Pack picks up Top 10 Anthony Barber!!!

The 2013 Mark Gottfried-led NC State recruiting train has officially left the station!!

The Wolfpacker is reporting that NC State has landed a commitment from senior Hampton (Va.) High senior point guard, Anthony Barber. Barber is ranked by Rivals.com at the #9 overall player and the #3 point guard in the country. Barber picked the Wolfpack over Kansas and Alabama after also earning scholarship offers from “Virginia, Virginia Tech, Providence, Florida State and Connecticut,” said The Wolfpacker.

I have a good feeling about Barber right now

Pay attention, folks!

The following is from The Wolfpacker’s story:

“His speed is electric, and he makes it even tougher to deal with because he changes gears and has tremendous body control,” said Rivals.com recruiting analyst Eric Bossi in a past evaluation. “When he’s shooting with confidence – particularly 12- to 17-foot pull-ups – there just aren’t any high school guards who can stay in front of him.”

The 6-foot 3/4, 168-pound Barber, who goes by the nickname “Cat,” arrived for his third official visit – Kansas and Louisville were his first two – late Thursday night and was able to meet with the coaches and his future teammates. The NC State football team hosts South Alabama tonight at Carter-Finley Stadium.

Barber joins NC State’s potential star-studded backcourt, which includes 2012 McDonald’s All-American’s Tyler Lewis and Rodney Purvis, who play point guard and shooting guard respectfully. Current junior point guard Lorenzo Brown could also return, but could be a strong early 2013 NBA draft candidate with an expected good season. LSU transfer Ralston Turner will also be eligible on the wing next year, and is an accomplished long-range shooter

Barber, who was a standout for the Boo Williams traveling program, was first offered by NC State on May 3, 2011.

The current scholarship configuration and scholarship spacing of NC State’s Basketball program is as follows:

Senior Class
(1) Scott Wood (Wing)
(2) Richard Howell (PF)

Junior Class
(3) CJ Leslie (PF)
(4) Lorenzo Brown (PG/SG)
(5) Jordan Vandenberg (C) (Redshirt)

Sophomore Class
(6) Thomas de Thaey (PF)
(7) Ralston Turner (Wing) – transfer from LSU sits out 2012-2103

Freshman Class
(8) Tyler Lewis (PG)
(9) Rodney Purvis (PG/SG) hopefully
(10) TJ Warren (F)

2013 Commits
(11) Anthony Barber (PG)
(12) Open – center target
(13) Open – wing target
(1) Departure of Scott Wood
(2) Departure of Richard Howell
(3) Projected departure of CJ Leslie
(4) Potential departure of Lorenzo Brown

:>) I thought we couldn’t compete with the big national programs in recruiting! At least that’s what Foulup always said! Gott & Co. are looking pretty good for a second year staff at ol’ NCSU!

So what do we know about his high school? Hampton High seems like a big public school, right? He’s not part of the first graduating class?

The funny think is Hampton is by some accounts actually the oldest public school. Wiki quote ” Hampton High School is the oldest public school in the U.S.A. as it evolved directly from the Syms-Eaton Academy, which combined two of the earliest schools in America.”

My wife, being a ‘Crabber’, had mentioned that to me once or twice.

Great news… with the potential *gulp* 7 open scholarships next year (Lo, please keep that number down at 6), we absolutely have to have a top-notch class full of guys ready to play.

    Great start…

    Great pickup.
We have some sick talent but need some depth and size.
Though frankly I feel speed is far more important than size in basketball.

Great news. of course crappy KU fans and LU fans are spreading rumors now, about how he stole something on his Trip to LU, and that’s why he committed bc everyone else backed off. smh why can’t people be grateful losers.

I admittedly don’t follow high school players but I’m glad I can tune in here to get the bottom line. Hopefully his commitment this early will help us get a quality big man to replace Howell (and Painter).

I don’t understand the chart as according to ESPN.com, he’s #11 in their top 100.

Hopefully he keeps his ass out of trouble and doesn’t do anything stupid. Needs a mentor and Gott’s the man.

Can you tell me why he needs a mentor for and why you think he will be in trouble and/or do something stupid?
