Syracuse @ State (and ACC) gametimes set

Jamie Barnette vs Syracuse during the Orange's last visit to Carter-Finley Stadium in 1998. The Wolfpack whipped the 11th ranked Orangemen, 38-17 behind 349 of total offense attributable to Barnette.

Jamie Barnette, Carter-Finley Stadium in 1998, led NC State with 349 of offense as the Wolfpack whipped the 11th ranked Orangemen, 38-17.

Kick-off for the Syracuse Orange’s visit to Carter-Finley Stadium on October 12th has been set for 3:30pm and will be televised by Fox Regional Sports Networks. This is the exact same time and television slotting the Wolfpack got for this weekend’s visit to Winston-Salem. Personally, I strongly prefer the 3:30 slot to noon games, particularly if the noon game means ACC Network coverage instead of ESPN coverage.

The ACC’s line-up for other games on October 12th is as follows.

Pitt at Virginia Tech, ESPNU, Noon
Navy at Duke, ACC Network, 12:30 p.m.
Boston College at Clemson, ABC, ESPN2 or ESPNU*, 3:30 p.m.
Virginia at Maryland, ABC, ESPN2 or ESPNU*, 3:30 p.m.
Syracuse at NC State, Regional Sports Networks, 3:30 p.m.
Georgia Tech at BYU, ESPNU, 7 p.m.

Converse to the conference’s slate on October 12th, the ACC’s games of this coming Saturday are MUCH more intriguing. The following is the updated conference schedule for this weekend.

Maryland at Florida State, ESPN, Noon
Clemson at Syracuse, ABC/ESPN2*, 3:30 p.m.
Georgia Tech at Miami, ESPNU, 3:30 p.m.
Ball State at Virginia, RSN, 12:00 p.m.
North Carolina at Virginia Tech, ACC Network, 12:30 p.m.
Army at Boston College, ESPN3, 1 p.m.
NC State at Wake Forest, RSN, 3:30 p.m.

David Glenn calls in sick to the David Glenn show. I wonder why he’s sick today?

I was listening as well, JG78, and was surprised he wasn’t there to support the Pie-rats huge win. Also, to talk about how Fedora can’t coach his team up!!

Tech at Miami is a giant game in the Coastal. Jackets coming off a tough loss to the Hokies. Looks like this could be a big year for Miami.

And how about the undefeated Terps, beating up on JV teams of course, now in the polls at #25? Noles should crush them. Jameis Winston is the real deal.

Clemson should have no trouble with Cuse. And Hokies get a chance to stick a fork in UNC. They will be out for revenge following last year’s debacle.

Time for us to get up for Wake. We all know the (miserable) history. Sticks out like a sore thumb.

Checking out the Wake blog, bloggersodear.com, Wake’s working to exorcise their inner-Mazzone. They have even resorted to poetry (link here.) Agreed with other threads given our previous history, I hate playing at Grove Stadium because of the damn losses I’ve watched throughout my life. All that said, I will be in attendance, should a ticket find me through back channels.

As for the rest of the weekly schedule, I will never pull so hard for Va Tech as I will this coming Saturday!! Larry Fedora might not win many more games this year if his team shows a performance like that one again.

That 1998 Syracuse game was amazing fun. I was with my buddies on the old grass bank.

It was also a microcosm of the season. We barely beat Ohio, then thrashed #2 FSU, then lost at Baylor, then thrashed #11 Syracuse.

Have we got any more word on Mitchell’s status? I’m hearing a return for Wake on one hand, and Syracuse on the other. I believe Syracuse makes more sense, but Wake IS godawful.

I remember that 98 game too. I believe it was raining that night.

We put some chunks in McNabb’s soup.

DD’s talking about getting juiced for the WF game:

‘You gotta bring the juice to a road game’ says @StateCoachD

Thanks, 13. Hopefully he can use Syracuse to get back into game flow, the week off to refine some mistakes, and then we can roll into Tally with a little bit of good ju ju. Marcus Stone won there as a starter, so I’m not totally against the idea of an improbable victory.

We ruined not one, but TWO McNabb Heisman campaigns.

I was at my brinking buddy’s house, screaming TWO!!! And to my shock and delight, MOC heard me and went for the win on the road.

Are the RSN games available on ESPN3 or some other online source?

I remember that ’98 game well. My wife (girlfriend at the time) and I stormed the field and jumped on the goal post. I am a little foggy as to whether we made it to them and on them but i want to say yes. I don’t remember any rain,; I do remember getting an ESPN t-shirt.

I am excited to see more of our offense with a healthy BM. He was actually hurt on the second drive of the LA Tech game. If you watch the replay you can see him favoring his foot.

UNC’s schedule is front loaded. I expect they will be 1-5 or 2-6 when they play us. We will undoubtedly be their Super Bowl and they have a much softer schedule after us. It will be interesting to see if LF can rally them after the VT and UM games.

What year did State beat Syracuse At the Carrier Dome? That was the game where State scored very late in the game and O’Cain went for two. Syracuse was caught totally off guard and fortunately the play worked. State won in regulation.

Conventional coaching wisdom would have called for kicking the extra point to tied the game and then take your chances in overtime. Coach O’Cain decided to go for it instead.

The year before the home tilt – 97??

Actually, this was the first OT period, wasn’t it? I think the game only went to OT because we forced and recovered a goal line fumble at the end of regulation when Cuse decided not to kick FG.

Our poor defense was gassed, and Cuse got their OT touchdown easily. Another stop was not in the cards.

  15. LRM 10/01/2013 at 11:35 AM #

^Yes. That ’97 game at the Dome, Syracuse fumbled on the 1-yd line on 3rd down when a FG would’ve won it. It was the first year of the OT rule and we caught them off guard on the 2-pt conversion with a quick strike to Holt.

That ’98 game it didn’t rain, it was a beautiful night.

Ah yes, that was the last game I saw NC State win in person. I went the next week and we got killed by GT.

A great night, I was shocked we spanked them so hard.

I thought there was rain, but I may be mixing this one up with the Ohio game.

David Glenn calls in sick to the David Glenn show. I wonder why he’s sick today?

I believe he made a bet that if the games he predicted on Friday did not come true he would call in sick to work on Monday.
