Rivers Profile Continues to Elevate

Meat Loaf

Since we were talking about some alums in this entry, I thought that I would bring the two together with an interesting experience on Monday. In the span of a couple of hours I had TWO national Philip Rivers sightings.

First, was a sleek Nike commercial that featured LaDanian Tomlinson but included Rivers. The Chargers sharp new uniforms were an attractive contrast against the black of night that served as the background of the commercial. As the Chargers came to the line of scrimmage to take the snap, the camera started at Rivers and then panned to LT in the background. Very cool that Nike chose to include Rivers as a supplement to the spot when they could have gone exclusively with LT.

A little later I was watching “Private Sessions” from A&E on my DVR. The show features an interview and concert footage of different musical artists each week. This week the show featured an interview with Meat Loaf. I don’t care what you think – I love Meat Loaf. And…truth be told…I’m not alone. But, my respect of Mr. Loaf’s career is not the topic here. What was really cool was that the first piece of concert footage shown on the show featured Meat Loaf performing in a #17 San Diego Chargers jersey. So, in a roundabout way, if you try talking shit about Meat Loaf then you are indirectly criticizing Philip Rivers.

You don’t want that do you?

I just hope #17 can find his own Paradise By the Dash Board Light. I know that Philip will work like a Bat out of Hell to get it done. The Chargers were the West Division Champs and had the best record in football, but didnt win the Super Bowl – now, 2 Out of 3 Aint Bad, but I know PR wants that Super Bowl win.

First: Meat Loaf Rocks! Never had a bad night with a lady when the Loaf was playing – talking 1988-1992 and always somewhere between Hillsborourgh and Avent Ferry and Gorman.

Second: Phillip Rivers could be huge. HUGE! I’m talking Joe Montana huge. Dan Marino huge.

    Trout,

‘For crying out loud’ , I ‘couldn’t have said it better’! It’s like “you took the words right out of my mouth’

The impending season is getting me ‘all revved up with no place to go’ and ‘I just won’t quit’ thinking about it!! I don’t think that our change from CTC to TOB has taken us ‘out of the trying pan and into the fire’, but we will have to wait and see.

I saw the same show, and as a fan of Meatloaf and bad puns, I salute this article and Trout.

I must say that the picture scares the living hell out of me, though.

Rivers will be a very marketible commodity. He and LT have the chance to be a really special duo for next 2-3 years, at least. Remember the window where John Elway had a healthy, in his prime Terrell Davis? The parallel isn’t exact, but the overall potential is there.

The Chargers’ playoff performance last year was very rocky, and was a horror picture show if you were a Chargers fan.

  17. lush 08/22/2007 at 12:19 PM #

    BJD, i like it.

LT is 10 times the back terrell davis is and Phillip has a lot of the same qualities as elway. Phillip will be a better quarterback numbers wise, yards, completion %, tds, but elway had something like 25 game winning td drives in his career, hopefully phillip can pull that off in the nfl the way he did at State.

    girlfriend,
I think the curse of marty was the playoff problem, that and the freakin patriots and tom brady refuse to lose. they did win 14 games last year, i think they will win 12 this year but make it to the super bowl. this is the best team norv turner will have ever had, and they are keeping basically the same offense and defense as before. the offense should be better, the defense might drop a little, but norv is a much better gameday coach than marty was. charger all the way!!!

I wondered how many people would get it.

^ Frankenfurters for you, GiaC. 😉

  20. tooyoungtoremember 08/22/2007 at 12:56 PM #

Loaf is OK, but SFN has entered the twilight zone.

  21. BJD95 08/22/2007 at 1:06 PM #

IMHO, LT is more like Elway (overwhelming physical talent, but has had to carry offensive load all by himself and thus no titles), whereas Rivers is more like TD (the long-lost complimentary offensive star).

For a very short period of time (see noah’s remarks about the typical shelf life of an NFL RB), Terrell Davis was as dominant as they come.

Funny how PR is getting this type of exposure while Eli is now down to throwing verbal stones at HIS ex-runningback to make the news. My, my how does that draft day look now?

  23. packpigskinfan23 08/22/2007 at 2:10 PM #

I would rather have Smashed Pumpkins then MeatLoaf anyday!

    but to each his own…

Seeing the lead picture and reading through the article trying to make a connection, I was certain “Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad” was going to be the kicker.
