Pack picks up Top 10 Anthony Barber!!!
The 2013 Mark Gottfried-led NC State recruiting train has officially left the station!!
The Wolfpacker is reporting that NC State has landed a commitment from senior Hampton (Va.) High senior point guard, Anthony Barber. Barber is ranked by Rivals.com at the #9 overall player and the #3 point guard in the country. Barber picked the Wolfpack over Kansas and Alabama after also earning scholarship offers from “Virginia, Virginia Tech, Providence, Florida State and Connecticut,” said The Wolfpacker.

I have a good feeling about Barber right now
Pay attention, folks!
The following is from The Wolfpacker’s story:
“His speed is electric, and he makes it even tougher to deal with because he changes gears and has tremendous body control,” said Rivals.com recruiting analyst Eric Bossi in a past evaluation. “When he’s shooting with confidence – particularly 12- to 17-foot pull-ups – there just aren’t any high school guards who can stay in front of him.”
The 6-foot 3/4, 168-pound Barber, who goes by the nickname “Cat,” arrived for his third official visit – Kansas and Louisville were his first two – late Thursday night and was able to meet with the coaches and his future teammates. The NC State football team hosts South Alabama tonight at Carter-Finley Stadium.
Barber joins NC State’s potential star-studded backcourt, which includes 2012 McDonald’s All-American’s Tyler Lewis and Rodney Purvis, who play point guard and shooting guard respectfully. Current junior point guard Lorenzo Brown could also return, but could be a strong early 2013 NBA draft candidate with an expected good season. LSU transfer Ralston Turner will also be eligible on the wing next year, and is an accomplished long-range shooter
Barber, who was a standout for the Boo Williams traveling program, was first offered by NC State on May 3, 2011.
The current scholarship configuration and scholarship spacing of NC State’s Basketball program is as follows:
Senior Class
(1) Scott Wood (Wing)
(2) Richard Howell (PF)
Junior Class
(3) CJ Leslie (PF)
(4) Lorenzo Brown (PG/SG)

Great job by the coaching staff as they continue to pull in top players–4 and 5 stars. Our head coach isn’t a believer in taking the bottom of the barrel and “coaching them up” if you can get top talent to begin with. TOB is a loser and could not recruit a 5 star if it was his brother. Until we get someone who can attract football talent we will continue to be a joke.
^ TOB could have all 4/5 star rosters. He’d still suspend half of them and kick the other half out of his program. Recruiting is only one of many problems. Running the cleanest program in America b/c, well, just b/c, is one that could easily be corrected and cost us several games throughout his tenure.
Barber is a HUGE recruit and will be the first of many top 100. If Purvis plays this year, there is also a potential chance he’s first round material too. This is an extremely important class, and to land a top 10 recruit this early, is terrific news.
Mark’s Sweet 16 run has given him major credibility on the recruiting front. Coupled with top notch facilities, our future looks bright, better wear shades.
Having highly rated recruits is one thing, but having highly rated point guards is a whole other level. All signs point to to higher achievements in the coming years with the tools to be champions.
btw – football and basketball recruiting are not analogous.
Jones, so you think TOB is a loser? He happens to have the highest bowl winning percentage of any active FBS level coach. He has taken us to bowls the last two years and won both. He has a 12 and 2 record at home over the last two years. He has not lost to the holes since he arrove in Raleigh. He is well respected and runs a clean program that plays with class and doesn’t embarrass the university or its alumni. We are currently 2 and 1 and all goals for the year are still in reach. Just maybe you don’t know what the hell you are talking about.
+ 1
The way Gotts recruiting
We have Thornwell and wainwright up for bat , with graham somewhere in the ether waiting to commit again (and stay committed) and we have Washington woodson meeks anya. and then the crown jewel Randle.. Hmm. If we can just put down three more of ANY of the guys this is gonna be a hard class to beat.
