As has been Mark Gottfried’s philosophy since arriving in Raleigh, the Wolfpack’s nonconference schedule is again very formidable this year. But tonight’s game is not expected to be one of the tough ones as (linked here) you will see Jackson State at #310 of 351 Division One college basketball teams.

You can click here and click here if for some reason you want to jump deeper into previews of Jackson State.

With some of these smaller D-I basketball programs, it sometimes seems like they turn over an entire roster from one season to the next. Almost half of Jackson State’s borderline-excessive 18-man roster is new for the 2014-15 season, one obvious sign of a program with a second-year coach in full rebuilding mode.

The Tigers finished last year 11-20 (7-11), which was only good enough for seventh in the 10-team SWAC; the program has not had a winning season since 2011. They bottomed out in 2012 with a seven-win campaign that somehow did not cost ninth-year head coach Tevester Anderson his job. The following season did, though.

[snip]

In addition to the weak two-point shooting, the Tigers were also poor from beyond the arc, where they shot 29.3%. They were one of the least-frequent three-point shooting teams in the nation (way to recognize your limitations, fellas!), so they were getting very little to speak of from the ol’ bonusphere.

There is no indication from their exhibition games that they are suddenly shifting into a three-heavy offense heading into 2015. Oh, and another thing: one of those exhibition games was against Tougaloo College, a tiny private school that plays at the NAIA level. Jackson State lost by 21.

We haven’t spent too much time on preseason prognostications simply because there will be plenty of time in this early part of the season to merge the preseason hype with what we are seeing on the court…but, we’ll start to dive deeper into basketball in the days to come! In the meantime, we highly encourage you to keep up with a whole host of individual topic in real time by clicking here.

    Wooooooooo HOOOOOOO !!!

    Go PACK!

There’s lots of interesting pieces in this puzzle which should combine to make this TEAM will be the best of the GOTT era (so far) to watch… and there’s no shortage of guys who could be somebody’s “favorite” player.

Hate it, but I will miss this one – on a plane, but hopefully it will be the only one I miss all year.

    1) Center – Who will start? Nard, like the exhibition, or will the “future king of the world”, BeeJay?
    2) Frosh – Are Caleb and Abu for real?
    3) Cat – Is he going to turn into a pass first PG? Can he limit turnovers?
    4) Wash – 6’9″, high energy, hard working, athletic power forward. I think he needs to get 10+ ppg / 5+ rpg for us to be really good.
    5) Trevor – how long will it take to adjust?

Can’t remember being this excited for a season in a while. I expect them to b e fun to watch grow into a good team.

Is there a streaming site that is not ESPN3.com? What ever happened to ESPN3 being FREE!

No problem with ESPN3 here – that is other than the usual crap.

^Unsure, but I don’t believe ‘Watch Espn’ app covers Espn3 games

Barber w/ the first point of the season – from the line. Offense hasn’t looked too bad or disjointed – showing some aggression w/ penetration. Just not scoring. Early look against zone D.

Jackson St. looks overmatched when on offense.

Watch Hipster Cat in halfcourt defense. So freaking active. He doesn’t take a millisecond off, physically or mentally.

    ^Oops, sorry.

4-2 Pack at the first break. Lacey on the line coming back.

The game shows up on the computer but not the app. Really bizarre

I found it. Go to the website and click on the game. Don’t launch the app from the website until you find the game. Once you click on the game it will ask you to launch the app. Say yes and the game comes up in the App.
