Derrick Favors Set To Announce, NCSU Not In His Finalists???

dfavors01Atlanta Journal Constitution: Derrick Favors Set To Announce his College Choice

South Atlanta center Derrick Favors, the No. 1 basketball recruit in Georgia, will announce is college decision Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., according to his high school coach, Michael Reddick.

His finalists are Georgia Tech, Georgia and Memphis.

This is the first mention in the media I have heard where NC State is not in Favor’s list of finalists.  There is some confusion, however, as to whether the Wolfpack is still in it with Favors, as Dave Telep writes on Scout.com

Scout.com’s No. 1 player is down to Georgia Tech, Georgia and North Carolina State. The suspense ends on Wednesday.

Interestingly Favors announcement will come thirty minutes prior to Georgia Tech playing Duke on ESPN.

Wow. That has to be a mistake. Seems like we would have heard something along these lines before now.

iirc, the AJC tends not to mention us whenever they bring up his recruitment. This is likely just another case of this. Not that I’m optimistic we’ll get him, just that I don’t think that they know anything we don’t.

It’s worth noting that the AJC has been short-siding us in his recruitment all along. Of course, they are closer to Favors and may have better sources.

I am concerned about the timing of it all – a 6:30 decision right before Tech plays Duke would appear to indicate that he’s going to commit to the Jackets.

^^I’m with choppack – not looking good for the Pack on this one.

So we can probably mark Favors off the list. We can probably mark Cousins off the list (since his was conditional interest).

    Wall or Nothing.

I think Wall is coming to State…not sure why, but I think he’s sees how bad we need a top PG, and how he could really “shine.”

I also think we’re going to add another 4/5 for a very nice 5-man class. Although only two additional bigs (7’1″ kid from N.J. and Cousins) are listed on Scout, we’ve got several more we are watching.

Cousins still may go to UAB, but adding him with Wall would be very nice also.

I just looked at both of those articles, and State is named in both of them as a finalist.

Oh well, I don’t have espnEWE.

    It’s justin…blur…skip….tv for me.

The Pack is not looking too good, NOBODY seems to want the ball, and NOBODY wants to set up in good defensive POSITION to keep the ball away from FSU’s basket.

AND, Sidney Lowe didn’t look very upset, or very happy, or very anything, at the timeout. Just another routine time out I guess.

LRM, I hate to disagree, but a few very good BB players ARE exactly what this program needs, AND HAS BEEN NEEDING, FORE-V-E-R!!!

From what I have been able to discern, we definitely aren’t getting Favors.

Wow, a historic ACC losing streak, and the recruits are starting to back off of this train wreck. One good thing that could come of this…if it gets bad enough, and Lee Fowler doesn’t have the cajones to do something about it a la Baddour and Doherty, maybe we get a two for one sacking? Nah…too much to wish for…

According to the AJC article, Favors’ coach, Reddick, is trying to get him to announce at the ESPN SportsZone in Buckhead in Atlanta on Wednesday, but Reddick does not know where Favors is going. Also, in the Telep article, Reddick said that Wednesday night is the only open night for Favors between games and practice.

Make of it what you will.

Honestly, if you were Favors, would you come here? Who wants to play for a coach who can’t coach. Why would anybody want to come to a program that is so f#$%ed up that our coach and Fowler think they are doing a good job. A losing season, don’t worry, we will be better next year. Honestly, how long have you been saying that. This is getting pointless. I am tired of my friends saying, you said that last year. I think I am going to start saying, we will be better in 5 years, that way I only repeat my self every 5 years.

Not that it’s likely to matter at this point, but the local sports radio in Athens GA has NC State listed with UGA and GT instead of Memphis.
