Great news, Charlotte about the time we should expect to be there. Notice I said expect, hopefully we can get there by 2009.

Maybe we can make it there by 2009 and I can see the pack play in the game in my own backyard…

However, overall, I think the attendance will be down – maybe worse than Jacksonville unless its FSU vs. Miami. Game will return to Charlotte, sell out both years, and never leave again. North Carolina, and more specifically Charlotte, is ACC Country. Things like this should be in central areas like Charlotte, Greensboro, and Raleigh. Easiest for all members by being more central.

I AGREE, tampa wont sell many seats either unless one or both of the fl schools are involved. i even think this game could word in the redskins stadium in DC

are there any viable options in VA other than possible home games for UVA and VAtech?

Does Tampa really solve the problem?

I think the order should be Charlotte first, the heart of the ACC, and the spread it out geographically once the game is established.

DC is basically northern Virginia. I can’t think of any stadiums other than college stadiums in Virginia.

Charlotte is an obvious choice due to the proximity to so many schools. It is a 5 hour drive or less from 8 of the 12 schools. FSU and Maryland would be drivable at 7 and 8 hours respectively. Also, the airport is a hub and is easy and cheap to get direct flights.

Plenty of hotels, nice “uptown” NFL venue, corporate support, ACC support but not a home game for any team by any stretch of the imagination. (Clemson and VT aren’t really any further than Raleigh)

Personally, I think it is a no brainer and is about time. It’s probably good that the other venues will have had a chance to “fail” and the game can sort of come into it’s own. It will be easier to keep in the same location going forward.

Tampa doesn’t really solve the problem, IMO. Realistically, FSU and UM are as far from a title game as NCSU and UNC.

There’s a solution to this that would guarantee a sellout every year. Play the game at the home field of one division champion – alternating between atlantic and coastal divisions each year. Yeah, one team gets a huge advantage, but until our championship game gets more popular with the fans, I don’t see any matchup that would guarantee a sellout. And if the game is in Charlotte and sells out, my guess is that the following bowl attendance for the non bcs team will be very low, it just costs too much money to go to a champioship game and then a bowl game.

In ACC Football related news, Wake has already sold 15,000 tickets to the Car Care Bowl. Impressive. That could keep them from getting passed over in years to come.

Play the game at the home field of one division champion

How would that have worked out last year for WF to host the championship game?

I’m not excited about having the ACC championship in Tampa. It seemed to me (and I could be wrong) that the basketball tournament held in Tampa was weak. I’m not against having the title game in a large venue, but please pick one that makes sense. Atlanta, Charlotte, DC, Baltimore, and even Foxboro could host in rotating years. Tampa gets too much from the ACC with nothing coming back to the conference in return. Again, this is opinion on my part and I could be way off-base factually.

I wonder if wakes sales are like ECU’s. I know quite a few people who are buying tickets to ECU’s bowl game to make the sales look good, but have no plan to attend. They even said they would buy tickets for anybody who is willing to pay the plane ticket.

Playing the championship game on one team’s home field is very…MAC-like. It’s counter to everything the championship game is supposed to be.

Charlotte had a conflict for either 2008 or 2009 and wasn’t an option.

Home and home would be a problem at the schools that are problems now (Wake, Miami, BC)

Right now, our championship game is worse than MAC-like. Playing a champioship game in a less than 1/5 full stadium is beyond embarassing. Let’s face it, the championship game has been a disaster. That won’t change until Charlotte gives us a chance at respectability, but that’s not for another 2 years. And they will be 2 loooong years of miserably attended championship games, futher placing the ACC as an afterthought in the BCS conference power discussions. Yes, it would be better to play the championship at Wake’s (or any other team’s) stadium, at least it would be full and have a great atmosphere. ANYTHING is an improvement over what we have now.
