A “baffled” Greg Little Addresses Tickets & Tags (Is There A License Plate Bandit or a License Plate Fairy?)

Greg Little spoke to reporters (audio from WRAL here) after a Pro-Am summer league game and was asked about the 93 parking tickets he got on 5 different cars with 9 different license plates.

Point #1: 93 parking tickets with 5 different cars. Here is what Little had to say:

“I know I got a lot – come on,” Little said. “I know that was really irresponsible, but I know everybody receives parking tickets. I’ve paid ‘em. I paid them – they came from out of my pocket.”

“I drove my mom’s car, sister’s car, dad’s car, my car, and I had two cars [that] I ended up switching. That’s where the five cars came from.

One of the hot topics in college sports lately is paying players, why would this be necessary if a football player has money in his pocket for 93 parking tickets, has a car and can trade cars?

Point #2: 9 different license plates. I hope you are sitting down when you read this, but someone involved with the UNC football scandal claims to not know anything. Here is Greg Little’s explanation for the 9 license plates:

I don’t know what that’s from

and

But the nine license plates – that’s got me baffled, too

In case you have forgotten, 2 of those 9 license plates were traced back to a former Durham dealership where the owner is now serving a federal sentence for money laundering.

So if Greg Little has no idea how 9 different license plates ended up on his family’s 5 cars, does that mean there is a license plate bandit lurking around the Little family home switching their license plates just for the heck of it? Where else in the Triangle has the license plate bandit struck? I’m going out to my garage and make sure nobody switched out my license plate while I wasn’t looking.

Or maybe there is a license plate fairy that grants you a license plate for each NCAA violation? 9 license plates and 9 violations? Coincidence?

And finally the “I know nothing” defense showed up again when Little was asked if Butch Davis should be fired:

No, he did nothing wrong. What did he do? If you send your child out and your child says he’s going to the movies but he goes to a party, you don’t really have control after you step out of the picture. He had nothing to do with anything that went on. It was all me and [Marvin Austin’s] ill-advised mistakes.

The license plate fairy’s motto is: Everytime you’re running late, I’ll give your car a new plate.

That’s a nice analogy Greg, but it doesn’t exactly fit. You didn’t just leave the house and tell your parents you were going to play football, but but actually going to live the high life. You were placed in the care of other “adults” who are supposed to be in charge. In your analogy, the parents are ultimately responsible for whatever happens. In your actual case, though, the person in charge (someone at UNC) is responsible for you when you say you’re going to the movies and end up at an agent party. A better analogy would be getting dropped off at preschool. Your parents are entrusting your care to someone else. Of course in Chapel Hill, the toddlers are also running the preschool.

The best part of this hilarious “interview” is that WRAL labeled it Little “Clearing the Air.” Has anyone started a WRAL credibility watch, or is pointless by now?

If Greg’s argument held true, Lefty would still be coaching at Maryland

IF Little paid for the tickets out of his own pocket, then why does the NCAA think that Wiley paid $1800 in parking tickets?

Once again pass the popcorn please.

Almost as good as going to a movie on a hot summer day.

What mistakes? You didn’t make any mistakes. I mean, if someone is changing your plates, there’s no one to blame. Let’s be fair here.

Please. No more explanation is necessary.

I’m just glad to know this means the air is clear. Thank you, WRAL.

WRAL is simply the broadcast version of the Inside Carolina message board. Nothing to see here, folks. Move along. Move along.

WRAL is totally in the tank for the pro-Butch UNC faction. That’s not even open for debate now.

Hey, maybe Little’s plates got switched when he was in Miami on the agent trip with Marvin. That would be the perfect time for the “plate-switching-bandit” to strike. The “plate-switching-bandit” probably watched Twitter and saw the picture of Marv and Little by the pool at the lesbian ho-fest. Perfect time to pull off a plate-switching caper!

    Fairies? At UNX? Noooooooo…

You have to love Tom Suitor. He just said on the radio that he’s “just as baffled by Little’s 9 license plates as Greg is.”

Mark said it was interesting that Greg admitted to having two (2) cars. I’ve been practicing law for a decade and have only one car so the point is valid. In college I had about 1/2 a car given it’s reliability, and I’m fortunate to come from a financially stable middle class family. I have no idea about Little’s family background, but two cars belonging to a college student would insinuate they must be extremely wealthy. Good for him/them.

I think SFN nailed it earlier this week…Ernest T. seems like the kind of rascal who’d be a plate bandit, and it stands to reason he was just trying to impress Ms. Wiley…kinda makes sense that she’d step up & pay all the tickets, just to clear the air.

Ernest T is throwing license plates now instead of rocks…

If you owned 2 cars, why in the world would you need to borrow your sister’s, Mom’s and Dad’s car?

Its simple, He is a LIAR and a THUG/CRIMINAL…….so simple. A great representative of UNC.

So Little just admitted there was “no institutional control”???

“If you send your child out and your child says he’s going to the movies but he goes to a party, you don’t really have control after you step out of the picture.”

It’s obvious the “sign out sheet” is a meaningless control process!

“Its simple, He is a LIAR and a THUG/CRIMINAL…….so simple. A great representative of UNC.”

Check out the UNC NCSU game from 2 years ago, I have nothing but contempt and disdane for this man. Barking in the face of a player that is in ovbious pain is truly classless.

“If you send your child out and your child says he’s going to the movies but he goes to a party, you don’t really have control after you step out of the picture.”

This is almost as good as “robbing the bank” by Paige-Moss

I don’t know if it is more embarrassing or entertaining every time a former UNC-cheat player gets on twitter or has a microphone put in his face. Most arrogant bunch in the country.

I thought Luke Decock had a great article in the Front page of the sports section of the Charlotte Observer. I don’t know if it is online.

Decock: “..Davis would be forgiven for wondering if he’d even be invited to another Pigskin Preview. ..After all those 9 major violations include an asst coach in cahots with an agent, an alum considered to be an agent apparently given free run of the football complex, and the exploits of of Jennifer Wiley, tutor to the stars, who also worked for Davis. …That’s a lot..to stack on the plate on one’s coach’s plate, particularly when the only defense ..is ignornace…within a program he
spaid a healthy amount to oversee. ..”

Looks like the media is finally tiring of the I didn’t know stance. Lets face Davis is paid a lot to know. Of the stance other programs have issues to … true but no other program has the coach’s personally paid tutor providing players benefits or has been found to have a coach on staff on an agent’s payroll.

As far as Mr Extra Benefits Gregg Little. Yes it is true many get parking tickets. But show me where anyone else got parking tickets in five different cars with nine different license plates. And if those tickets show cars getting tickets ont he same day then my guess is other players where driving those cars too. Or show me where other students are getting their tickets paid by a tutor?

No to Mr. Little and Mr. Davis everybody doesn’t have your issues, just you! Myself and the media are tired of ya’ll thinking we that stupid to buy your excuses. I bet the NCAA doesn’t either especially since they have requested Mr. Davis attend the meeting in October! Bet he takes an attorney with him!

This will all be over by Friday, folks!

    wait…. today is friday….. s#!t!

I think better sign out procedures would have fixed this problem. Yeah, that’s it.

Here is the link to the article in the Charlotte Observer, it is a great read.

You would think that arrogance like this would be bred from a program that had enjoyed years of success. Obviously not the case here.
