18 Former Wolfpackers Make NFL Rosters

We criticize the whole mechanism over there a lot, but thanks goes out to GoPack for sharing this with us.

We expected Marcus Hudson to make the 49ers squad because of his versatility…but Oliver Hoyte’s addition to the Cowboys is wonderful!

I work with a huge Cowboys fan and he has kept me up-to-date on all of the info that has come out on Hoyte. Ollie-Pop has evidently turned heads with his special teams play.

It’s interesting to note that Kai Parham from UVa played in a 3-4 defense in college and was cut by Dallas several weeks ago. Hoyte has no experience playing in a 3-4; was far less heralded than Parham; yet has a full-time job. Congrats to Ollie…you done good!

And Alvis WHitted is to start for the Raiders. Lots of NCSU receivers and defensive guys in the NFL. RBs — hopefully — next – but not going early I hope.

You have to wonder why with all of these talented players why we can’t compete for an ACC title once in awhile.

SFN: Not arguing…but, you are looking at the talent in a vacuum. How many NFL players have all of the other schools had? FSU? Miami? VPI? UVA? Only then can such a statement be made with a little more validation. As a point of reference, UNC currently has 24-26 players in the NFL.

Torry Holt, Rivers, etc. never played on the same squads, so the talent has been spread out, over several years.
Hopefully, this crop of young Wolfpack players in the NFL, will get noticed by recruits, and should help us in the long run.
Now only if we could get consistency from the QB position, we’d be in great shape.

Nothing helps recruiting like coming to a NCSU home game and having an NFL star (who went to state) come up and talk to you about palying for the Pack. Imagine BB players at UNC getting approached by MJ and others. It has an effect on these kids.

As Gene said — our good players have been spread out. Eventually, we’ll pull a great group together in the same year class and have the breakout season needed to compete.

The vast majority of those guys have come over the past 7 seasons! And we have not sniffed at a title or runner-up in the ACC during that time. It is time to quit making excuses and ask for some accountability. Unless 7-5 records and minor bowls make you feel good about our program!

I like to listen to Coach Logan on 620 the Bull from 1 to 3 PM (even though he coached at ECU) He is now coaching for NFL Europe as well as evaluating players for the NFL teams AND he makes a lot of sense.

One of the things he says is that 7-5 is nothing to look down on. That’s what most coaches can do. You don’t settle for that but its respectable.

I feel like we are going in the right direction. I don’t want to keep switching coaches, losing recruits, and having to “rebuild” every 6 to 8 years.

You give a coach some time and he will build the program. Examples are Beamer at VT. Good teams, assistants who are devoted to the school and fan base,. They went to some minor bowls and lately they are seeing a lot more success.

Right now we are sort of like Kansas State. Like us they are in the shadows of some great teams — Oklahoma, Nebraska, Colorado. But the coach has been there for a long time and has got them compettive and to the Sugar Bowl (and some other major bowls). I feel confident that in a year or two we will have our up year(s). But this year, we’ve got to work hard and improve each week.

All teams have up and down years. Some up more than down. Patience is what we need now.

But like there is no “I” in team — there is also no “realistic” in fans.

KSU has a new coach this year, a former UVA assistant. They built their record on a tawdry list of no names and were exposed as frauds for the most part in bowl games. Probably not a good example for us to model.

My point is it is time for CA to show his worth. He may prove to be what we all desire but I think he has had plenty of time to turn it around and he can not complain about facilities or commitment. At some point, 7-5 and fourth place is not enough. We can do better if we are willing to demand better! If not then hello mediocrity.

Bill Snyder was the coach at KSU and he was famous for taking tons of juco’s and scheduling the sisters of the poor. But he did inherit a program that had never won anything prior to his arrival. But not a sterling example of what we need or should follow.

Great start for PR. It was a “Big Ben” type effort, with enough presence of a down field threat to keep the teams of Raiders out of box as SanDiego rushed 39 times as a team. Also news reported that Favre and GB have a new weapon at their disposal- Koren! Packers fans will embrace him so long as he holds onto the ball, makes safe choices off the field, and oh yeah, leaps into the stands once in awhile.
