Many thanks to Rocky Top Talk for their kind words:
Continuity? Check. Their archives go back to December, 2004, which is the equivalent of being older than Adam in the college football blogosphere.
Community? Uh-huh. Comments on front page posts regularly reach into the mutiple scores. Any blogger who’s been around for awhile knows how much time and effort it takes to foster that kind of interaction.
Coolness? Affirmative. I just wasted fifteen minutes playing around with their archive navigation system. The whole “this is how many words I wrote and this is how long it should take you to read it” thing is nifty and could come in handy when trying to decide whether to dive deeper on a front page story, but I have to admit that I could do without the pressure of knowing precisely how many seconds it should take me to read 220 words. Hey, I wonder what my forty time is?
Content? Yep, and with humor.
This honor recognizes not only our work, but also the quality and quantity of the SFN community. That’s well deserved – we couldn’t do this without you, from the most rabid commenter to the most steadfast lurker.
It says alot about you and all of Wolfpack nation that we could earn this kind of recognition, despite 20 years of nearly constant futility on the field. If we weren’t providing a top-notch product, who on earth (besides us die hards) would even notice an NC State blog? It’s not like NC State has done anything nationally relevant during most bloggers’ lifetime, or at least conscious memory. Again, quoting Rocky Top Talk:
Competent team? Uh, no, and that’s what makes StateFans Nation’s consistent quality all the more laudable.
This recognition comes from a wide range of national and sectional blogs, mostly outside of our geographical area. Do check out Every Day Should Be Saturday, an excellent national college football blog (and lead sponsor of the sports blog awards). SFN was the ACC runner-up in 2006, and we are honored to have climbed to the summit in 2007.
It has been quite a ride for SFN in recent months. As you probably recall, SFN was just profiled in the NC State alumni magazine as well. We thank you for your readership, contributions to the site, and for clicking on those ads so we can pay the bills. Whatever the future brings for Wolfpack athletics, we look forward to chronicling the good, the bad, and the ugly for years to come.

Congratulations, Statefans Nation.
This is an award well deserved. You folks have put a lot of time and effort into your blog, and I don’t at all mind saying that you are the premiere NC State focused blog on the Internet.
Congratulations too should go to you other 49 lunatics out in the fringes. You guys may be sitting in your Mom’s basement in your underwear typing ignorant screeds according to certain folks in the corner office of the Athletic Department, but the truth of the matter is that you are very well informed, incredibly loyal and passionate NC State fans. If our teams played with the skill and passion that you folks do here in the comments sections, we would have to put a new beam up in the RBC to hold all the new banners.
And finally, thanks SFN for letting me be a small part of your success. I may only be the plumber here (I unclog the pipes from time to time) but it’s been a great deal of fun to be part of a very well done online publication.
ps – I told you that new logo was what would put you over the top.

Although people in power don’t like to have criticism, SFN has been a positive force for change. I hope SFN can continue to push NC State to improve both in athletics and academics.

I think there should be a recount. There is no way a State blog can compete with Carolina and Duke!
March 7th, 2008 at 11:30 am
Thank’s to this website I am much less productive throughout the day…thanks again StateFansNation!
March 7th, 2008 at 11:34 am
mom’s not home during the day RAWFS, so why bother with underwear.
All kidding aside- congrats SFN, its nice to have a place to have and read generally intelligent discussions on various and sundry wolfpack athletics issues. Imagine the community if we actually had something positive to talk about.
March 7th, 2008 at 11:36 am
Congrats!
“Whatever the future brings for Wolfpack athletics, we look forward to chronicling the good, the bad, and the ugly for years to come.”
Too bad there hasn’t been much good for you to chronicle, at least in sports.

^^^^Thank’s to this website I am much less productive throughout the day…thanks again StateFansNation!
AG, I couldn’t have said it better myself!! Thanks alot, SFN.
March 7th, 2008 at 11:49 am
Congrats, SFN! You’d have won it all sooner if you had better facilities!
March 7th, 2008 at 11:52 am
Here’s an attaboy and a hearty pat on the back. Great job. Keep on representin’. And here’s hoping the Pack’s future will be better so you will have brighter things to pontificate about.
March 7th, 2008 at 11:59 am
Well deserved.
Congrats and GOOD JOB sfn guys (and gals)
Like PackMan said: “I think there should be a recount. There is no way a State blog can compete with Carolina and Duke (blogs)!” … funny
Notice that you didn’t win until you got that shiny new header … Like our AD says, it’s all about improving “facilities”
JUST KIDDING!!!
ohh, and *ad clicked!*
congrats again

Congrats SFN, and as y’all said, to all the commentators here who always add to my the enjoyment & education. Its hard to believe every team doesn’t have something like this, and they don’t (Ole Miss is lucky to get 6 regular commentators).
I do believe you fellas are setting the standard!
March 7th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
were #1 guess no one thought we would say that around here
March 7th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
Can we hang a 2007 Best ACC Blog banner next to the old spice classic banner – it would mean more. Better yet, just staple it over the OSC banner.
March 7th, 2008 at 12:38 pm
it will probably be more of the “bad and ugly” that youll be covering for some time as long as fowler is still here.
speaking of, i wonder what he thinks of the lunatic fringe winning more awards than his athletic teams?
March 7th, 2008 at 12:39 pm
let’s hang the banner right beside the one for Old Spice Classic Champions 2007
March 7th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
good lord sorry wolftown you beat me to the punch
March 7th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
Great minds and all that…
March 7th, 2008 at 1:01 pm
Congrats, SFN! You’d have won it all sooner if you had better facilities!
Interesting you mention that, considering SFN moved to new servers during football season!
March 7th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
I thought no one paid attention to the lunatic fringe – or to those durned interweb chat rooms.
March 7th, 2008 at 1:41 pm
Just the jokes in these comments explain/exhibit why our community is so well recognized. This truly is the “Post-Graduate Level” of NC State conversation on the internet.
March 7th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
Absolutely well deserved – the quality analysis and writing keeps me coming back daily. You’ve continued to build your following and quality in a time of sports recession – a challenge similiar to the one the rest of us will be facing for the foreseeable future. Let’s hope we are as successful as SFN has been.
March 7th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
Congratulations SFN! Very deserving. Too bad the Wolpfack won’t get any Sears Cup points for your efforts. We sure as shit need some.
March 7th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
Statefans – Congrats – this is THE best place to go to discuss wolfpack sports. More informed debate – and great analysis. I’d also like to thank you guys for linking some of the other state-related blogs – like RAWFS and Section 6.
Thank heavens for the internet. Otherwise, I’d know a lot about UNC-Ch’s recruiting classes, injuries, etc and nothing about ours!
March 7th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
Congratulations, SFN!
Off topic, I wish some one here can give me some advice (Read the blog for years, knowing we have really smart people here).
I have a three year old dog who was trained to “hate” baby blues. If he meets a person dressed in baby blues, he will bark until the person is gone. For any no-human baby blue object, he will tear it to pieces. I have a Carolina neighbor (few houses ways from me) who always has a baby blue flag in his front yard – which makes my dog really “excited”. I walk my dog around 9pm to 10pm. Whenever we pass that house; he tries to run way and attack the blue flag. There were few time I let him go. You can guess what was next. Why I love the hatred, but I am afraid of the neighbor will find out and I will be in trouble. Any legal consequences if I do not stop my dog doing this?
Do not ask me why the dog being trained. I appreciate your inputs.

I think it shows a lot about the evolution of the average, “cheap seats” fanbase. We now have a voice…although it would help if we had the money, too, I reckon.
And to think, when I got to State in 1997 I’d never used email. Now I’m a full-fledged, founding member of the lunatic fringe.
