The Tale Of Lee Fowler

Bravely bold Lee Fowler

Rode forth from NC State!

“I’ll find a top coach!” he cried.

Oh brave Lee Fowler!

He was not at all afraid

To be spurned in nasty ways.

Brave, brave, brave, brave Lee Fowler!

http://www.intriguing.com/mp/_pictures/grail/small/HolyGrail076.jpg

He’d allowed our program,

To be mashed into a pulp.

Fans that had their eyes gouged out,

And their spirits broken.

To have his fanbase split

And its egos burned away,

And the team all hacked and mangled…

Brave Lee Fowler!

Our heads smashed in

And our hearts cut out

And our history removed

And our bowels unplugged

And our nostrils raped

And our program blown off

And our…

Bravely ran away away.

Oh brave Lee Fowler!

Rejection reared its ugly head,

He bravely turned his tail and fled.

“Coach at State? Why, not at all, sir!”

Yes, brave Sir Fowler turned about

And gallantly he chickened out.

****Bravely**** taking to his feet,

He beat a very brave retreat.

I guess the three knights are Barnes, Calipari, and Lavin. Or maybe Montgomery, Wright, and Beulien. And pretty soon, that hot girl who coaches for Maryland.

Lee Fowler Blues (with sincere apologies to Cheech and Chong)

Basketball Jones, I got a NCSU Basketball Jones
Got a Basketball Jones, oh baby, oo-oo-ooo

Yes, I am the victim of a NCSU Basketball Jones……one day
my mama bought me a basketball
    And I loved that basketball
I took that basketball with me everywhere I went
That basketball was like a basketball to me

I even put that basketball underneath my pillow
Maybe that’s why I can’t sleep at night
I need help, ladies and gentlemens
I need someone to stand beside me
I need, I need someone who won’t reject me

(Basketball Jones, I got NCSU Basketball Jones)
(I got a NCSU Basketball Jones, oh baby, oo-oo-ooo)

    Sing it out
C’mon Coach Red Blazer, sing along with me
I want everybody in the whole stadium to stand up and sing with us
Oh yeah, sing it out like you’re proud
All right, everybody watchin’ coast-to-coast, sing along with us
    Wendell, sing along with us
    Bobby, sing along with us
State fans nation, don’t sing nothin’

You can’t stop me ’cause I got a NCSU Basketball Jones

Basketball Jones, I got a NCSU Basketball Jones,
I got a Basketball Jones, NCSU Basketball Jones)
    {many times to fade}

…I think it’s been 43 years since we marched down Hillsboro to the Legislature over the attempt to rename us UNC-R……this is almost as serious and some form of disruptive action may be needed to prod the powers that be……. :-)

Cardiff’s last sentence raises an interesting point. Maybe Lee should look at prospects from the women’s game. Most women’s teams play a faster-paced offense than State under Herb (SUH). Most play as good or better defense than SUH. Most hit better at the charity stripe than SUH. And, if the women’s NCAA this year is any indication, most simply play a more exciting brand of ball than SUH.

Several candidates jump out: Geno Auriemma (557-111 at Connecticut with 5 national titles); Leon Barmore (retired from La. Tech in 2002 with a 576-87 record, 20 NCAA appearances and one national title in 20 years — but is still only 62 this year); and, for a real shocker — Pat Summitt (882-172 in 31 years at Tennessee with 6 national titles); or, more realistically, Muffett McGraw (499-196 in 23 seasons, including the last 18 at Notre Dame, one national title and two Final Four trips).

Perhaps Lee should look at some of the coaches in this area. I am sure some would be VERY interested to try the challenge of the men’s game.

There’s always Rick Majerus. He would probably have a short tenure though.

Anyone else get the feeling that some large boosters over at UNC-CH are laughing their heads off after writing checks to keep coaches AWAY from NC State?

I just have a feeling that there’s more going on here that we’re not seeing. I’m not quite ready to sell Lee down the river yet…. Yet.

Please, let’s not talk anymore about women’s coaches. I am not saying that a women’s coach can’t make the move to the men’s game, but not a direct move to N.C. State. Fowler has us all feeling like red-headed stepchildren now, but we cannot have sunk that low. I have said since yesterday that Whittenburg is the correct choice now, mainly because he will have the fan base excited, and he can live on that for a few years until he shows us what he can do.

This has all just gotten to be totally ridiculous. It’s too much. I believe I’m taking my love for Pack Basketball down the a few notches on my list of cool things that take up most of my time. I’m going to focus on good tunes, fishing and turkey hunting for the next five days. I need a break from watching this meltdown. I suggest y’all do the same, and here’s some help:

    Dave Odom??? Phil Ford????????……

What the hell is going on here? This place is losing it just like Fowler. I give up on my earlier suggestion of a coach who could and definitely would make an immediate impact, but I can’t stomach any more of the talk about these, old, young, whatever guys who offer nothing more than a lateral move at their very best. Come on, you guys are being beaten down just like the rest of the public, accepting names like those as plausible.

If anyone on this blog cant see that at least PART of the blame for this mess resides on the impatient alumni, fans, and boosters then they must be blind.

To completely blame LF for this is lunacy. The fans are the ones who ran off Herb Sendek. The fact that our fans treated Herb like he was the worst coach in America despite the fact he took the program from its all time low and returned the program to at least some level of national prominence MUST be considered by all coaches who would interview for the job.

We have made our bed….now we are in it.

Haith WANTS to come. He has recruited some studs like we haven’t seen in Raleigh in years – and he’s already beaten Roy. He’s our man.

Forget about Haith. There is NO WAY any school within the conference would hire a coach AWAY from another conference school. Just wont happen. Mark him off the list.

Being a State fan is a TV dinner. It comes with a very small portion dessert every once in while just to keep you interested, but it leaves you queasy and puking your guts out the rest.

State is also like a lottery ticket — most of the time you lose, every now and then you win a little bit to get you excited.

And then you sometime hit two jackpots.

Pulling for State is like eating a chocolate bar with little pieces of corn in it. To you, it’s a candy bar. But, everybody else sees you’re sucking on a turd.

    Guys,
It has happened multiple times before. I understand that it would not be right if

    1) we were established rivals
    2) Haith had extensive history with the school
    3) Miami was a huge basketball school and would be heartbroken to lose him

The fact is Miami is not established in the ACC and Haith has only been there a couple years. I think it’s worth looking into at the least.

There is a better chance of us hiring Phil Jackson than Frank Haith.
