As long as we paint it red of course!

Stayed for the whole game. Last couple of minutes were fun. The number of purple clad fans in high dollar seats was disappointing. The Purple/Gold chant was really disheartening and our players looked taken back by it. However, they did not quit and that meant a lot to me and showed me that there is still some gas left in the tank.

To the Buttheads who sold state tickets to the purple butt priates.

    This is just a short list of the impact of your actions;

    1) You are defecating on the state fans who sit beside you, behind you and in front of you.
    2) You are giving the opponent a voice in your own stadium.
3)You are destroying the home field advantage.
    4) The chant “purple and gold” (really should be yellow) makes my ears bleed.
    5) You are increasing the chance of red on purple violence in the stands.
    6) Do we really need one more drunk chick in spandex at the game?

I personally feel that if you sell your tickets you should have your lifetime rights cancelled. I feel you should be stripped of all State clothing, stickers, and even your diploma.

My current policy is to not sell but to wait at the entrance and give the ticket to a student. I don’t give them the actual ticket I just hand the ticket to the scanner. personnel. This stops any gifting of my ticket to the enemy. I learned this from an alum at VaTech game several years ago. In return for the favor, I kept him from going to jail. Sixty year old was going to kill the two VaTech fans two rows down.

No excuse for what I saw on Saturday! You did not hurt DY, DD, or BP, you hurt me and the other State fans who tried to support this team.

As always, I stayed to the very end. Disappointed of course, but on the positive side, this team did not quit. They were fighting till the end, unlike this time last year a la UVA.

  6. mak4dpak 11/24/2013 at 11:22 PM #

Since we share red with Maryland, let’s only hope the red we see Saturday are mostly Pack fans, and maybe we can remember what we did the last 5 minutes of the ECU game, and forget the rest. Go out on a winning note, with a promising team next year. And on another subject, Kudos to the Wolfpack womens basketball team, as they continue to win. Today over Tulane.

    Mak4DPak,

With you 100%. I just checked the schedule. The Lady Wuffies (Wuffets?) are 6 and 0. I do NOT know anything about the intensity of the schedule….but that is really great.

The Canes won. Philip won. Mike Won. Mikey ALMOST lost. Maybe the Canes exorcised the demons that resided in the rafters during the NCCU game…..and that will also take care of CF.

Pulled and yelled for BC Saturday afternoon….hope the Pack can also give them a nice going away (and staying away) card.

    ArchdalePack….

Very GOOD post. The POLICE CHARTER busses that the RPD had at the North CF entrance or as we would have called them….the Paddy Wagons, tells us a LOT. Purple Clad (or even some of the young lasses that were pleasingly nicely UNCLAD) bodies were WAY too dominant….and that is the fault of those that sold or bartered their ducats….

I would like to move that we pretend this whole weekend never happened. Any objections? Good, then it’s settled.

bilboard real or not we deserve to be made fun of. I mean really…”THIS IS OUR STATE”????? It was ok three or however many years ago when Tom thought he’d be bold one day of his life but after letting everyone in OUR STATE beat us like a sick dog that crap should have been out the door. Well we decided to keep it around, the geniuses that be, same ones who can’t put a uniform and color schemes together properly, same people who directly copy EZU’s mid field logo (yes it’s theirs, they did not copy it from UNX unless using the outline of the state is copying) for the UNX game only to get spanked by our better looking step brother (couldn’t even get that right, was originally painted off center). I’d also like to request everyone saying we shouldn’t play EZU to shut the h*ll up. Not that I agree or disagree but if we beat their ass then no one says that. About the stands being mostly black and purple….well “F” it. I have thousands of things to do and as proud as I am of the pack fans who went and sat through more misery I’m also proud to say I sold my tickets. The facilities we have, the donors we have making the wolfpack club second only to iptay…..I say we keep the da*n place empty until the athletic administration figures out what needs to be done to attract the best athletes we can to Raleigh. The plain bland unis ect. ect. ect. ain’t cutting it.

  10. Wulfpack 11/25/2013 at 8:06 AM #

Not sure why anyone thinks we are going to suddenly learn how to play football and beat Maryland. Yes, we suck even more than Maryland. We may even suck more than UVA, though it is close.

  11. mak4dpak 11/25/2013 at 8:45 AM #

I wasn’t aware of this, but Mark Thomas brought this to my attention. Except for the FSU/ECU games, going into the 4th quarter we were within a TD or less in every other game. Just have to learn how to finish.

  12. 13OT 11/25/2013 at 9:15 AM #

Just have to learn how to finish?

We need to learn how to START. And WIN. If we do that, then we won’t have to worry about what color dominates the stands.

Next Saturday, however, it won’t be a matter of what color is in the stands. It’ll be a matter of empty seats, the fruits of a 3-8 season. I won’t be able to go, but not to worry about selling my seats to Maryland fans.

I won’t be able to GIVE them away!

  13. mak4dpak 11/25/2013 at 10:16 AM #

Again as Mark Thomas said if we would learn to show up in the 4th quarter, with the exception of FSU/ECU, we do win. But as he said also, we have the youngest team in the ACC, so just have to learn, and they will.

  14. 85Designo 11/25/2013 at 10:19 AM #

The only bragging rights we have are our players’ SAT and/or ACT scores. Unfortunately that does not win games. The system is flawed, the cheats will be allowed to continue to cheat, the NCAA just enables it. We choose not to participate in the farce and rightfully so. So until there is a level playing field we should not schedule schools who cheat. It should be our policy; if our integrity matters. If not, then we need to start up a major called “The Business of Big Time Football”.

  15. EdMar 11/25/2013 at 10:28 AM #

    My two cents…
    – I do not care if we play ECU or NCCU; we just need to be good enough to beat them.
    – Maryland must be pretty bad. They are only favored by 2.5
    – I have stayed to the end of every game. Some of those kids are working their butts off, may hardly ever get to play and I believe being there to see them is the least I can do.
    – Lack of talent, young players, lack of anything close to a Wilson/Glennon QB (these two covered up a lot of our problems the last 4 years) and injuries were real factors leading to the dismal year.
    – Coaching experience (specially coaching young players and limited talent) was a factor. Too many penalties after all the movements setting up on offense, the fake punt vs. UNC, the time out after the time out last week (what the heck was that).
    – Not the end of the world, we will get better.
    – I will be there Saturday to thank the seniors and hopefully end the year in a positive note.

  16. mak4dpak 11/25/2013 at 10:45 AM #

Maybe we need to make a new slogan, this is our team, win or lose. I and 4 family member will also be there Saturday, cheering them on. Go Pack!

I watched the game on TV and I was actually surprised that there were as many State fans as there were. I figured even more State fans would have voted with their wallets, particularly when I heard what the tickets were selling for.

The game itself was poorly played by NC State. ECU kind of called off the dogs and we scored some garbage touchdowns to make it close.

Thank goodness we pulled up that ridiculous midfield logo. It was a copy of ECU, which was a copy of the Dean Dome. I couldn’t understand why we put a UNC inspired rip off on the field against them anyways. The TV people even showed our rip off of the ECU logo on the ESPN3 feed. That was a sports marketing mishap if I’ve ever seen one.

This season has been a disaster. It’s been since Chuck’s last year when I couldn’t wait for one to end quicker. We’re worse than we were that season. We’re as bad as during MOC’s 3-8 years.

We do still have Maryland. That should be our Super Bowl. We need to salvage and ACC win and send them off with a loss. I’d love nothing more than for a last minute Hail Mary to beat them.

Those complaining about the ECU series frankly confuse me. I think it’s a great series. We should be playing ECU, App (now that they’re up in FBS) and Charlotte. It beats the heck out of playing Richmond, Arkansas State, La Tech, Alabama A&M, Central Michigan, etc.. You’ve got to play non-conference games, so you might as well play some from the state that will be interesting and ensure sell outs and full stadiums. If they bring their A game, then so be it. We’ll be better for having played them.

What I think that people are really complaining about is losing to ECU and knowing coming in that we were going to lose to ECU. Frankly, if they’re better, I don’t give a hoot because a loss is a loss. We just need to suck it up and get better. Not scheduling them just looks scared.

We need to ditch that “Our State” nonsense. Walk softly and carry a big stick. That’s more the NC State culture anyways, not proclaiming to be something we’re not. That’s more the “Carolina Way.”

I find it ironic that some of those most vocal about defending the “Our State” motto are bashing others for wanting to retire it as being scared. At the same time, they’re some the exact same ones most against playing ECU. To me, being unwilling to schedule ECU is far more scared than retiring some ridiculous stolen slogan.

  18. BJD95 11/25/2013 at 10:54 AM #

I assure that I for one DO rail against playing the game, even when we win (including the year we were shit and they were pretty good). 100% consistent.

Every game on the schedule should make sense, one way or another. Either as a good test, a “learning experience” cupcake, recruiting and/or tv exposure, something interesting for OUR f-cking fans (not hillbilly Wal-Mart Hole fans, that’s your explanation of why the billboard doesn’t reference THAT game).

  19. ryebread 11/25/2013 at 11:03 AM #

archdale: Get a grip. If you really feel that way, start up a fund to buy back our tickets when we stink. People make decisions about how to spend their money and time. Frankly, if we’re going to stink on the field like we have this season, then I think it’s fine to actually get a little return on the investment selling the tickets elsewhere. Maybe having opposing fans in the stadium will motivate our players and coaches, as opposed to sitting in a half empty stadium?

Getting LTR revoked? Please. Who is next sucker lined up to pay for those?

Getting the diploma ripped up? Laughable. Only a small percentage of alums even buy season tickets to games afterwards. People who pay should be thanked.

85Designo: That sounds of sour grapes. While I do think the only big winners are cheating (Alabama, see coach who was the recent fall guy), or filled with convicts (see FSU’s QB), I don’t think we’re squeaky clean either. The truth is we just stink. I would agree that the whole NCAA system itself in football and basketball is corrupt and just needs to be burnt to the ground. Our ineptitude though is totally separate.

    RyeBread,

I think you and I are generally of the same opinion, however, I do differ with you on one point about ECU.

When VT played WVU at home, the fans that DARED traveled would not drive their own vehicles or they would drive their oldest. I purchased a MH from an ardent VT fan. He only used the MH for VT football and a little business entertaining. He said that that the VT fans in their MH parking area, each, had horror stories of cut tire, beer bottles thrown, rocks, etc. at WVU. Sort of like the Mideast riots you see on TV without the tear gas.

I also took this MH to Birmingham for the bowl game and watched the unruly Pitt fans kick in radiators on some NCSU MH’s. We, my large group of relatives sort of stood in front and I called 911 and the cops finally showed up and arrested the fans.

I also remember when ECU stormed the field and tore down the goals.

If you HAD been in CF on Saturday, you would have seen that there was a large contingent of ECU fans that were “lubricated”….now do we have the same. OF COURSE….but percentage wise, there were many more “groups” of ECU fans. They also just sat up their Purple Chairs right in the middle of the PNC parking lot aisles and seemed “miffed” that they had to move to allow a car to go through to get to their space.

It was NOT a very secure feeling. If you ever wandered through the Fair Grounds parking lot when it was like a combat zone many years ago, that was the feeling. I remember seeing street fights between MD and State fans there….a real war zone. That is why I pay more dues and am in the PNC 1400’s.

NOW, I will grant you that IF we were “winning” that most fans would NOT be selling their tickets and the percentage of Purple would be less. BUT, I can tell you that there is a problem with the Purple Fan Base…probably isolated….but there, just the same….

When the RPD and the Campus Cops have BUSSES at a game for drunk and unruly fans…..that is an issue. I have been going in at the North (PNC) CF entrance for at least 10 years and I stay to the end. NEVER have I seen two busses parked there EMPTY and being utilized as a Paddy Wagon.

SO, I do not personally want to play ECU. They are obnoxious and profane. YES, we do have some State fans like that. But peer pressure usually shuts them up or you get security. Calling out an opposing fan usually just “intensifies” the situation….and ECU does not have the lock on that….and you have to get security. A REAL HASSLE.

SO, if ONE fan group has MORE obnoxious and drunken fans than another, on a percentage basis….why play them.

We NOW have parity in the legislature….there will probably NOT be any bills passed to “make” ECU play UNC or NCSU….

  21. bill.onthebeach 11/25/2013 at 11:13 AM #

To be the “best” …. sooner or later… we’ve got to play the “best”… regardless of the color their jerseys or the sport.

I’m reminded of Bobby Bowden’s first FSU team in 1978 and his “Road Warriors” campaigns of the early 1980’s.

Not a bad model to emulate.
    Success breeds success.

There’s little question that if our previous teams had “worked together” as hard as this football “team” has… some things would be different today. On the other hand, that fact may well be the singular most promising thing about this season, and more than sufficient reason to give them nothing less than 100% of our support.

After we beat the Twerps Saturday… a whole lot of Pack fans should feel a lot better about the future of football.

On the hardwood, it’s another story… the ‘honeymoon’ is over and every game counts. Bball coaches everywhere are trying to adjust their new lineups AND figure out how to manipulate the new ‘foul’ rules to their advantage. Inconsistent play will be the norm for every team until well after the first of the year.

Nevertheless, for Wolfpack basketball … WTNY just ain’t going to cut it.

  22. ryebread 11/25/2013 at 11:54 AM #

BJD95: I know you’ve railed on the ECU game consistently. I’ll give you credit for a consistent position and that you’re one of few that hasn’t defended “Our State.” Congrats, you’re in the message board minority from what I’ve seen. Normally those hating the ECU game love the “Our State” slogan. Can’t have it both ways though.

Having said that, I respectfully disagree with you about game interest. ECU is far, far more interesting to me as a fan than La Tech, S. Alabama, Richmond, Liberty, the Citadel, Akron, etc.. App State (now that they’re FBS), Charlotte, etc. are the same. The fact that we had a full stadium despite entering the game at 3-7 and on a losing streak suggests that there clearly is interest.

When people don’t want to play ECU, they seemingly always cite things like “we’ve got nothing to gain” or “lose to them and we legitimize their program” or what have you. This isn’t war. It’s college sports. I’d argue that the best way to keep a lesser program down is to go and stomp them on the field. Play them every year. If it makes more financial sense for all involved to do a 2-1 due to stadium sizes, then so be it. But, by all means play them and get it done on the field.

If we can’t beat them, then are they really a lesser program? I’d argue not. I suspect that’s why ECU fans dislike NC State and the ACC schools so much. I tend to agree with them.

I’d argue that you can have a stronger program being a big fish in a little pond (and scheduling good teams in the non-conference) than being a whipping boy in a tougher conference. It’s the same logic that leads me to believe that we’d be even worse off in the SEC.

As for Wal Mart fans, if the requirement to attend a game is a diploma from on of the two schools playing, I’d suggest that most of the stadiums in the US would be empty. Yes, we have fewer bandwagon fans, but that’s more of a product of our ineptitude than anything else. We should strive to have more of them.

  23. BJD95 11/25/2013 at 12:07 PM #

The stadium is full because THEIR fans are interested, not ours. It’s like that every year, just vacillates between whether the crowd is 25% purple or closer to 40-50%.

If you’re willing to play a game that’s a very realistic possibility to lose, schedule Purdue, Mississippi State, Missouri, hell, Boise State or Fresno State. That’s a far sight more interesting for most fans and MUCH better for tv and recruiting exposure.

  24. ryebread 11/25/2013 at 12:07 PM #

adventuroo: Every fan base has its set of idiots and what you speak of is everywhere. You hear of it in the NFL (actual shootings in parking lots), colleges and really anywhere there’s a culture of drinking and tailgating. Not that I agree with it, but I suspect that’s why our administration clings to the tailgating limitations.

When I go to NC State games up at Maryland, we take a car with Maryland plates that doesn’t have NC State logos. I also just wear a regular jacket.

I learned this one the hard way at UNC. I owned a fairly nice BMW M3 with a NC State sticker in the window and took it to the game. I came back and it’d been puked on — yes, puked on. Think that was accidental?

NC State is no different. Just walk down the “frat row” area in the fairgrounds lots and you will see ours being as belligerent, drunk and stupid and they’re loud and proud. We just have them tucked away where many can’t see them. Frankly, I’m so ashamed of that area that I’ll park in an entirely different spot to avoid taking guests and family near it.

Then you get inside the games. At nearly any football stadium in the US, you’ll see drunken people screaming profanities, arguing with other fans, etc.. You just don’t see that at sports that don’t have the tailgating (and alcohol) culture.

The behavior you speak of is why I no longer enjoy going to football games. I like to drink and grill out as much as anyone, but the culture that surrounds the games just isn’t good.

I’d argue it’s not good for my family as well and I won’t be taking my kids. I’d rather watch the game at home (even on the internet) where I can create the type of culture that I want my family to be around. Frankly, the outcome of sports aren’t that important and are purely for entertainment. My kids need to see them as that way.

  25. 85Designo 11/25/2013 at 12:08 PM #

Ryebread: IT IS WAR! I was at the game where they trashed our field and blood was spilled that day from one of our security people who was attacked. I was sitting in front of Jim Valvano watching the riot. After that day is when we stopped playing them until the idiot politicians forced us to play them. So yes IT IS WAR!
