anybody have the scoop on who the local hosts will be? The two names mentioned in this article don’t exactly have me swooning…Mark Roberts has one of the most annoying voices I’ve ever heard, as demonstrated in his new Capital Ford commercials, which make me want to throw the TV out a window…

This station carries the Carolina Hurricanes games now. Unfortunately, the signal is very weak. I’m in Cary and during the broadcast of the opening game last week against Montreal, the signal was so poor it was almost not worth listening to. Unless they intend to boost their signal strength, they won’t attract many listeners.

The morning guy is supposed to Mike Maniscalco who was on the afternoon slot on the Richmond sports station. Also they are going to run Dan Patrick’s new show.

Another outlet for so-called intelligencia to rip the Pack,

  5. packplantpath 10/10/2007 at 2:03 PM #

Please not Mark Roberts. I could barely get through traffic with him. Most annoying man ever.

Wow…tough crowd. Mark Thomas (Class of 92 NC State Tight End) will host from 3-7pm. That’s a tough call since he’s going up against one of my favorites (Dave Glenn) over at 850 The Buzz.

  7. RegularExpression 10/10/2007 at 3:32 PM #

Interesting call on Mark Roberts. Let’s just say I believe him to have a “wide stance.” I’m looking forward to hearing Mark Thomas as well.

Scott Jackson from DC is on with Mark Thomas.

They are running Tony Bruno from 12-3 , Dan Patrick from 9-12 and Maniscalso in the AM.

I’m listening right now…they don’t have ads…but are just running PSAs. Strange also that CBC hasn’t put up a website for the station. Wouldn’t you want to sell some ads and get the website up and running before you put the talent on the air?

I think I heard them say Monte Towe would be on the program, but I’m not sure if he’s going to be on today or later this week.

  11. joe 10/10/2007 at 4:05 PM #

It’s not unusual for a station to have no (or few) ads when they start up. It’s done partly to bring in more listeners at first.

Back in the 80s a new FM rock station in NYC went their first 6 months without ads. That was an extreme case.

Whenever I’m a little constipated, all I have to do is think about Roberts and it’s all good. (Didn’t wanna let y’all in on more about me than you wanted to know but…you know…I’ve been waiting for a good reason to use that one)

On a different note, why the hell do ALL of the preseason hoops rags feature that over rated jackass Travels Hopsbrough on the cover proclaiming him as the second coming of Christ?

Sid and / or the ‘Pack should be there instead, proclaiming that the ‘Pack is BACK, Jack!

We’ve ALL heard and seen every single member of the media drop to their knees in front of Hopsbrough, and I, for one, am already tired of it.

  14. jbpackfan 10/10/2007 at 6:11 PM #

Tyler willed himself onto all those covers. Further indicating Tyler’s will is Mike DeCourcy:

“Tyler Hansbrough, North Carolina. He’s going to be a first-team All-American. He won’t allow himself not to be. But will he be the kind of dominant guy who wins awards like this?”

    http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=287422

Just because someone bulls himself into the lane, travels all the time and takes fouls, does that mean they have extraordinary will that no other human can ever hope to achieve? Who is the jackass that got everyone saying Tyler has this mystical willpower?

  15. RabidWolf 10/10/2007 at 6:14 PM #

Ummmm…….I think it was Jimmy Dicks..errr..Dickless…errr…Dykes (knew I’d get it).

  16. RabidWolf 10/10/2007 at 6:25 PM #

    Wait a minute…..mystical? What, like a fairy?

FM Talk Radio, great idea but 15 years late. At least I will get a clear signal listening to two guys decide if UNC-USC is the biggest rivalry in the country or in the universe. Blah.

  18. RabidWolf 10/10/2007 at 8:05 PM #

It might have been a good rivalry back in the ’80s, but I prsonally think the COCKS are going to destroy UNX.

Watching hockey right now—man, the Isles and Rangers just don’t like each other. Sloppy, yet entertaining hockey.

Listened in the car this afternoon driving to appts. Towe was on, very nice interview. Had Antwan Jamison and Greg Ellis on also, thought Thomas was going to be sick. The one fact I liked (OK, actually hated it, was terrible homerism) was Thomas kept referring to the Pack as “us” and “we”.

As long as they talk sports and don’t just diss every athlete — they will do well — I listened tonight and when they got off on fried food at the fair for 20 minutes — it sounded like 850 in the AM

  22. PamlicoPack 10/11/2007 at 9:28 AM #

My expeeriences listening so far are pretty weak. Last night after nine as I was driving home they had some sort of local show going, but they were talking to the play by play guy of the Dallas Mavericks…about ACC hoops…it was pathetic…the host didn’t know much more about the ACC then the guest did…hitting all the teams you’d pick up by doing a google search on ACC basketball five minutes before the show started…Duke (blah, blah, blah, Coach K is going to get it done, blah blah, blah, premier program in America, blah, blah), UNC, Wake (dead Prosser) and (WTF?) Virginia, terming Letaio as someone who was “getting it done” at Virginia…

Program manager must have ties to Dallas, because then they had Dan Patrick on this morning, (talking up his 9-1 gig on the station ) and the first question is about TO, and they ask him nothing about local sports. Turned it back on 30 minutes later and they are going on and on in the studio about TO again.

I like the idea of FM sports radio, but I’m not impressed with what I’ve heard so far. I’ll try the afternoon show again based on comments above (they were going on and on about hockey when I had it on yesterday…)

  23. joe 10/11/2007 at 9:51 AM #

They don’t have local show on at 9 PM, it’s some show from out of town about the ACC.

  24. packof81 10/11/2007 at 1:20 PM #

I listened last night and the signal was much stronger. I guess they didn’t have their main transmitter online last week or they were just trying it out at low power.

Good for Thomas. We need some NC State homerism in the Triangle sports talk market. You ever listen to John Kilgo on Packman’s show?
