NC State

“I also think that if Sidney Lowe were not an NC State graduate, the screams for his dismissal would be overwhelming.”
Bingo.
Noah – The only reason I am not in the same place as you is this -
Last year, Sidney did a great job of coaching an undermanned team. I truly thought he called plays and sets that helped with scoring, in a way that Herb never could. That’s why this year is such a head scratcher. Sidney’s performance alone has done a 180 degree turn.
Which is the real Sidney? I dunno, and I suppose that’s why I think he should get one more year.
Noah, we lost 9 straight in 1991-92 under Les Robinson. That streak was bookended by wins over Carolina (in which we scored 99 points each time). A season sweep of the Heels would have made this season a lot more palatable. As far as I can tell from scanning the media guide that 9-game losing streak is the longest in school history. We could tie that with a loss on Thursday.
4th wheel in a 4-wheel state. ok.
12th out of 12 in a weak league. ok.
pressure on TOB to save the AD.
“are you ready for some football?”
And then, of course, there are the fans of other teams showing up.
I would, however, like to congratulate UNC for beating the cheaters in Durham.
Our guards are not very good and until that changes we can expect more losing. We have others flaws as well which adds to our woes. I’m not upset with Sidney, but 12th is unacceptable. He/the program needs to have a great summer in all areas. Those posters who see the larger problem are right on.
I mean really, is there anyone out there, that after this season, with the players we have and how bad we played, is there anybody who has confidence in Sid for next year?
I still have trouble even believing that we were this bad this year. I am really scared for our program, but still hopefull.
^^^^“I also think that if Sidney Lowe were not an NC State graduate, the screams for his dismissal would be overwhelming.”
^^^^Bingo.
Except, he didn’t “graduate” from N.C. State. He played for N.C. State. For some reason (he was here 4 years, right???) he “graduated” from some other school in June 2006 — 23 years after 1983.

Could Atsur have been basketball’s version of football’s “Philip Rivers”
Just saying……….
If things do not get better soon I am worried that they may change the name of “THE GAME” from the Les Robinson Invitational to The Wolfpack Invitational.
This season has gone from maybe having a chance to compete for an ACC title to maybe we can finish with a winning record.
We have fallen WAY off. Sad.
On a positive note, Julius Mays led his team to a win in the playoffs yesterday, scoring a layup at the buzzer:

Javi g was a three star coming into last yr.
Javi was a two star, but got bumped up to three stars when bigger schools took an interest in him.
mafpack you post (on 3/8 at 6:07pm) is dead on. There’s nothing left to do but support the school. If Sid’s still awful in a few years, he’ll be shown the door. Fowler won’t pull the trigger, but I think the big donors at the WPC will force him out, the same way they forced Amato out.
If message boards existed 35 years ago, I wonder how many WTF comments would’ve been posted about the recruitment of Monte Towe. I can imagine a few “we land the best big man in the ACC, in Burleson, and the best high school prospect a year later, in the country, in Thompson, and we stick these guys with an undersized (to be generous) PG from Indiana? WTF’s Sloan thinking…”
This year has been awful. The effort the team showed has been lacking. Hopefully folks have learned from their mistakes and will do better.
Stay positive, but rational. If things are off to a bad start next year, I think we should show Sid the door.
We lost our starting point guard to graduation. Then lost our starting point guard again to injury. This forced us to start 2 true freshmen. What did you expect?
What did you expect?
Some effort. Some hustle. Some heart. A consistent defensive presence now that the thin roster excuse is gone. This season’s results go further than inexperienced point guard play. Losing Degand hurt, sure, but we went 4-4 in the first half of the ACC without him and then went 0-8 in the second half.
the head scratching over what happened to this team has a simple answer. let me tell you some things i saw at the home fsu game. there was a substitution made where ben was called off and jj put back in,this was after ben had made a basket and had a stop at the other end. when the buzzer sounded costner spun around saw what was happening turned and screamed FUCK as loud as he could. later, i saw fells come off the court after being sub’d for and as he walked to the bench lowe held up his knuckls for a bump. fells took his left hand and put it behind his back and plopped his ass down as far at the end of the bench he could get. so tell me what the problem is? i think that type of shit has gone on all year and has escalated to full blow rebelion.
if Sid is awful in a few years? Please define “few”
Nonsense as well as the pt guard situation Sid did know Askur was graduating? Degand was not and is not the answer him ,javi and mj all equal a half a pt guard.
It was the responsibility of the coaching staff to fill voids etc……..look around the league see who is coming back and what we have back? I think it is time to move on and start fresh. Sid has lost 8 in a row and could easily be more he cannot coach with or against the other coaches in the league. We have become and are a joke.
and for the rest of you shutins stop this talk about JJ in the lottery ,the only Lottery he will be in is the one if he goes to the 7/11 and picks out his numbers
what did I expect?
An effort, accountability, hustle,an offense and defense, fundementals,an out of bounds play once in awhile, some improvment ,the bottom line is this team just keeps getting worse.
Yes we have a clown of an AD,BOTS that don’t care as well.
Good link from Rochester! My two favorite pieces in the article were:
“I was taking it down Scott Wood’s side because, if his defender switched off, Scott would have been open and I guarantee he would have made the shot,” Mays said. “And if he didn’t, I knew I could go straight to the hole.
And:
Freshwater then stole the ball and shit a layup for a 36-33 advantage at the 4:25 mark.
I’m not kidding on the second one — no editing!!
Both Mays and Wood seem to be winners. I like that.
Excuse my being a little off topic, but how would you expect the dark cloud currently hanging over Wolfpack athletics in general to impact TOB/football in the long run if nothing changes? Seems to me that the effects will eventually drag it down too as prospects will see the overall poor management and sophmoric approach of the athletics department.
kyjelly, I’ll happily give Sid to the end of next year and pending how the ’09 and ’10 recruiting classes are coming, i.e. years 4 and 5, decide whether to extend him beyond next year or not. If results lackluster next year and the recruiting classes aren’t shaping up to be program changers, let him go.
“We lost our starting point guard to graduation. Then lost our starting point guard again to injury. This forced us to start 2 true freshmen. What did you expect?”
This is yet another silly argument.
Think about the players who have left uncch EARLY – not just on schedule.
How much has that hurt them?
Do they complain about XXX graduating – or leaving early? No. They reload and whip everyone’s ass, no matter which players are left.
Excuses are for losers.
Is it really fair to compare Wake this year to Wake last year? Although caused by a tragedy, they may have actually gotten an upgrade in the coaching department.
“What did you expect?”
Well I sure as hell didn’t expect us to become the laughing stock of the ACC. Can you honestly say that you did?
Any way you try to slice it, this has been one hell of a bad coaching job.
