Homecoming 2012 – UVa @ NC State
As the N&O said, it’s crunch time for the ‘underperforming’ Wolfpack (Link)
N.C. State (5-3) has been very good after a loss, 10-1 since 2010, and the Cavaliers (2-6), losers of six straight, have been bad in just about every scenario since September
Virginia hasn’t won an ACC game this year. NC State has only lost one game in the last three years at home. Please tell me that it isn’t time for “NC State Shit” to make an appearance!
Why NC State Might Win: The Pack has more depth and talent, but especially on passing downs.
Mike Glennon brings stability and downfield potential to the NC State passing game, something Virginia has lacked all year. Glennon is a next-level quarterback, with a cadre of gifted receivers, such as Bryan Underwood, Quintin Payton and Tobais Palmer. That trio could have its way with a Cavaliers secondary that’s allowed 14 touchdown passes and picked off just one. The Cavs will also be on high alert whenever their own quarterback drops back to throw. The Pack ranks No. 12 nationally in sacks, producing pressure from myriad different angles.
What To Watch Out For: There are plenty of reasons why Virginia has struggled in 2012. Shaky special teams. Turnovers. The Cavaliers rank 120th in the nation in turnover margin, collecting just four takeaways in eight games. On the other side of the field, this could be a banner game for that Wolfpack secondary, which will be closely watching the eyes of Sims. CB David Amerson may not have blown up the way he did in 2011, but he remains an elite pass defender, who’s liable to increase his ACC lead in interceptions.
What Will Happen: State will need to have a short memory after last week’s gut-wrenching loss. Glennon and head coach Tom O’Brien will make sure of it.
The Pack is a veteran team that’s grown accustomed to the ebbs and flows of a campaign. They’ll rebound in a hurry against a Virginia squad that lacks the talent and the motivation to pull a road upset. Glennon will throw a pair of scoring strikes, while the defense harasses Sims into repeated mistakes. State will easily win the turnover margin, coasting in the second half of a comfortable victory.
NC State 31
Virginia 16

JohnFalt78, you forgot the free wrap from Hardees!
Sat thought the whole miserable game and spent a lot of time in the second half following TOB with the binoculars. I wonder who he is listening to the whole game, maybe he had a different game on, music, book on tape or hopefully planning family trips for next fall?
I only saw him get near some players a few times and I’m not sure he even spoke to them. When your team is flat and playing as it they do not give a sh__, have you ever thought of getting in their face?
My desires for the prologue.
We go a respectable 2-1 to end the season and finsish 7-5. I guesss I could accept 1-2 and end up at 6-6. Regarless of whether we get in another shi%%y bowl, we have a new coach in place ASAP.
Anything is better than another year of this staff. I think they have lost much respect from the players.
Wake game at 3:00. Wonder if the coaches know this? Apparently they didn’t know the VA game started at 12:30 cause for sure the team didn’t show up.
The highlight of our season, we beat FSU, and down hill from there. Unreal! But so TOB like.
x
Good thing we had all those geniuses to say adios to Russell so we could have Glennon for this breakout season.
I won’t put this one on Glennon, though he didn’t help matters. The whole team sucked, and that only happens when the coaches do a poor job preparing the team for the game. TOB and staff you get a failing grade on this one. As someone said earlier, please give us prior notice so we can find something better to do next time. I am seriously considering finding something else to do next Saturday. Certainly don’t need to endure such agony again, so soon. As tarholes fans say, wait til basketball!
I saw no positives. No area looked good yesterday. I think Debbie makes a change after we go 7-5 or 6-6 and I’d be ok with that. No emotion = losing to the worst team in a bad division on HC. Inexcusable.
The highlight yesterday was the exhibition basketball game – although I was disappointed Debbie Yow didn’t ask for a mic at halftime and announce TOB’s retirement and the release of Glennon from the “team”
There is plenty of blame for the coaches but don’t forget the players. Their attitude for the entire games was lazy, laughing and joking and giving no effort at all and not careing that they were getting blown out by a terrible Va. team. They were an embarassment and if they don’t care, why should we care about trying to support them?
Woke up today thinking I had had a bad dream. Unbelievable. How do you like TOB now? The coach sought us out for a place to retire. So please go ahead.
Again the coaches mentor these players and it is there job to make them produce. And when they don’t, then get it in there face. Ooops. I forgot our coaches would never do that. Thus our problem. As for Glennon he has made his mistakes, but won games for us too, and kept us in many we could have won if the receivers knew how to catch the ball. Retire TOB, but I am okay with Glennon. Without him we would have never beaten FSU.
Looks like TOB has retired on the job. He’s just looking to rest and vest.
