24. choppack1 06/16/2011 at 9:18 PM #

He kicked the ball in the stands in the bowl game. He taunted Jarvis Byrd after blowing out the knee. Of that, I am certain.

  25. Hungwolf 06/16/2011 at 9:22 PM #

Wonder what the ticket total would be for all the players and the bball players and wonder if anyone in the media will be savy enough to do their investigative jobs and ask. I did notice WRAL now displaying the term “investigation” in their reporting now.
