NCAA and Mascots

I doubt too many of you peruse all the major LSU websites on a regular basis, but I thought that you might find this article on mascots interesting considering NC State’s “mascot prowess” and since the ban impacts the ACC’s fomerly marquee football program.

Who knows? One day the NCAA may take this so far that the Rebels of Ole Miss and the Tarheels of North Carolina might offend someone who doesn’t support the advancement of slavery. The Rebels have already voluntarily eliminated their once prominent sideline mascot – Colonel Reb. For those that don’t know, “Tarheels” is a Civil War reference earned by the soldiers from North Carolina as representatives of the Confederacy because they were the last to retreat from battle as if they had “tar on their heels”.
