I really thought the Chargers had it! Phillip looked good coming off knee surgery, though it would have been nice to see him target his wide receivers a little more. Carolina’s defense is much improved over last year, so I don’t think losing the opening game to them in a last second TD pass by the Ageless Wonderkin Jake Delhome.
Jericho will LOVE having Brett in NY. He finally has the potential (not to mention the quarterback) to make him a truly undeniable fantasy start!
That was a huge win for the Panthers without Steve Smith. The running game was strong, Delhomme had plenty of time in the pocket, and the Panthers had some guys step at WR and TE. Most importantly the defense played really well.
Let us not forget Mario’s 2 sack 1 FF against the Steelers, who throw the ball like 3 times a game. Peyton Manning has already begun sharting his pants.
The Panthers look EXTREMELY good and I now don’t think that destruction of Washington was a fluke. The O-line is NASTY and that 1-2 punch at running back is going to give teams a fit. PR also looked good in this game. His last drive was a thing of beauty and the announcers (on the radio) were even referencing his ability to escape during his time at NCSU.
JC is going to put up huge numbers with Brett. Don’t think so? Remember a guy named Antonio Freeman? Better go check his stats and I think JC is a better wideout.
If Mario had ANY help at all (no double teams) he would take over games.
I am extremely excited about the Panthers. Even when they were down 7-3, I told my wife and sister that they looked pretty damned awesome (for playing without their best player). Best of both worlds for me – Rivers plays well, but Panthers get the W.
I am pathetic enough to watch the preseason games, and Dante Rosario is very much the real thing. Kid can play.
Now that the sports media lost their #1 man-crush (Tom Brady), the fluffing of Favre will be even more focused and insufferable. NEWSFLASH – The Jets BARELY beat the 1-15 Dolphins, who have maybe 4-5 players who could start for any other team in the NFL.
Make sure you read the Kissing Suzy Kolber blog this morning (google KSK). Hilarious, if a bit evil.
It was hard to pull against Phillip, but I want to see the Panthers finally get that Super Bowl ring! Game 1 was fantastic! My wife was yelling at me to come to the dinner table, but I wasn’t leaving with 2 minutes to go!
Favre is the very reason I took Cotchery higher than he should have been in my fantasy league. Brett has a history of making stars out of average talent (see Donald Driver) and I know he’ll do the same for J-Co.
I don’t have the heart to pull against The Man with the Golden Arm. More than anything, I’d like to see Phillip Rivers finally win a Championship. The Panthers would be a nice second choice.
Cotchery looked really good yesterday. Though he’s not the fastest guy on the field, he always seem to be open. Over the last two seasons, I think he’s made Laverneous Coles look overrated.
Mario is monster. It is fun to see him approach a quarterback going through checkdowns in a bad humour.
Cotchery provided me with the most entertaining quote of the season when asked if he was worried about the velocity of Favre’s passes: “Naw, I’ve been used to [Methusalah] Testeverde.”
That says a lot; one way or the other– either Favre lost some zip or that old guy was really bringing it.
Rivers played very well. As a Panthers fan, it was frustrating seeing him sidestep the rush JUST enough to thread the needle downfield.
Thankfully, Jake Delhomme had enough fourth-quarter mojo to get the win. The Panthers had to have a split in these first two games and I think most thought that next week would be the more likely win.
They bottled up LT fairly well. They’ve gotta get better in the red zone.
Panthers vs Chargers was a preview for this year’s Super Bowl.
I have a question for all of the sports-radio hosts in the country. Obviously, the big story of the day was Tom Brady tearing up his knee. Obviously, the #2 story was Brett Favre.
But there were actually about 20 compelling stories from this weekend. Is there really THAT much to say about Brady? He tore up his knee. He’s out for the year. THe Patriots are not the top team in the league now.
TURN. THE. PAGE.
If you can’t come up with ANYTHING else to talk about on your THREE HOUR SHOW, why do you have a talk show to begin with??
Just makes you wonder how we got all those great players on the NC State team during that time period. Rivers, COtchery, Mario, Holt(s), et al. And I wonder who on our current team will make the big game? Any ideas?
From the current starters, I doubt any will play in the NFL. Too early to tell on the rookies. There was a time when I thought Anthony Hill had NFL ability, but it’s been so long since I’ve seen it that I can’t imagine he’ll catch anyone’s eye.
Still, I’m always amazed at who makes it and who doesn’t. I remember being completely shocked that Gary Downs not only got drafted, but played rather well for the Giants for as long as he did.
And I really thought Jesse Campbell and Mike Reid were going to be stars. Campbell played for awhile, but never really stood out.
Great to see Phillip do well, he’ll do fine the rest of the year. Too early to predict possible Super Bowl preview, but the Panthers are back, if only for a game. The Wolfpack is what it is this year. Redshirts abound for the “promise” to come. We’ll have our share of NFL choices before it’s over. Interesting note on the ACC game of the week I believe. Said that the ACC had the most NFL drafts of any conference this past year. For a conference that’s sucking wind, not a bad recruiting tool. Is it slow to start the week? I haven’t seen much discussion about the weekend, our game or others. How ’bout Md. giving Middle Tenn. a memory?
They talk about Brady because, well, they need their fix that they won’t get for the next 16 weeks.
Hate to see anyone get hurt, but if Brady was going to go down it would have been fitting if it was on a pass attempt up 20 in the 4th quarter…

Did you overlook Nate Irving or do you think he’s too small at 6-1 and 215 lbs?
I expect to see DaAndre Morgan go 1st or 2nd round in the draft and Ted Larsen to go in the middle rounds and play after his rookie year (ala Sean Locklear).
Bo’s question. I see Nate Irving making an impact on the pro level. I think there are a few pro players on this years team (Javon Walker(i know he is not playing this year, but i still consider him as on the this years team) & Jammuel Simmions & Willie Young)- but only one impact player.
Does anyone know where we can get a game summary like we used to before GoPack went commercial and are afraid somebody might enjoy the Pack without paying for the privilege?
I saw some numbers on the field that would be interesting to see how much they played and also what the individual stats were for the defense.
Favre/J-Co is going to be lethal, but with the Pats now cast aside they may want to take note of the Bills — they looked very good.
Panthers are going to dominate the NFC this year. Too bad we don’t get the Cowboys this regular season. What a performance. Great game for P-Riv as well, though it took him 3 quarters to finally get going.
No team with Jake as QB is going to dominate. They might make the playoffs and super bowl ala 2003 but they certainly never dominated that year.
It would have been a great story if Farve had come out of retirment to take over for Tom Brady. That would have been a hell of a story. He would have finally had the opporutnity to throw the ball to Randy Moss.
Irving is a little small and it’s a little early to talk about the NFL. I don’t see Larsen as an NFL player at all. Not in any way, shape or form.
Morgan has the straight-line speed, but I want to see more. I certainly don’t see him as a Day One pick right now.
I know some folks are looking at Willie Young, but I think he’ll have to have a big year. We’ll see though…
