Why are NC State fans paranoid?
Gee…I wonder!?
Great catch by the guys at 850TheBuzz! Will wonders ever cease?
Ken Tysiac has more on ‘Bannergate 09′ linked here.
There was company for N.C. State in its misery. Louisville’s 1980 title is listed, but its 1986 championship is not. UCLA won 11 titles, but only six are listed.

In other ’1974 news’ comes this great piece about David Thompson from Scott Fowler.
But most of all, I think of Thompson in midair.
Thompson’s nickname was “Skywalker.” He often crossed his legs while soaring, so in some photographs it looked like he was walking on air. He once dunked a ball so fiercely as a pro that he shattered the backboard and missed the rest of the game because of all the glass lodged in his hair.
Because Thompson is generally considered the best basketball player in ACC history, the mythology surrounding him has flourished like kudzu. To separate myth from fact, I spent an hour with Thompson this week — after reading his autobiography and talking with a few other folks about him.
Before we start sorting, however, listen to one quote from Larry Brown, the current Charlotte Bobcats coach. Brown has seen most every basketball player worth seeing over the past 40 years and coached many of them, including Thompson for several of his best years as a pro.
“David Thompson,” Brown said, “was Michael Jordan before there was a Michael Jordan.”

Someone please tell me of a big time coach other than Roy Williams that has come to the ACC. Even Roy hadn’t won a championship and he was the 3rd guy after Dean.
Does anyone else think it is disgusting at a time when universities are laying off longtime employees, increasing tuition that a coach can get this kind of contract? I don’t doubt Calipari is worth the money but how do you explain it to taxpayers, students, faculty and staff that one guy is worth the price just to win basketball games?
Oh well, NC State hired, and stood by, a BB coach while he didn’t even bother to mention about those two National Championships, or any other championships for that matter, for an entire decade of my lifetime, so who gives a rat’s ass now?
Well said Larry Brown.
Why should we feel slighted? They also left off the one from the 20′s the holes won.

And crime of all crimes… unc@ch’s 1924 championship isn’t shown either. EVERYONE knows they have five, not four…
The salary going to Calipari has nothing to do with the university budget. Totally separate financial animals.
I think there is more incompetence and less conspiracy here than meets the eye.
^ Yeah. I’m thinking a ratio of 100% – 0%.
“Thompson would end up scoring 36 points in the 23-point win — when Thompson found himself alone on a breakaway.”

My memory is fading for sure but as I remember it, Thompson stole the ball of got a pass on a steal. A defender was down court giving ground as Thompson pushed the ball up the left side of the court. DT did a crossover move to his right and blew by the defender. DT started elevating at what seemed like the top of the key coming down the right side of the lane.

When he tomahawked it home, I almost shit myself and the roof nearly blew off of Reynolds.
Nice avatar Alpha! LOL
Hope ya’ll are ready for the bridal thing this weekend.
^ Well lucky me, I get to play golf with the fellows all afternoon and then come home to pitchers of mojitos and a bunch of good friends.

Both champions should be listed for both NCSU and Louisville. However, if I had to choose which year to go on the banner, I would definitely pick 1974. That was a legendary team with great individual players that dominated for 2 years and ended UCLA’s streak of championships. I can’t believe the phantom UNX champioship in the 1920′s was not listed:)
Never attribute to malice those things easily explained by incompetence.
Napoleon.
Kentucky has a few Helms Foundation titles. They don’t list those among the 7 national titles they won.
No problem redfred2! I was MOST certainly joking about their mythical championship.
Would a 20 ft poster of Skywalker doing exactly what Greywolf describes (at least the end) not be just what we need to see walking into the RBC Center?

Well, since dunking wasn’t allowed during Thompson’s college career, it’s too bad that tomahawking didn’t count.
^ Buy it DID! He was awarded a technical foul and received a standing ovation!
