2012 Football Schedule + D.J. Green Ruled Ineligible — 4:50 update with Green statement
The 2012 football schedule has been released, here is the story from gopack.com.
Aug 31 – vs Tennessee @Atlanta
Sept 8 – @ UConn
Sept 15 – South Alabama
Sept 22 – The Citadel
Sept 29 – @ Miami
Oct 6 – Florida St
Oct 20 – @ Maryland
Oct 27 – @ North Carolina
Nov 3 – Virginia
Nov 10 – Wake Forest
Nov 17 – @ Clemson
Nov 24 – Boston College
Also, bad news for the linebacking corp:
O’Brien also announced that linebacker D.J. Green has been declared ineligible by the NCAA for competition during the 2012 season. He will be allowed to practice with the team.
With Cole and Manning moving on and Green now ineligible, the Pack will have 3 new starters at linebacker.
Update:
Pack Pride has a statement from D.J. Green
“During the offseason, I wanted to gain weight so I took a supplement that someone from home gave to me. I wasn’t responsible enough to check with our coaches to make sure that it was something legal and now I’m paying the consequences. I apologize to my teammates, my coaches and to all the Wolfpack fans and hope that other players out there learn from my mistake. Even though it breaks my heart that I won’t be able to play next year, I will work hard every day in practice to help try to make my teammates better.”

If TOB can’t get that monkey off his back @ UMD on 10/20 he never will. Two weeks to prep for a team in turmoil.
Otherwise looks like a good schedule except for the fact that the first real home game isn’t until 10/6.
Three out of four November games at home is good news.
Great. With our LB situation, I see a lot of 10 yard halos existing around all receivers. Archer’d.
And for the 6th consecutive year, we start ACC play on the road.
Looking forward to that big BC game to end the season on “Rivalry Weekend”. #sarcasm
Honestly, the conference schedule looks pretty tough. I think we could struggle to hit 4-4.
yeah rye, I was just thinking at face value that looks like a pretty tough schedule
Also, any idea WHY Green is ruled ineligible by the NCAA?
This is odd… Green ineligible to play, but is allowed to practice.
I am curious as to what this is. Insufficient progress towards degree ?
Wow. Can he be so behind that the Spring semester and Summer school wouldn’t get him back in the hunt ?
Figured you guys were smarter than this. This DJ Green situation is just evidence that the NCAA has finally decided to take this whole UNC scandal seriously.
Isn’t that obvious?
6 straight years starting ACC play on the road is bull shit. I remember reading that TOB had sent a letter to the ACC about this after the schedule was released last year and it was #5 in a row. I guess they just dont give a damn.
6 straight years starting ACC play on the road is bull shit. I remember reading that TOB sent a complaint to the ACC after last years schedule was released and it was #5 in a row.
I guess they just dont give a damn who they piss off.
At least that first ACC road game is against a Coastal division opponent in week 5 (as opposed to being at the Wake Forest House of Horrors in week #2)… and it’s Miami. That’s a winnable game, but even if it isn’t, it’s no worse than playing it in week 12 IMO.
I’m not forgiving the ACC for making us start out the conference on the road. That does stink. But we gotta play it sometime. We could also be losing to FSU at home on week 5, which I think would be MUCH worse.
From the explanation, it sounds like PED’s.
Assuming that Green’s explanation is accurate, I feel bad for the kid. Seems like more of a 3-4 game suspension territory (again, assuming the explanation is accurate). Hope he stays and works hard.
Agree that waiting until week five to start conference slate is a nice change. Schedule overall looks rather challenging, however. At least at face value.
You know, nowadays saying you mistakenly took a banned supplement is like saying you have no idea smoking is bad for your lungs.
Would that it were, Wuf. 1st time positive is a loss of season, no ifs ands or buts.
Karl Hess had him ejected for wearing red.
Thoughts:
No Duke again, we have played the acc worst football team the least since we went to divisions.
After big game in Atlanta, ACC puts us on the road to UConn.
Six straight years of opening ACC play on the road and 3 out of four first ACC games on road. Fire Swofford Now!
And of course we on the road the week before having to go on the road to UNC.
ACC office does all it can to stick it to us!
I had one thought looking at this schedule: October could either be a really GOOD month or a really BAD month, depending on the results. If I could pick any 3 games on the schedule that I want the Pack to win the most, it would be those three games. Those are the 3 I find myself getting fired up for no matter what kind of season State is having.
9-3 overall. Losses to FSU, Tenn and Clemson. Better on offense and about the same or worse on defense.
The Heels will suck on it real big and I mean real big. All of Butche’s bad apples are gone and with it no defense and to match no offense 4-8 for the Heels. We are gonna knock the Fudge packins out of Mr. Bryn Renner.
So, Larry Fedora tweets “244 days” yesterday (@coachfedora), which turns out to be the date of the State / UNX game. What? I thought we weren’t their rival.
I shudder at the thought of next year’s linebacking. Ugh.
Green: “I will work hard every day in practice to help try to make my teammates better.”
Like you, COWDOG, I didn’t realize that a player who is ruled ineligible can still practice.
“I shudder at the thought of next year’s linebacking. Ugh”
Maybe that’s why we saw the Bear 46 in the Bowl game.
Sometimes a 42 just ain’t quite enough.
“someone from home”
is looking real bad
right now.
I’ll give green credit for admitting the mistake. I hate to say it but peds don’t bother me that much.
