N.C. State vs, Notre Dame – 6:30pm

N.C. State Wolfpack (13-7, 4-3) vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (18-2, 6-1) – 6:30pm @ PNC Arena | Tv: EspnU

GoPack game snippet | Notre Dame team page

After two consecutive road contests, the Wolfpack return home this evening with a huge opportunity to notch another quality win. N.C. State went 1-1 on their recent road swing, picking up a crucial road win against improving FSU and missing an opportunity for a big win at Miami.

A win tonight against a resurgent Irish squad would give the Pack another RPI Top 50 win and considerably bolster N.C. State’s at-large resume. The Wolfpack are squarely on the proverbial bubble heading into February, so each result from here out will be magnified in importance. For the Pack, it’ll be the cliche ‘one game at a time’ mantra starting tonight as the upcoming stretch of games will help decide their postseason fate.

Notre Dame enters tonight’s contest in midst of a solid turnaround season thus far. The return of guard Jerian Grant to the roster has helped Notre Dame rebound from a down ’13-’14 campaign. Their non-conference schedule didn’t do much for their strength of schedule, but they did pick up a nice neutral court win over Michigan State. The Irish also own a great victory in conference play by virtue of winning at the Cheat Dome. Even with those impressive victories and a Top 10 national ranking, Notre Dame is two spots behind N.C. State in the RPI. Never underestimate the value of scheduling as it pertains to college basketball.

The Irish make their hay from the perimeter, so stout defense and rebounding will be key for a Wolfpack victory tonight.

Hopefully the Pack will have more smiling faces tonight against the Irish

The disparity is ND ain’t playing any defense. Simple as that.

Terrible rebounding there. Lessons from Miami, now.

FUCK. That was BAD in the last two minutes, Pack. Can’t do that. Just can’t.

No effing way this should be a 12 point game. Stripes helped them considerably.

You’re right, grabbing and shoving isn’t “defense”

    OK…

that four minutes goes to ND…
    ND gets the last basket…

should called a Timeout to get the D in place…

We looking at four Pack players with TWO fouls..
which means they are a lot better than our second team…

    Pack – 3
    ND – 1

    Smoke if you GOTT ’em
    Halftime…

ND is getting open looks from behind the line. If those go down it will be tight down the stretch. Just need to tighten it up and we are well on our way to another big win.

The true test will be how we come out of the locker room. We lost the Miami game in the first few minutes of the 2nd half.

I would really like to see our guys come out strong in the second half. We haven’t always done so.

That’s exactly right. That’s the lesson from Miami. Come out strong, build on the lead and we are good. Don’t let them back in. Not tonight.

Dez got mugged on the Martin three rebound action. ND hasn’t tried to foul on the flushes that’s why they’re not in trouble. They will hit a hot streak on threes in the second half. We will need 86-88 points to win this game so we had better not let up.

And Grant is as advertised. He can score when he wants to. We did a solid job on him but if he gets going, watch out. He’s a special game changing kind of player.

Happy to be up 12 and look good for most of the half … frustrated that the lead is not where it should be – some sloppy play and favorable calls have ND in the game. Des absolutely got fouled late.

There are trade offs in the lineup.

The go-go twins need to stay-stay at home a bit more on the D glass.

    This is worrysome to me.

^I thought Cody was outstanding that half against him

Stripes helped ND, but State did not play well the last 2.5 min. First 2 min out of the half will set tone for game. Feels like a nail-biter finish coming.

    Brey will adjust at halftime.

Therefore, you play Cat on Grant the entire half, and disrupt their perimeter game.

Look at the balanced scoring: 8, 8, 7, 6, 6, 4 and 3. That’s fantastic. Lacey with the 3 points, but 6 assists. I hope he resists the urge to force his offense, and continues to look for his mates.

^Really kept ND in the game. Trade offs for sure.

I know it’s heresy, but I start with BSW on the bench. I think they press us, and we need our best ballhandling and defensive lineup to withstand the blow.

He got bothered early and didn’t snap out of it. We’ll need to be all over him this half.
