Thank God. Although two months is a lot of time for aforementioned Big Guy to smite us some more.

Anybody know who this Clayton Beard guy is? Walk-on by invite, or was therea try out.

Harris’ kid looks like a chip of the old block. Real wide shoulders and could actually be a good end of first half type of guy.

Anyway’s it’s good to look ahead. The football team may be fast approaching Women’s volleyball as the crappiest ACC sport NC State can produce. May check into Soccer action as a diversion until B Ball starts.

If you think our football team has some shit luck, our women’s basketball team has them beat.

Its a scholoarship pre-requisite to destroy at least one knee during the course of a player’s career.

And the hits just keep ooooonnnnn comin’ …

Johnny Thomas … out for the year.

Does being a State fan ever make you feel like George Costanza …

GEORGE: What if the pilot gets picked up and it becomes a series?

DANA: That’d be wonderful George, you’ll be rich and successful.

GEORGE: Yeah, that’s exactly what I’m worried about. God would never let me be successful. He’d kill me first. He’d never let me be happy.

DANA: I thought you didn’t believe in God?

GEORGE: I do for the bad things.

DANA: Do you hear what you’re saying? God isn’t out to get you George. What… What is that on your lip?

    GEORGE: What?

    DANA: It’s like a discoloration. It’s white.

GEORGE: (gets up and picks a mirror) Yes. Yes, it’s white. Why it’s white.

DANA: You’d better get that checked out.

GEORGE: Better get that checked out?

    DANA: I would.

GEORGE: What kind of a therapist are you? I’m telling I’m scared that something terrible is gonna happen to me, right away you start looking for tumors?

DANA: I’m trying to help you.

GEORGE: What are you like a sadist? No matter how bad somebody feels, you can make ’em feel worse. I bet you’re rooting for a tumor. (pointing to her)

DANA: I think you’d better go.

GEORGE: Oh I’m going baby! I’m going! (he leaves)

Thomas didn’t have an ACL tear, he had a weird condition with the blood flow to his knee. The injury was probably inevitable.

I don’t believe Thomas was going to be a major contributor this year. He’ll be back next year and he won’t waste a year seeing duty only in mop-up action.

In football, we were going to be bad even at full-strength. At the very least, we’ll get three of our best players back for an extra year.

noah, I hope you’re right about Thomas and the upcoming season. I was really wanting to see, FINALLY, a Wolfpack BB team that is absolutely loaded with talent and depth everywhere. I think we may still see that, though I hate to hear about about any injury to anyone. 6’5″ Marcus Johnson is still very much a mystery to me. I’m definitely just guessing, but maybe he is the type of player that can be plugged in and contribute at three different positions, without suffering on the defensive end.

As far as football and what I said earlier goes, uh, duh, …

I’m not saying that the entire team is loaded with talent and depth…I’m saying that Thomas plays a position that has depth and talent.

Thomas is a two or a three…we’ve already got Fells, Grant, Horner, Costner, Johnson and Ferguson there.

Where exactly was Thomas going to find minutes?

Freshmen can, and do, contribute substantially elsewhere at other programs all over the country. A GOOD coach can work them in when and where they are needed and where the young players will benefit the most, which is also the sensible thing to do for the future. I know that’s hard for some to accept, especially after ten years of almost the exact opposite philosophy.

This injury may all be null and void and actually of benefit in the long run, but this upcoming season is a year with promise, and if were a second year coach trying to build a program back up to national prominence, I’d want all the weapons I could get my hands on.

Yeah, I think we may actually see a freshman or two find just a little bit of playing time this year.

But Thomas wasn’t going to be that guy, healthy or not.

The ultimate record of this squad wasn’t affected by Thomas’ injury.

Let’s keep this BB thread going. Here are some physical stat comparisons between this year and last from the gopack roster numbers.

    Fells has gained 11 lbs (6’5″ 205)
Grant has gained an inch and 4 lbs (6’8″ 208)
Horner has gained an inch and 20 lbs (6’8″ 220)
Costner has gained an inch and 8 lbs (6’9″ 238)
McCauley has gained an inch and 3 lbs (6’10” 238)

If this is true (some may have been standing on their tippy toes!) we are a very big team this year – especially when you include JJ at 6-8 and 242 lbs! I can’t wait to crush Hansblow and pals!
