Full Bowl Schedule & Helping SFN

If you missed some of the work we did on the blog over the weekend then I would ask you to spend some time reviewing some of the entries. Had some good and interesting stuff.

As always, our Message Forums are available to talk about anything you want. In fact, I want to encourage you to jump into the forums and start driving some conversations today. I think all of Wolfpack-nation needed a breather after the Maryland loss (followed by the Wisconsin debacle). That has past. It is now time to step up and get re-engaged.

Here is a link to the entire 2010-2011 College Football Bowl Schedule.

I just put a bunch of the games in my Outlook calendar and was surprised at how disinterested I am in many of this year’s match-ups – particularly the games played after New Year’s Eve. I think this comes from a combination of hangover from NC State’s late season egg-laying and some games that just aren’t as appealing to me.

The January-bowl that is consistently most interesting to me is the Capital One Bowl; and this year’s match-up of Alabama and Michigan State doesn’t let me down. Also, the Sugar Bowl match-up should be fun to pull for a strong southern team to wax Ohio State (again).

Any thoughts on games that are particularly interesting?

Important Note:
Our readers often ask us how they can help SFN? and we rarely have anything to ask. Well, today we have found a way you can help!

StateFansNation has partnered with Rentacarnow and we will benefit when you book your rental cars by clicking through SFN to the site. The site basically a portal just like Ortbitz or Expedia that offers the lowest rental car prices in cities all over the country.

All you have to do is click on the widget that is included below or on the front page of SFN. We would really appreciate you considering using this option to book ANY rental car travel! Obviously, the bowl game being an ideal trip to start using it!!

Thank you so very much for the time.

Big 10-SEC matchups are always interesting because of the rawring about who is the best football conference. Even though its clear the SEC its a step ahead.

The UNC-Tenn will be interesting. Really want UNC to fall to 7-6.

Even though we have to play a Big East opponent, I really want to see NC State improve its running game and show it in the bowl. Its a big reason our offense seemed to sputter. And will help show what we have going into next year.

At least WVU is by far the best Big East opponent to play.

SEC ACC matchups will be a great litmus test.

I’m seeing a few jewels amongst the noise:

    Alabama / Mich St
    Wisconsin / TCU
    FSU / So Carolina
VaTech / Stanford (I’m really excited to see that one)
    Oklahoma / UConn
    Texas A&M / LSU
then, of course the Auburn / Oregon NC game

    Questions:
How did Michigan get in the Gator Bowl?
How do Mobile and Birmingham get bowls the second week of January?
Would you even want some of those bowl names on a trophy? I mean the list of bowl names just cracks me up. The Beef O’Brady St. Petersburg Bowl? The Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl?

I really want to see NC State improve its running game…

Is this a joke? It certainly made me laugh.

    ??

We need these extra practices to improve our team.

Teams know all they need to do is go after our passing game to stop us. Unless I am mistaken, we have become somewhat 1 dimensional on offense. Especially the second half of the year.

UNX really lucked out not having to play Dan Mullen and Miss St. the Bulldogs would crush them.

I think the irony of the Music City Bowl is hilarious :

    The Volunteers vs The Professionals

“The Volunteers vs The Professionals”. That is hilarious. With your permission, Prowling Woofie, I’d like to re-gift that line and get some mileage out of it! Good one.

The current BCS: Connecticut’s playing in a BCS bowl, Michigan State, Nevada and Boise State, all 11-1, and LSU, Oklahoma State and Missouri, all 10-2, aren’t. TCU, maybe the best team this season and unbeaten, was going to be denied a spot in the BCS title game no matter what happened last weekend in Georgia or Oregon.

The current bowls: Michigan is in the Gator Bowl because they’re college football’s winningest program, not because of their 7-5 record this season. Ditto for Notre Dame. We’re in the Champs Bowl because we have a better fan base than Maryland, not because Maryland already played West Virginia.

The fact that more bowls than ever are extending the season into January, with wholehearted NCAA support, proves that the reason we don’t have a playoff has nothing to do with the season being extended too long for a playoff. The reason is that power and money are ALL that this is all about, and the big conferences and television won’t give up their control.

Like the self-anointed SEC, the Big 12 had two 10-2 teams who didn’t make their league title game, but Arkansas was chosen over Missouri and Oklahoma State for the Sugar Bowl. And the Big 12, a much better league than the ACC this season, sees its champion sent to play unranked UConn, while Virginia Tech gets a top four opponent. Why would you want to send Stanford and UConn to the opposite coast? I’m sure their fans who wanted to drive to the game didn’t like this, but since when do fans matter anymore in BCS World?

Just a thought, had we won the acc and played Stanford in the Orange bowl, how confusing would that have been for the refs and tv analysts?

  10. Packfan28 12/06/2010 at 1:18 PM #

^ Not confusing at all. They’d be the ones with 60 points, and we be the ones with 10.

  11. StateFans 12/06/2010 at 1:22 PM #

^ Can’t argue that. In fact, I was thinking something similar while watching Virginia Tech on Saturday night. Does anyone have any thoughts on if you think we would have been able to beat VPI Saturday night?

    I don’t think so.

As for the Sugar Bowl, Go Bucks! I’m sending way too much money to Columbus to have them lose to the pigs.

wolfbuff – use at will 😉

Prowling Woofie, that was a good one. I intend to get some mileage out of that one, too. 🙂

The Cotton Bowl with LSU and A&M, the CapOne Bowl with Bama and Sparty, the Alamo Bowl with Zona and Okie St, and the Independence with GT and Air Farce which is a treat for a throwback guy like me.

Most bowls are garbage, but hey, its football.
