I still think Sidney has a high ceiling and knows what it takes to compete at the level we want. It’s really not surprising for it to take a few seasons of disjointed basketball to transition from the Princeton offense to a more traditional offense, with point guards and big men that rebound and shit.

Yes the 2009 recruiting class is key. I’ve seen no indication that a coach cannot recruit a top class while his team is playing ugly. I’ve seen a few situations where a coach was unable to recruit because his job status was questionable.

Fans have a hard time seeing the big picture.

Not to many positives for Sid. He is obviously not able to get high star players to play together with JJ, Grant, and Costner fueding it all this year. And most likely they will all be gone. What hope is their that he can manage high profile recruits in the future if he could not get this years team to succeed with the talent he had. Just like Amato he has the talent but cannot coach it.

This is our AD’s hiring philosophy: Sit by the phone and hire the person who calls and says “I would like to coach your ________ program”. This is how the two top positions were filled in the last 3 years! His football coaching hire seems to be a decent-to-good one. Not so much for basketball…

Noah, what are the chances next time the phone rings, it could be coach Knight??

GG said post game that this game didn’t matter and he was right. I think the whole team knew this game didn’t matter and i guess they think they will just go on a run in the tourney..the only problem is you have to learn how to go on a run.

I am sure our coaches will be glad when this is over.

Nothing need be said. I just cam hear to click on some advertisements and I encourage everyone else to do so as well. SFN is about the only positive thing left with any kind of connection to NCSU athletics.

Sid now has two years under his belt. And my opinion is that Sid is not a very good basketball coach. He is being out coached by everyone in the league. If he begins to lose the recruiting war as well, he’ll be out in no time. One more year to get this program back to respectability, that’s it. He is not a good “in-game” coach as many claim. In fact, he’s poor. He was poor in the NBA and he’s been poor at the college level. Same goes for his assistants.

We, NC STATE UNIVERSITY, are last fucking place in the 12-team ACC. Pathetic any way you try to spin it. I’m done.

    ^ Absolutely inexcusable.

Every game matters. Every single one.

It’s called pride. If you don’t have the pride to try, just for the sake of doing the best you can do for yourself, for your team, for your university, and for your fans, you don’t deserve to have a scholarship.

And I don’t think Gavin is alone in thinking that way.

And I know that it’s the coach’s job to make sure that such an attitude is simply not allowed.

One last note – those who are optimistica bout next year because of Degand’s return… or Javi’s growth… or Tervor’s new minutes… haven’t watched enough basketball this year or in recent memory. None of those guys would start anywhere else in the ACC. Not one. I love some of those kids for their attitude and their effort (which stands in stark contrast to most of the team), but they’re not the guys who will lead us on NCAA tournament runs.

This team has pandemic issues – from both a talent and a coaching standpoint. Both have to be addressed. Whether Sid can fix both is a major question mark, particularly in light of what Gavin’s saying.

Which highlights the glaring hole we have had in the backcourt the past two years, with both talent and depth.

Fill that hole and things will get better.

I think the larger question that needs to be addressed is – how can we as a fanbase DEMAND athletic excellence across the board?

My jury is still out on Sidney, but let’s just say for the sake of argument, that the next two years suck like this one. Looking at our administration’s track record of accepting mediocrity or worse, the odds that Lowe would be fired are very slim, IMHO.

Somehow, we have to turn up the heat on Oblinger, the BofT, the WPC board, the Faculty Senate, etc. – to MAKE them DEMAND excellence again. Until we have an AD who does that, it is hard to hold individual sport coaches accountable.

I just don’t get why such a large school with a great, passionate fansbase settles for this crap.

Sid is a joke becuase he proved this year that he cannot win with talent( see Hickson, Costner, Grant, and Tracy Smith). This is going to be Amato part II where he can bring in good players but never gets to win. Sadly I think we will have to wait for another losing season for others to realize this.
Next year does not give me hope with mediocre players and a staff that cannot seem to bring a team together. I dont care how many Micky D all americans Sid can sign he will not be able to get them to win.

This reminds me of Amato and signing studs out of Florida. Yes he brought in talent but could not win.

Next year will be another losing season no doubt.

The People above Sidney Lowe are to blame for this MESS. I finally wrote this season off as a Learning experience for Myself a Few days ago after hearing Fowler’s interview.

    Season Timeline:

    1. I blamed the players(Early in the Season)
    2. I blamed Sidney Lowe(Just in the last few weeks)
    3. I blamed Lee Fowler and the people above him(In the Last few days)
    4. I blamed myself and wrote this season off as a learning experience for me.(You would think I would know better after all these years)

BC And UVA beat us head to head. End of story. Last place. Sorriest season I can ever rememeber from a Wolfpack team. Complete collapse.

Listened to G’man and the Packman on radio the other day, and they mentioned the ACC Basketball legacy that either UNC or Duke has been ranked in the Top 20 every time they have played since 1960.

We have literally written ourselves out of ACC significance.

I can’t imagine what anyone born in the last thirty years must think about NC State athletics and NC State basketball…

Amato’s problem and NCSU’s problem, post-Rivers, is awful QB play. Daniel Evan’s is our incumbent starter and he “wouldn’t be starting” at other ACC schools. Also, after Doc Holliday left, the recruiting in football went down significantly.

Engin was a smart, savvy, tough player, but wasn’t a natural point guard. He was smart enough to fill the role, but wasn’t going to break anyone down off the dribble or push tempo. After Atsur, we didnt’ have anyone at the PG position.

I thought our front court could cover up the lack of experience and talent at the PG position, but it didn’t happen.

This has had it’s ups and downs. We had some good wins – at Seton Hall and Villanova, in Florida – but for whatever reason, after getting 4-4, in conference, the wheels just came off.

I just don’t see how public negativity will help. Plug the hole in the backcourt, and things will get better.

Is there any way we can decline our invitation to the ACC tournament? Give whomever finishes first a bye and put Wolfpack fans out of their misery. I don’t care to watch a team that, except for a couple or three players, just doesn’t seem to give a damn. Half-A effort on D (every teams’ best three point shooter(s) don’t even get a token hand in their face), rebounding, lazy-A passes that are picked off. Geez… Talk about a team getting worse as the season goes on… And Sidney still hasn’t realized that all Marques Johnson is good for is giving Javi about a 1.5 minute blow. Except for his lucky three today, he is no threat to score, no threat to make an assist and doesn’t really make any impact defensively. But coach leaves him in for five minutes and the point deficit with the or team increases with each minute he’s out there.

As others have mentioned, I thought of Les Robinson’s time at State, and I’ve never been so PO’ed about a team’s effort or record. At least his teams tried hard. I can remember being frustrated by the results, but never ashamed of the way the team went about things. The Wolfpack really should be ashamed of this season. To me it is the worst I’ve ever experienced as a Wolfpack fan.

Worst and most embarrasing State team I can remember. Somehow I don’t sense that Lowe, Fowler, Oblinger, and the players are nearly as embarrassed about this team’s performance as we the fans are.
I wish I could see some way this gets better in a year or 2. But I can’t see anything in our future that is going to make this program better. Of course i don’t know basketball like Lee Fowler does so I am sure he can see the light at the end of a very freaking long tunnel.
    I just wish I did’t give a shit.

Start writing the administration! Start writing the WPC! You don’t have to call for anyone’s dismissal. Just tell them you’re damn mad and it’s their job to restore NC State to once proud athletic program we all love. If anyone has addresses, please post them!

I wonder sometimes if many of you realize how childish you sound?

NC State is my Alma Mater so I’ll always be a fan, will always cheer for the Red and White regardless of how awful that particular team might be. I’d hope that some of you guys would also to be remembered is that this is college athletics, not life or death, take a chill pill gang and try to have at least a *little* fun while watching a game. Or, *gasp* even try spending time with your families and friends on a Saturday afternoon.

I’ve been with NC State long enough to realize that decision making on campus is affected very little (read: if at all) by things that occur off campus. And lest we begin to think otherwise, even the firing of CTC came at the behest of some very powerful boosters – not because of the “lunatic fringe” here or on any other blog. Fans have a strong voice, especially when its being used to encourage and support, but is often ignored completely when used to tear down and berate young athletes and their coaches/ADs.

I’m not saying that we shouldn’t voice our opinions intelligently and accurately, or talk about how this game or that game was played – but all of this pissing and moaning doesn’t change a thing in the day to day lives of our athletes. Grow up, stick to your guns (as a fan), and do your best to support our school so that the next crop of recruits doesn’t read your bullshit and decide to go somewhere else all together.

If you keep piss’n in the wind, you’re bound to get wet.
