The New & Improved [Updated 11:00]
As you can see, some pretty drastic changes have made their way to SFN. Firstly, we’d like to congratulate the winner of the banner/logo design contest, Dustin Rhodes for his contribution. As promised, a gift card has been sent to him on behalf of O3 Strategies.
Here’s some other things you may want to check out.
We’ve included a new integration with Flickr allowing the community to share photos with eachother. We see this as a great addition, especially on gamedays to get some great shots that we might not have otherwise seen. It’s also great for our out of town viewers to still get as much “feel” of the game through your work.
- Photo community. If you have a Flickr account, integration and sharing is easy. Browse to our Flickr group page and register to be a part. You can then use photos from your photostream to add to the group. This will automatically get updated with the 9 most recent right here on SFN. Although tailgate photos are welcomed, lets keep the photos as G-rated as possible. We encourage everyone to share and contribute to the community, so adding a new media enables us to take that to the next level.
- Pagination that works. Comments are now (functionally) paginated. No more loading 80,000 comments at a time!
- Easier backtracking. Browsing past entries is now easier with our archives page and the navigation up top.
- Mobile viewing. Check out SFN on your iPhone or smartphone. The iPhone version is a little buggy but works overall. We’ll iron that out as time goes. Let us know what you think!
- Registration issues. We’ve been hearing some complaints that folks will register but never receive the email password. Hopefully this is remedied but if you have this issue, please let us know!
- We will also be rolling out more features as time goes by, so stay tuned.
UPDATE 11:00: The blogroll has been temporarily moved from the sidebar to the top navigation (very top). The blogroll, being as expansive as it is, was hindering page load times. Until we figure out a way around this, all of the external links are listed on the blogroll page.
Bug Fixes
Keep the info coming in the comments section
- Fixed one of the banner issues in IE6. IE6 still looks terrible. Microsoft is ending support for that archaic browser but we’ll try to maintain support for our IE6 viewers
- The Blog Roll has been reestablished in the sidebar for those of you looking for links to external sites.
- The “popular” tab is now narrowed down to popular posts within the last month.
- iPhone users will now be able to see the comments on posts.
- IE6 is a bit more presentable now (still, you should upgrade)

Gotta admit, I reaaaaaallllly like the new banner… and pretty cool design, may take a few days to get used to, but overall great work guys! much, MUCH appreciated
As with any big changes, it’ll take a few days to get used to, but we think you’ll find navigating SFN much easier and much more efficient.
Glad you like the design. I certainly want to give a shoutout to Dustin for the great job he did with the banner.
This site looks infinitely better… outstanding job. It is also much easier to navigate the content of the site. Personally, I love the banner.
You guys should get an icon so I can put it in my bookmarks toolbar (I usually come here twice a day).
Thank you so much for adding mobile browsing support – It was rather frustrating the way the previous version’s format was displayed.
Great look – love the logo, and particularly like the new cleaner overall look. It was a change I didn’t know we needed, but definite improvement.
New site looks great. Just a heads up. One issue I see on my page… the dropdown on the tabs “SFN Stuff” and “Miscellaneous” is covered up by the backpain ad.
damn boyz,
I didn’t have anything to do with it, but the new site is chillaxing.
very nice work.
I love it! And the site seems to be loading much faster on my Blackberry. Excellent work!
The banner and navigation links don’t line up well at all on my system, Firefox 3.0.10 on Mac OS X 10.5.6. Here’s a screen shot:

I like the new banner–especially showcasing #44 and #17. I look forward to getting used to the new format over the next few days. Again, thanks SFN for all that you do!
Looks great. I was going to put a small complaint that it doesn’t scale width-wise for widescreen monitors but the more I look at it, it doesn’t feel necessary as it’s light years ahead of how the site used to look like on a widescreen.
Congrats Dustin…nice logo. Thanks to o3 Strategies for the new look.
Couple of comments:
1) The pages seem to take longer to load. Is this my imagination?
2) The new logo gets mostly covered up by a different banner.
I’m running XP and IE6
Are the links to other web sites still here? I can’t find them.
The new design is great. Love the banner.
4in12, Added the “blogroll” over on the right now.
Trip, we didnt’ want to scale width-wise because extending the width of paragraphs sometimes makes it harder to read. I’m running dual 24″ monitors and I like to run my browser maximized. Sometimes reading can be difficult. Glad you like it though.
g6bentgrass, what browser/OS are you running when you have the issue with the navigation going under the backpain ad? Did you click the backpain ad while you were at it?
you guys need to link with Facebook and Twitter to boot. Would be nice to get instant tweets on new posts and since most folks are on facebook too…
We’re working on it. We’ve looked into Facebook Connect allowing you to use your Facebook account as credentials for commenting and participating here at SFN. We didn’t want to be too ambitious and incorporate all these new features with the new site all at once. We’ll be rolling them out as we iron all of the current issues.
Excellent evolution of the site!
Not only is this the best place for Wolfpack information it now is the best looking. Great work!
Boy, that’s service! Instant upgrades on Mother’s Day Sunday! I think you guys might need to get a life
.
Will you be reinstating quick link to Recent Comments?
The new site looks amazing. Thank you for all of your hard work guys.
Mobile support is outstanding. Outstanding. Thanks for that.
love the banner, especially the jimmy-v-running-to-hug-someone silhouette.
Zwolf,
I have tried the new site on my new Macbook 13 Unibody, running OS X 10.5.?. . . Using both FF 3.0.10 and the new beta v.4 Safari–which is AWESOME, even though that might sound insane–the site looks PERFECT.
. . . Just my experience.
p.s. I just got a new Dell Studio XPS 13 (loaded to the hilt), but my gut said “send it back and get the Aluminum Macbook 13 2.4ghz (also loaded to the hilt).” I haven’t used a Mac since college–I actually bought it at the bookstore–but, I will NEVER return to Wormdows Vista, 7 or otherwise.
You have to touch the Mac to fully appreciate it’s beauty and engineering. . . OK, I’ll shut up.
Great Job on the banner and all the hard work on the site!!!
