NC State received verbal commitments from Chapel Hill’s Rob Crisp and Pete Singer tonight.
Crisp is a 6′8”, 280 lb OT from Chapel Hill High School who is ranked as the state of North Carolina’s top prospect and one of the top 100 players in the country. His offer list was larger than 30 different schools and his ranking with offers from almost everyone, including UNC-CH, Michigan, Georgia, Clemson, Maryland and South Carolina.
Crisp is an NC State fan who evidently comes from a very good family structure. He will be a fantastic addition to Coach O’Brien’s growing stable of stud offensive line recruits over the last two seasons.
SFN was told two weeks ago that the Wolfpack staff felt good about Crisp…and, that it wouldn’t be beyond the realm of possibility to land commitments from ‘two or three’ other Top 200 recruits before the summer camp season. Evidently the staff would like to kick off the recruiting season with with highly touted core of a class on which to build. State is expected to have approximately 20 scholarships to give this season.

great news! What a way to start the ball rolling!

A spot of rain at last during this parched season.
April 7th, 2009 at 9:21 pm
Hopefully it will serve as a draw for other top players to team with TOB.

Chicka Chicka Yeah!!

Any chance the Crisp kid can give is 8 to 10 minutes per game in the low post?
April 7th, 2009 at 10:02 pm
That’s either sad or funny….I can’t decide which.

Everyday it’s becoming more obvious that the football program is on the rise and the basketball program is… well… going nowhere. We may like to think that athletes are ‘dumb’ (which they definitely are NOT – maybe a little lazy when it comes to doing something they aren’t comfortable with…), but they know this as well.
Damn, i wish it were the other way around, but at least something is coming up besides my car insurance.
TOB out-recruiting Davis??? Go get ‘em Tom!

Oh Thank You Jesus, This is absolutely fantastic news and completely counteracts UNC winning a national title. This has completely changed my mood from being absolutely down in the dumps to having something downright positive to look forward to.
Great Job TOB.

Reveal.
April 7th, 2009 at 10:52 pm
maybe we should just hold out, get a medium/short term replacement and start grooming TOB to be the AD when he is done with football….

Maybe we could do without Fowler at NCSU. What you need to know about David Horning is this: Horning was instumental in bringing Gabe to CF to be honored a couple of years ago. Some of you may remember Gabe was done with NCSU until Horning worked it out. David played football here, coached here and has been in athletics administration here. I’ve know him since shortly after his playing days. David Horning is a good man and obviously is more than competent. The BOT likes to promote within and there is no question that DH loves and cares about NCSU. Anybody know of any negatives?
`
“During his tenure, Horning has participated in the design and or the construction of the RBC Center, the Murphy Football Center, Vaughn Towers, Doak Baseball Complex, JW Isenhour Tennis Complex, Weisiger Brown and Dail Basketball Practice Facility, North End Zone, Derr Track, Soccer and Softball Stadiums, and the renovations of Carter Finley Stadium, Reynolds Coliseum, and Case Athletic Center.”

It’s awesome to have a coach who knows what he’s doing. We could be a Top 10 team in 2010 and beyond.
Enjoy this Prague Spring for as long as it lasts!

Amazing what two people can do for a program. Between TOB and Russell, this kid has a LOT to be excited about.
A 4-star OL? On OL who could/should be player of the year in the state? That’s almost like an OL winning the Heisman… it’s just not a sexy enough position to overcome the gaudy stats that some QB or RB is certain to put up.
Welcome to the Pack, fellas…
April 8th, 2009 at 6:16 am
Crisp is probably the #2 or #3 OL in the country this year. He was the second name on Michigan’s recruiting board. He, literally, could have gone anywhere.
April 8th, 2009 at 6:33 am
basketball program…what basketball program?
April 8th, 2009 at 6:51 am
Noah, do you know how things are going with Sam Jones? The kid from Fuquay? I would sure think he and Crisp hitting the offensive line about the same time as Glennon starts playing with Barnes behind him would be very, very special.
Can’t wait to hear the pansy blue spin on this after TOB cleaned their clock 2 years ago in NC. Of course, they are going to win a NC with their recruiting class from last year. If they all get in. AND if they all stay in. AND if (fill in the excuse blank)…
April 8th, 2009 at 6:57 am
Hopefully this will lead to more in-state names. We are going to get a lot of hype leading up to next fall. Maybe as much as hype as Butch/UNC. I can’t wait to beat them in CF again next year.
April 8th, 2009 at 7:02 am
Wow…This is great news!
Fellow wolfpackers down on the overall state of the program, I’d compartmentalize on this one. Enjoy the moment. Enjoy spring football, enjoy fall football. After all, it’s one of the only 2 sports that really matter.
April 8th, 2009 at 7:18 am
TOB to the rescue. Looks as if he’s building the program for the long haul. Congratulations!
April 8th, 2009 at 8:11 am
TOB said that in-state recruiting was going well this year and that it would be a focus.
Crisp is a great get for the program, now they have to make sure that they keep him in the fold until Signing Day. Football recruiting never stops and now NCSU will be the sharp focus of negative recruiting.
Not that Chief would ever stoop that low, mind you.
April 8th, 2009 at 8:19 am
He’s enrolled and practicing. I haven’t heard anything bad about him.
If we hit the FFwd button, here’s what I’m seeing on offense in a couple of years:
QB – Wilson/Glennon
RB – Barnes/James Washington
FB – Colby Jackson
TE – Mario Carter/George Bryan
LT – R. Crisp
LG – Andrew Wallace (pure guess)
C – Camden Wentz
RG – Zach Allen
RT – RJ Mattes
That’s a NASTY backfield and a NASTY off. line. The only thing that I see us missing is a marquee WR. I think the guys like Jay Smith and Stephen Howard and the guys we signed last year are good #2-#5 receivers. But we need ONE guy that’s a go-to receiver. He doesn’t have to be Torry Holt, but we need that one guy that you look to on third-and-12 or that guy that constantly draws a double-team…the guy that when they give the starting lineups on TV always gets mentioned first.
You put that guy in THAT starting lineup and you have a top-10 offense.

Also, for those that don’t regularly follow recruiting, this year’s in-state class is AWESOME.
Xavier Nixon was last year’s #1 player in-state. I asked someone where he would rank in this year’s class and they said he’d probably be third or fourth. This year’s group is deep and very, very good.
Alabama, Michigan and Florida have already made overtures to a number of players.
