This is fantastic. I’d be happier if it were moved to the NBA line. That shot is way too close. The ease of this shot has turned a full court game into that is too often played between the 3-pt lines.
What is better is that this is only going to help a Sidney Lowe coached team.
What’s needed now is an emphasis on eliminating hand-checking in order to further allow the offensive development of college players. That and the no-charge circle under the basket. Or as I call it “The Shane Battier Rule”.

Agree that it should help a coach like Lowe who puts a premium on running a offense through the post and looking for flex cuts inside the arc.
To play devils advocate, this puts more of a premium on getting recruits in by ’08-’09 that can punish teams when they collaspe on the post players. It makes the kick out of a double team that much more an effective weapon when the floor is spread out and double downs have to come from further away. I’m seeing Noel Johnson, a ’09 SG who can shoot well from anywhere, becoming a top priority for this staff.

I had thought the international line was ~22 feet. But after a quick search, it looks like it is 6.25 meters, which is 20’6.25″. So this will actually be a couple of inches longer than the international distance.

Looks like the NBA line is 22′ at its shortest point in the corner, so I guess that’s what I was thinking of.

We shall see if this is enough of a move. This was the first year that I really felt like outside shooting was more valuable than solid inside play. I also agree with the grabbing and hand checking comment above. When you make driving and cutting to the basket more difficult by allowing all of that crap, you encourage spot up jump shooting.

It’s 3 inches longer then int’l distance.

But what if it went back even further than that??? That would mean…the (((MAGIC FIVE CONSECUTIVE)))…the accomplishment of all NCSU accomplishments, the absolute holy grail of NCSU, could have possibly never existed at all!!! I get goose bumps and shudder all over to even think where we’d all be right now without those magical times.

One other change I would like to see is raising the rim to twelve feet to eliminate the easy dunk shots. It seems almost every player can dunk now and it takes away the thrill when it is too commonplace.
Height is too much of an advantage now so putting more premium on playmaking and shooting would even things a bit.

I don’t like it. The 3point line was fine where it was. I think a case can be made for the 12 foot basket. It’s not a new idea…been around quite a while, in fact. It was first proposed in the days of Russell and Chamberlain.

good rule change. except now — since the women’s arc (a line is where you shoot FTs from) is staying put — most every court will have two arcs, quite the eye sore watching a game. rbc might have to shrink it’s court logo to fit the new arc in…
also, the lane should’ve been widened as well.

Raise the rim and for about a decade, basketball would be totally unwatchable as a generation of players would suddenly be unable to shoot.
While we’re at it, why don’t we make a baseball without seams and push the fences back to 700 feet?

raising the rim would suck… sorry guys, but it would make the game almost impossible to watch and impossible for the common man(like myself) to play. you would have to be a freak to dunk it and athletic to accomplish any shot… that is one good thing about basketball, ANYONE can play. there are many diffrent levels of skill, talent, and IQ but ANYONE can play the game. raising the rim would kill that.

How about raising the rim, and being able to use your teammates to jump off their back — we’d need a couple of trampolines in designed spots, too. Circus Hoops! Raising Rim — bad, bad idea. Moving the 3 pt “arc” back — good idea. Along with calling all the hand-check fouls, and getting rid of the alternate possession rule.
I may get bombarded, but how ’bout some folks cutting CGW some slack. I think you’re giving him a harder time than some of the Tarhells or Dookies that infiltrate this site. I’m sure he’s good dude!
