NC State Finishes Dead Last In Basketball- 12th Seed In ACC Tourney- Wake 78, NC State 67
Lets compare and contrast the last 12 months for Wake and NC State:
Wake Forest
- Lose leading scorer, 3rd team All ACC Player (Visser)
- Head Coach Skip Prosser Dies of a Heart Attack
- Asst coach Dino Gaudio fills in as Head coach
- Bring in 28th Ranked Recruiting Class
- Picked 11th in Preseason
- Finish 7-9 in the ACC
NC State
- Lose starting point Guard (Atsur)
- Bring in 17th ranked Recruiting Class, Including 13th best player
in the nation - Picked 3rd in the Preseason
- Finish 4-12 and dead last in the ACC.

You think fans do not have a say in wolfpack sports. Well please see what starts happening when people decide to blindly stop supporting a team through money.
It’s the money and that is where our voices are heard.
“Les Robinson didn’t even finish 12th!!!”
Mat Doherty didn’t even finish 12th!!!
Chew on that one.
Seriously…I’ll ask the question 1 more G.D. time…
Is there any fan base in the nation that’s getting less for more than NC State University???? Any?????
Agreed WP1995 – unfortunately I don’t see the average fan bailing out completely any time soon, nor do I see our very wealthy alumni boosters calling it quits either. So where does that leave us?
W.F. has a new coach-several freshmen playing-lost 4 in a row and a 11pt loss-4-12 record is the best we can do??????????? Blame goes around for everyone-coaches,players,A.D.,University Administration.I know anyone pulling for the Pack in the last 15years(younger fans)must be so frustrated-At least I was able to go games in the 70′s as a teen and was in school at State in 1983-I knew with it was like to win championships(YES EVEN AGAINST UNX&DOOK)SORRY GUYS I WISH I COULD CHANGE THIS FOR US QUICKLY, BUT IT AIN’T GOING TO HAPPEN THAT SIMPLE.IT’S GOING TO THAT A LOT OF HARD WORK FROM EVERYONE WHEN YOU ARE THIS LOW(4-12)STARTING AT THE TOP-IF YOU DON’T REALLY CARE ABOUT NCSU ATHLETEICS-PLEASE LEAVE!!!!!!!!I WILL HELP WORK WITH THE ONES WHO CARE TO GET BACK TO THE TOP.YES WE CAN GET THERE IF YOU HAVE HOPE-DON’T GIVE UP DON’T EVERY GIVE UP AND I STAND BY THAT STATEMENT.GO PACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
General Note:
We aim for intelligent conversations around here. I have deleted several posts that fall well below our goal. If you want to post some ignorant rant, then your post will likely last longer at several other places around the internet.
Poor attendance makes a loud statement that can’t be ignored. And it has started this year, to include disappointingly empty seats at the UNC game.
“This has had it’s ups and downs. We had some good wins – at Seton Hall and Villanova, in Florida – but for whatever reason, after getting 4-4, in conference, the wheels just came off.”
None of these teams have a winning conference record.
Seems like Lowe doesn’t allow our team to flow like he did in our first few games under him. Granted it was against weak out of conference teams, but we rarely push the ball up the court and look for easy transition baskets. This was one of the things that the current players were excited about when Lowe got here…. up-tempo basketball. I think we are even more rigid than we were under Sendek. We look to run 1 or 2 plays every time up. There is no room for players to create on their own and when they do they force it. Sendek’s system had so many facets it took yrs for players to get in to try it, but they had options. Now there are so few options our opponents are quick to shut us down.
We never utilized Grant/Fells in the open court as much as we should have.
Lets hope that Lowe brings in some talent that he has enough faith in to run what he wants to b/c he didn’t have any faith in this team.
Highstick-I agree with most of what you’re said-but they must have intelligent reasoning for some of their rants.Apathy and frustration usually comes with the type of season we are having. There is plenty of blame for the state of N.C.State basketball to go around.
Anyone who saw us lose to N.O. and then to E.C.U. should’ve known we weren’t going to be very good this year. I can’t put my finger on it, but I see a difference between certain coaches’ bad starts and this one. I remember Sid complaining about playing ECU at ECU even before the game. Sorry, that’s not a good state of mind for a team, and it showed. Reminds me of when Bilas said K walked in one day when they were playing some Ivy league team they were expected to beat, and told the team, “This is the most important game of the year.” and the team thought he was crazy. But he said, “EVERY game is important.” I just don’t see ANY sense of urgency right now.
I think Sautz said it well — I wasn’t expecting the Final Four, but I did not expect to be last in the ACC either. I truly hope several players decide to transfer. No, we shouldn’t yank scholarships, but if some of these players don’t want to share time or have issues, they should leave for the better of everyone involved. If not, and these same guys are playing for this same coach, I do not see a big turnaround. Let’s see if we can turn it around in the tournament, but finishing LAST in the ACC with these players is just BAD. This is one of the worst seasons I can EVER remember.
Noah, I’d love to hear your thoughts….you’re being very quiet lately.
“I think we are even more rigid than we were under Sendek.”
There is no question that we are. Can’t even bring the ball half way up the floor before a “whistle” from Sid.
He has babied this team all year and surprise, it never grew up.
This team as a whole doesn’t have the speed or the athleteic ability(maybe for some the intelligent ability) to run out on the break. Not having a Big time PG or great shooters at the wing doesn’t help.
I can’t totally give up on Sid yet because he is one of us(Iknow!)Let’s just see how the ACCT goes. Football,Football,Football-Coach O’brein-please give us something to look forward to PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
turf- I disagree, I think that is what we have been told my Lowe, but I don’t think our talent is any different than the teams 3-12 in the ACC. The reason we don’t run on transition is b/c Lowe doesn’t allow it.
When Grant gets a rebound on the perimeter he takes it all the way. I don’t know if he has the green light or just doesn’t listen to the whistle.
It is similar to how we don’t run any sets of inbounds plays, there is no confidence in our team. I’m sorry, but if your coach doesn’t have confidence in you – then you won’t have confidence in yourself.
There is talent on our team, it needs direction. Do you think we would be playing the kind of weak ass defense if we had Coach K or Roy coaching this group?
Let me finish by saying that I don’t think Lowe should be fired. I do think he needs to re-evaluate his techniques and look for help from other coaches with more experience. If he thinks just by getting a player or two his fortunes will change, then he is in for a short career at NC State.

I totally agree with this statement.
wtf
If you saw the F.S.U. game(I was there-sitting with a along time winning coach-he commented how slow we looked-on offense&defense),sure Grant has both speed&ability(Sr.)he is just one of a couple on the team.Throwing in K or Roy in this situation does apply -with a bunch of Mc donald’s A.A.-Years of coaching experience in ACC.Coach Lowe has made some mistakes-noone thinks he hasn’t ,but to think he wouldn’t run if he had the ability -that can’t be true. There are other reasons this team is disfunctural-just wish I knew why(maybe even the coach staff would to).
Grant and Fells are extremely athletic players. JJ can run with any big man in the country. So what’s the problem?
Well, for one, we have two high school level point guards. For all of you Javi lovers, he got abused today by Teague, yes, a freshman.
I’ve said it before, we are the 4th wheel in our very own state. Wake has surpassed us, and will throttle us next year with what they have coming in.
Just for arguments sake, Does anyone believe Jed would pull the trigger on Lowe after year three even if it is as bad as this one?
I think we are in for the full five years and must hope that Sid makes a quantum leap in coaching 101 in the next two years.
Turf-
I agree there is something going on, but to finish 12th w/ the talent we have is more than a chemistry issue on the team. There is some poor coaching and/or game adjustments added on to the player issues. If it was just player issues, those would have been resolved by now. I haven’t seen any improvement since game 1 outside of the Duke game.
Javi has improved some, but overall our team has taken a step backwards.
By the way, I think Javi will be a big part of our team in a year or two. I think he has what it takes. He’s just been thrown to the fire too early.
But, darn it, I’m never gonna quit caring about State, no matter how bad my “parade gets rained on”! Maybe I’ll just have to care by myself though!
The only way any demands for excellence can be met is by protest, which means empty seats and/or bags on heads…
“For all of you Javi lovers, he got abused today by Teague, yes, a freshman.”
I love Javi for his spunk and tenacity; his game has got a ways to go – particularly on defense – for him to be a really solid ACC point guard … When Degand went down though, I thought poor little Javi would turn it over 20 times a game … he has no doubt improved tremendously w/ the ball throughout the season … defense, not so much – which is more than troubling b/c no one improved defensively throughout the season
As for Teague, he mostly abused Fergs and Fells … not that Javi did a great job defensively on Ish Smith
We’ll probably be picked 12th in the league going into the season next season or 11th at best; barring something unforeseen we’ll probably have trouble doing better than that type of finish … That said, the fans have a right to demand better play and effort than we’ve seen … My personal expectations for next season’s team will be low, but if I see more lethargic, effortless games then I will be on board the Sidney hotseat bandwagon
You know what makes a bad season worse?
Listening to cultists spam State fans.
And the vultures, of course, like the guy posting directly after me.
Forgive me if this has already been posted, but as best I can tell, we have tied the longest losing streak in our history. In 1967, we lost eight in a row as well. If we lose in the first round, we will truly be breaking new ground for futility.
I’ve said before that I think Lowe should be fired. I would actually buy out his contract and let him resign so he can “spend more time with his family.” Nothing has changed on that front. I don’t think he’s a good coach. I don’t think he’s going to become a good coach.
There’s a lot wrong with this team. I don’t think “talent” is one of those things. I also think that if Sidney Lowe were not an NC State graduate, the screams for his dismissal would be overwhelming.
