As long as they manage with an eye on results they are going to continue kicking our butts across the board. You certainly have to tip your hat to them.
Somebody better tell Dick that you need facilities to win Championships, but with a new coach, it’ll take at least 4-5 years.

Hate unc if you will, I know I DO, but they aren’t going to sit back in CH and let anyone in their own neighborhood walk off and leave them in dust.
Now at NCSU on the other hand, the AD will be more than glad to sit in on, or even chair, the next Lacrosse committee. But actually winning the games, who cares?
Six Pack is right, obviously all it takes to win is facilities. The rest magically falls into place if you just have good facilities. Good thing UNC doesn’t know how to have winning programs like Lee Fouler.
UNC…. they make us look bad in so many ways…sigh. Hate to admit it, but you have to envy them. They at least have leadership that demands results. What’s wrong with our administration? Can’t they see we stink in nearly all things athletic?
You absolutely have to give UNC credit for not settling and demanding that their coaches / teams compete for championships.

How many State coaches just said “Whew, I’m glad I don’t work there.”?

Is the administration at NC State so concerned about their academic reputation (relative to the neighbors) that they will not pursue athletics in a serious way b/c it MAY imply that we aren’t serious about academics?
Put another way, is UNC so confident in their academic standing that they never fear public reprisals for overtly focusing on academic success?
I suppose that the answer could be “no” on both counts, implying that we’re just run by a bunch of nerds that devalue the marketing power of athletics. I see the point (probably devalue marketing myself) but it doesn’t explain our volleyball program, Tarantini or the fact that our APR numbers are nothing to write home about.
For God’s sake people, shit or get off the pot. Either wear them out on the court or wear them out in the classroom… sucking at both is unconcionable.

I guess the news is that he was fired, not much we as State fans can take away from it because the guy was mediocre-looking for 8 YEARS. Not like they got rid of him after 3 years or something.
I remember back when you could go to game fully expecting to win, and yet, still be considered a good NC State fan. Man, those were the days.
But I’m glad we have this chancellor now. He’s even smart enough to reward his favorite administrators for knowing exactly what’s best for us lowly fans.

Man, if tassel-loafers Dickie can stiffen up and fire a coach, what is a good old boy like Lee supposed to do when coaches don’t deliver. I guess he will put on his cowboy hat and boots.
I guess thier facilities were up to par, hence the rationale to fire the coach.
I suspect Lee will hold a presser when he finally fires a coach and he will appear all business like and how coaches must win at NC State. However, it will be pathetic when he does the deed and an act to save his job, not because he has shown he was a leader that demanded excellence of himself, staff, coaches, and teams.
That puts into words the difference between athletic administrations that I have struggled to describe.

Not that I am a lacrosse fan having only been to one game in my life, but UNC has (had?) a history of being a lacrosse powerhouse for whatever that’s worth. I remember hearing about their program when i was at State in the ’70′s when I couldn’t ID a lacrosse stick. A quick search shows they have played in 5 NCAA championships and won 4 titles since NCAA lacrosse started in ’71. But they haven’t played in the title game since ’93. So it seems they are committed to getting back.
Any chance in hell one of our coaches – and a alumnus – would be fired with a winning record over the last 8 years? Not bloody likely.

While you will get no argument from me on how inept Lee Fowler is, Lacrosse isn’t exactly a major sport by Divison I standards.
There are only 56 division 1 teams, and only eight BCS schools participate in it (UNC, Duke, UVa, Maryland, Penn State, Syracuse, Ohio State, and Notre Dame). Seven of those eight made the NCAA tournament, which has a field of 16.
I don’t have the inclination to look it up, but judging by the size of the 56 schools that do participate, I’d bet that only a small number of them field the full completement of 12.6 scholarships that are allowed (that’s a big number…bigger than baseball, what the hell?!?!).
I’d bet that UNC does, however (actually, I’d bet that all of the 8 BCS schools do so). Given that assumption, its fair to say that these schools already have a large advantage in recruiting, and that making the tournament is not really a sufficient measure of progress.
Dammit…did I really just defend UNC in something? Someone please come kill me.
Is there any way someone can teach a crash course on Lacrosse for Lee
that way Lee= knows Lacrosse.

ummm, maybe not by DIV I standards… but they sure did sell out Gillette Stadium(yes the one that the Patriots play in) for the national title game. Its popular enough to bring in a hell of a lot of money for schools who participate and compete.
Also with the 10 men on the field running like they do in Lacrosse I personally can see a need for the, “12.6 scholarships that are allowed, that’s a big number…bigger than baseball, what the hell?!?!” that they are allotted.
No offense- and I know that baseball may be king in the South… but their are other parts to this country and people that do not care for the sport.
^What I was getting at with the scholarships is that it takes more players to successfully field a lacrosse team than it does a baseball team.

I meant no disrespect to lacrosse. I had several cousins in Virginia who played the sport, and saw a number of matches that they played. It is quite entertaining.
Also – I was dead wrong about the Division I thing – any school competing at the Division I level is giving the full scholarship allotment. I’d edit mt comment if I could figure out how.
I was surprised at the number of scholarships relative to the sports popularity, though. Baseball is played by all but 2 or 3 of the BCS schools, and is a popular youth sport nationally. There are over 250 schools who play Division I baseball.
But I don’t want to derail this entry any more than I have…Baddour made a decision that we would never expect out of Fowler.
Isn’t lacrosse more of a regional sport? It’s huge in the NE and northern midwest, I think…but I’ve never heard of it being played in the south or in the western states.
Am I wrong?
The point of this story, IMO, is not whether Lacrosse is or isn’t a significant sport…the significance is that as noted above, this is a sport played by very few huge schools and lots of tiny ones, and with the presumed financial and other advantages the big schools like UNC has, they made the decision that it was unacceptable to use as your measuring stick for the program “making postseason play” (particularly in a sport where only 56 teams field a team and 16 of them make the NCAAs…) I applaud UNC’s decision, and I wish our athletics administration displayed a similar commitment to excellence…

Bottom line: They WANT it more than we do. They just fired their Lacrosse coach, their Lacrosse coach! Step up to the plate State Admin, make some waves because what we have in one specific area (AD) isn’t working.
