Greg Little played basketball at UNC

When will the folks in Chapel Hill learn to stop talking? Many, many followers of the UNC football scandal have been wondering about potential spillover to other athletic programs at UNC – specifically the sacred UNC basketball program.

Today, Coach Roy Williams goes on the record:

“But I have, since the news has been out there, checked with our people to see if we had anybody involved with that specific tutor; is this something that I’m going to get a call about in the middle of the night?” he said. “And I’ve been assured that it’s not going to be a call I’m going get in the middle of the night, and I’ve been assured that there has not been any contact with that particular tutor. That’s as far as I can go; that’s as far as they want me to ask. They want me to keep my nose out of it, and I’m trying to do that – and gladly doing that, to be honest with you.”

As far as the second comment in bold, if Roy’s program has nothing to hide, then I am not sure why he is so “gladly” keeping his “nose out of it” regarding prong #2 of the UNC athletic scandal. But enough about that comment. Let’s focus on the first statement in bold and take a quick look at the 2008 UNC basketball roster:

# Name Pos. Yr. Ht. Wt. Home Town High School
1 Marcus Ginyard SG JR 6-5 218 Alexandria, VA Bishop O’Connell
4 Bobby Frasor SG JR 6-3 208 Blue Island, IL Brother Rice
5 Ty Lawson PG SO 5-11 193 Clinton, MD Oak Hill Academy
11 Quentin Thomas PG SR 6-3 185 Oakland, CA Oakland Technical
13 Will Graves F FR* 6-6 255 Greensboro, NC Dudley
14 Danny Green SF JR 6-5 210 North Babylon, NY St. Mary’s
15 J.B. Tanner G JR 6-0 185 Hendersonville, NC West Henderson
21 Deon Thompson PF SO 6-8 240 Torrance, CA Torrance
22 Wayne Ellington SG SO 6-4 200 Wynnewood, PA The Episcopal Academy
24 Surry Wood F SR 6-5 205 Raleigh, NC Cary Academy
30 Jack Wooten G JR 6-2 190 Burlington, NC Williams
32 Alex Stepheson PF SO 6-9 235 Los Angeles, CA Harvard-Westlake
35 Patrick Moody F JR 6-4 195 Asheville, NC Roberson
40 Mike Copeland PF JR 6-7 235 Winston-Salem, NC Reynolds
45 Greg Little G FR 6-3 210 Durham, NC Hillside
50 Tyler Hansbrough PF JR 6-9 245 Poplar Bluff, MO Poplar Bluff

Yes, that is Greg Little you see on that roster.

Roy announces Greg’s participation on the team.

Link to Greg’s stats for the 10 games he participated in.

And if that isn’t enough for Roy to remember Greg’s participation, here is Little showing the lack of sportsmanship on the basketball court that he is now infamous for on the football field after he taunted an NC State player that suffered a devastating knee injury. More examples of the “Carolina Way”….

Maybe Greg Little isn’t involved in prong #2/nannygate? So Roy’s statement could in fact be true. Also, Roy can’t be faulted for not considering Little to be one of “his” players since he was a football player. However, maybe Roy does have something to worry about as far as illegal participation that could jeopardize the 2008 basketball season that included an ACC regular season title, an ACC tournament title, and a Final Four appearance? In the long run, Little’s participation probably isn’t a big deal, but it should be interesting to see in the future if Roy works with Butch on the basketball participation recruiting tactic he employs.

Good research. I had no idea Little was on the bball team. Ya’ll should be the NCAA investigators. You could probably bring their whole athletics department down. haha

He probably played against teams like UNC-Asheville and Presbyterian. It would be hilarious if they had to forfeit games like that if he played any minutes. I doubt he saw any ACC or NCAA Tournament action. The Jarvis Byrd incident still infuriates me.

^That is why links are provided. He played in 5 ACC games.

Why is his participation not a big deal?

If he particpated and is ineligible, wouldn’t they forfeit the game?

That’s one less mythical regular season banner champion that they can hang in the nose dome.

Great. I am surprised that 5 out of the 10 games he played in were ACC games. Were they regular season games only?

I absolutely love the way in which statefansnation is jamming these problems down the holes deep throats. We always knew their throats were deep,; now we’re just trying to find the bottom. Keep the good news coming guys!

Unfortunately, honor code or NCAA violations occuring in 2009-2010 or 2010 – 2011 academic years will have little or no bearing on the 2008 basketball team, unless someone can dig up more dirt going back that far (and with the NCAA allowing UNC to do perform the investigation, there is no way in seven hells that is gonna happen).

Roy Williams sure does come off as a pompous DB in those comments. Maybe UNC needs to apply the “NCAA mandated” gag order to him as well.

“Roy Williams sure does come off as a pompous DB in those comments”

That’s because Roy Williams is a pompous DB.

    “Defensive Back”???

I thought he was a DA!

    IanGumby — Good point.

Anytime Roy is asked a question with which he is not comfortable, he gives an arrogant, indignant response. Pompous DB about sums it up.
    The Carowhina way.

I believe IamGumby is correct. The only way that particular edition of the Hole basketball team could see any trouble is if Little comitted violations while on the roster.

Not saying he didn’t (or the whole team for that matter), but someone would have to dig deep to establish violations at that time.

Still, interesting that he was on the roster … if only this investigation – er, sorry – I mean REVIEW could go over to that pristine basketball program.

As for Roy, he might as well say “They’re not asking me to discover if we cheat or not and I’m glad not to do that to be honest with you!!!”

Keep your nose clean, keep your nose clean …

They won’t do anything to UNC basketball unless they are performing human trafficing or smuggling drugs into the country. Still, it would be funny if the NCAA shot a round over Carolina’s bow…

“They won’t do anything to UNC basketball unless they are performing human trafficing or smuggling drugs into the country. ”

Actually, I think that would be good news for tarheels. If those things were found to be happening at UNC, they’d get the State Dept and Justice Dept on their side, lined up against the NCAA.

    Ask Arizona.

Roy Williams is a DB, and Butch Davis is the bidet.

Wayne ‘free housing for daddy’ Ellington is on that roster…

STOP THE PRESSES (or maybe, Kill the Servers),

THE N&O is reporting that the AP has a reliable, but anonymous source, that has “insider information” is reporting that Greg Little’s seat on the bus will be VACANT. For what ever reason (Agent Gate, Tutor Gate, outstanding Jaywalking citation, etc.) Butch (or maybe the powers above him) have pulled the pin on Greg.

It would seem, if there is MERIT to this information, that Huckleberry Roy’s pucker factor just increased by an order of magnitude (that is increase by a facot of 10 for the non-scientific crowd). Hope that Greg’s transgressions were recent…..otherwise, Roy may need to keep his cellphone next to the bed for any late night calls.

This will probably be PULLED and labeled as the Lunatic Lobo news…but the N&O has it on their web page.

THIS JUST IN….WRAL is reporting the SAME….

The Inside Carolina site is awash with denial, disgust and degenerated comments…..more of this will ooze out as time passes.

You guys do realize that he was only on the 2007-2008 roster and didn’t have the tutor until a year or two later don’t you? It won’t have an affect on the basketball team.
