I know that most of us have been only concerned today with the football game vs. Georgia Tech, which did not turn out well, and the first exhibition b

The only people that believe him are the Carolina Faithful, folks who’ve bought hook, line and sinker into the cult of the Carolina Way. Scientology has nothing on them. After all, the idea that Xenu put the souls of people into volcanoes is far more believable than Roy Williams not knowing what his players were doing academically.
11/09/2014 at 2:30 PM #61129AdventurooParticipantTwo salient points…
First, I saw this last night around midnight on the N&O site. We actually read it and had a drink….the Crown tasted good. There were about 30 some odd comments about it……and some from a very partisan (not of my ethnicity or political persuasion, but someone who does appear to “understand” that his co-horts in “the TRUE beliefs” be of the chemically altered brain state)…..and HE then OFFICIALLY disowned ORW and suggested that the bus be brought around.
This morning/pm there are over 115 (and counting) FB posts. Since I do NOT FB (like some that abstain from seeing the true light), I have not nor will I comment. The joy is just reading it and seeing the max exodus. It was actually WORSE than what happened in CF near the end of Q3 yesterday. If one was trying to walk UP to his seat…..forget it. The aisles were awash in the red “WOW, this is UGLY” Migration. Our usher said….don’t bother, bunch of nice seats down hear and I won’t hassle you.
And very few, if any, are defending ORW and the program. Read ’em and WEEP.
NEXT, there are some interesting (as well as good prose) comments on the Mary Willingham book thread. It sort of went into a state of suspended animation when the Yeller Jakits done took all the air outta da room. I would suggest reading them.
The N&O also cagily put the Whacky Macky DoDo SUES story on the page with the “rest of the story”.
You GOTTA love it.
GO PACK….and on to the NASCAR Race…..MEANWHILE….I just saw a “rerun” of the great adversity (keystone Kops) Q2 Fiasco that took all the Cialas out our manhood yesterday. The SF v NO 1st half ended with a two turnovers….
11/09/2014 at 5:00 PM #61135blpackParticipantKeeps getting better and better. By the spring, most U*NC fans with degrees will be crying for this to go away regardless of the price. Careful what you wish for….DEATH Penalty.
11/09/2014 at 5:14 PM #61136pakfanistanParticipantTo the NCAA, I would like to say:
11/09/2014 at 7:22 PM #61137SeaWolf72ParticipantI was all for ‘getting on with it’ to, but the slower they go the more they know. The latest article brought out the ‘gifts’ that Wayne W (Roy’s boy) gave to Crowder for her help. Take a little longer and they might even find the cash that changed hands. Won’t ever believe that these folks did it just to help out the kids. Follow the money…..
11/09/2014 at 7:40 PM #61138Prowling WoofieParticipantDo you think anyone in the media will ever pick up the cars/parking tickets/payment of parking tickets ball and run with it ???
That’s a prong that hasn’t been run to it’s conclusion yet !

11/10/2014 at 8:38 AM #61158AdventurooParticipantAlpha Wolf…..that about sums it up. I was thinking that if Bernie Madeoff is the epitome or “KING” of an Investment Flimflam, then Deborah Crowder is QUEEN of Academic Flimflams….
I usually check the Obit’s on the N&O (to see if my DW of 49 years has OTHER plans for me) and then their “opinion”.
This morning their “OPINION” or editorial is calling for “UNC Faculty Activism”. WOW, what a concept. I think that Dr. Larry (Saint to his friends and the 1990 NCSU Faculty Senate) Monteith has a new book out….
“Faculty Activism and Involvement for Dummies” It was written after the successful overthrow of Jimmy V’s empire where he did not foster the proper attitude and control over his team from both a moral and educational perspective.

You gotta love it….probably nothing will come of it….but hey, you never know…. if this were a stock or new “concept”…..will it be a FaceBook or MySpace?
11/10/2014 at 10:10 AM #61165JohnGalt78ParticipantWas at the game Saturday and, I might add, was properly aligned. Oh, and please forgive me if it has already been mentioned eleswhere. I have not read evey word of every post…probably because I was at the game and made a day of it. Anyway, in the context of this thread I wanted to mention that it seems the fans have again tweaked our fight song…which had years ago been modified from “over the hill to carolina” to a more appropriate and fitting “go to hell carolina”. Now, and I hope forever, hell has been replaced with “class”. Fantastic!!! I had not heard it in my section before. We’re up high just below the press box so I guess it took almost the whole season to reach us. Then, there it was. OUTSTANDING! I hope upon hope we are over there in a few weeks singing it at the top of our lungs!!!!!!!!!!!!! GO PACK!
11/10/2014 at 10:13 AM #61166bill.onthebeachParticipantThis quote from the N&0 is pretty staightforward…
… the faculty should now be as assertive as it was previously passive. It should insist that breaks for athletes be eliminated, that coaches be held accountable and that all faculty members fulfill their duty to be guardians of the university’s academic integrity.
Methinks the Rogues don’t need much more encouragement than this…
… amist the gathering storm clouds… on the horizons we see…
the new version of “The Four Corners” —Righteous Reverends from the North…
Rogues from the West
Pirates from the East
Bastard Barristers from the South…Silent Sam is smiling.

That is glorious. I laughed for 10 minutes at that.

^I agree. I hope this sticks.
11/10/2014 at 7:31 PM #61184HrryhoodParticipantNot sure if anyone else heard this on 102Jamz. This guy has a degree from UNC in communications…
Let’s see how deep the rabbit hole really goes.
11/10/2014 at 9:38 PM #61187rthomas44ParticipantWell,I listened to the tape and I know what I heard after the part about the girl taking the test for the bball player but I guess I am too old to really believe that the great “flagship” is this devoid of character. If this represents a typical “communications” graduate then they all should sue.
11/11/2014 at 8:44 AM #61192AdventurooParticipantHrryHood,
Could not get the link to work….but here it is…yours probably has the BB player’s name.
http://media.102jamz.com/a/99022771/3live-crew-interviews-tydreke-powell-of-unc.htm
That was entertaining…..and please, I am NOT a racist, but the elocution skills and enunciation of Tydreke Powell are perhaps NOT up to WRAL’s Jeff Gravely standards (who has a NCSU degree). You have to WONDER about what course he took…
I would think that a “communications” degree would have at least ONE or TWO courses in Public Speaking and basic grammar…
BUT, in his own street creed….he does lay it out. MAYBE there needs to PEER review so that student athletes like Tydreke get the necessary “remedial” help that qualifies them for UNC Courses….?
11/11/2014 at 9:35 AM #61193JohnGalt78ParticipantAudio was edited. Here’s a link to some of the audio’s transcript as edited by deadspin. I note the last paragraph…”Finally, Powell threw in an anecdote about how a female student did all the work for one athlete, after which “we all ran a train on her.”
So I’m thinking this does not mean they went on an Amtrak trip to South Beach. Looks like more impermissible benefits to me. But who would consider it a benefit…..players or tutor? Lot of factors go into that determination. I suggest we bring WeinerStein back or at the very least bring in TMZ. We’ve got two nice rings already. Let’s take this circus to a full three ring deal!
11/11/2014 at 10:14 AM #61195packbackr04Participantthat Deadspin article is damning to say the least. the way he talks about running “train” on the tutor makes it sound like this was something that was commonplace. horrible if true.
11/11/2014 at 10:58 AM #61198bill.onthebeachParticipant… sooner or later… right or wrong… something like this had to come out…
I’m pretty sure the Train Station was closed down in Chapel Hill decades ago….So let’s see if I have this right…
We have a woman Chancellor
We have a student body that’s 60% mol female…
We have one of strongest female faculties and curriculums in country…
They are all already on campus….Then we already have the Righteous Reverends, the Pirates and the Barristers from out of town all booking hotel rooms in and around Chapel Hill… Just when you thought the Party was ready to start… now we gonna have to wait until some more folks can show up…
Question is… will the Professional Victims’ Advocates have to stay in Raleigh – or god-forbid… Durham – or will they get the best offered at the Carolina Inn ?

disclaimer…
To be absolutely clear… I have three daughters… all more or less college ages… and in no ways whatsoever should this be misconstrued or misunderstood as condoning, supporting or silently saying nothing about Trains. Trains are wrong and they are bad for all involved and the punishment should fit the crime without consideration of mitigating circumstances.#NCSU-North Carolina's #1 FOOTBALL school!11/11/2014 at 11:47 AM #61203AdventurooParticipantActually, I believe that such happened in the 60’s. NOW, this is an urban tale. In the early 60’s the females in the cheerleading squads and majorettes were “protected”. Their parents actually did not let them travel with the bus of males. They either got private car transportation to away games or their parents provided it.
In the LATE 60’s, free love and whatever from UNC invaded our haloed campus. I lived in an apartment building close to campus and our parking lot was HUGE. However, the apartments next door had none…if any. One of the female members of the above mentioned organizations (I will NOT say which) often had large groups of the football players over for late night parties. It was rumored that she “KNEW” all three levels of each position as well as the special teams.
I was not inside….but I can also tell you that she did have friends and I watched the young ladies escort young males to OUR parking lot where they steamed up the windows….and then they, half an hour later, would escort ANOTHER male out….cycle was repeated. THAT is a FACT….
SO, we did have our own issues. However, over at UNC, they had this down to a more efficient process. Again, this comes from a UNC grad who was a manager of an athletic revenue producing team. He said that the recruits were “PROMISED” a Sweet Caroline if they came to UNC for the entire FOUR years. They also got to sample one during their visits and they got their CHOICE once they were on campus. There were “sorority” recruiters that had a LIST of young ladies and what “they” preferred. Sort of a an early paper version of Match.com. The coaches were aware. If a young male’s hormones were in check (or being relieved), then he could concentrate on his job more. In addition, he ran less risk of having to ply a young girl with alcohol (as well as himself) and did not have to start his moves as the bar was closing. Thus having a reliable supply of female companionship and also such that would actually “keep him in check” was GOOD.
AND there was NO shortage of recruits because you were in the “IN CROWD” of the high esteem BMOC. There was NOT such arrangements for the Chess Club or Debate Society.
Again, this was told by someone who did not BS…

I think they stay in Raleigh and take the train to Tarholeville…train..train ..train…train of fools.. the Amtrak of flagships..Oh, you mean that kind of train….never mind…Seriously, this scandal is a bit of an archeological excavation of sorts…slow and tedious, but ever revealing…You need paintbrushes and such to get to the truth that is buried there..Make no mistake, the truth will reveal itself when all is said and done….It is how history records it that matters…Stay thirsty, Pack fans..
