Leslie recommits to NC State for 2010, says Wolfpack can be ‘great’

And there you have it. CJ Leslie will be a member of the Wolfpack in 2010. Both Pack Pride and the Wolfpacker are reporting the commitment as well as WRAL Sports Fan.

Pack Pride Link

This comes on the heels of the N&O’s report this morning about Leslie committing within the next couple of days. Leslie’s commitment makes NC State’s recruiting class a top 10 class without question and makes it possibly a top 5 class nationally. Leslie, the No. 3 power forward propsect according to Scout.com, should make an instant impact on the Wolfpack lineup.

Check back later for much more on this.

Here’s some other reports on Leslie’s verbal commitment. Also, go here to listen to Julius Hodge’s reaction to CJ Leslie’s decision.

PackPride: Confirmation from Leslie

NC State picked up a huge commitment today when Raleigh (NC) Word of God standout forward C.J. Leslie verbally committed to head coach Sidney Lowe.

“I just committed back to NC State,” said Leslie’ “I committed to coach Lowe today on campus, and he and the other coaches were all real happy.

“I wanted to see what else was out there and that’s something I did. At the end I felt like it was the right situation for me to be in.”

WRAL: Leslie picks NC State

NC State picked up a huge commitment today when Raleigh (NC) Word of God standout forward C.J. Leslie has verbally committed to the Wolfpack.

Leslie chose NC State over offers from Kentucky and UCONN among others. He is rated a five-star prospect and the No. 3 power forward in the country by Scout.com.

N&O: Leslie picks NC State

N.C. State landed one of its most noteworthy recruits of the Coach Sidney Lowe era on Wednesday afternoon when C.J. Leslie of Raleigh Word of God, one of the top dozen rated senior prospects in the country, committed to the Wolfpack.

“I’m going to N.C. State,” Leslie said. “It is a great school and we can be good there. And obviously, Coach Lowe is a great coach.”

Leslie, a 6-foot-8 basketball forward, picked State over Kentucky and Connecticut.

Leslie said Wednesday morning that he was undecided with Kentucky and Connecticut still in the the picture, but he decided during the day that he was sure he wanted to run with the Wolfpack.

“It was really up for grabs,” he said. “It was really close with the other two schools.”

This is fantastic news, but before you start counting trophies, keep in mind the national champion is only getting better next year themselves. Even with a top flight team, it ain’t gonna be easy to topple the Blue Devils.

But damnit, now we have the players to put out there and give them a game even when they are playing their best. Add in some NC State never-say-die attitude (one thing Lowe learned FOR SURE under Coach V) and we might, just MIGHT, win the conference for the first time in decades.

And let’s use this next year for a building block, Coach. Showcase your coaching, our fans and our facilities. Show the damned world that NC STATE is a place to be a baller and grab some glory!

You bustas better learn to respect Coach Lowe.

Hodge: “I wish I had another year of eligibility!”

So do I. Can you imagine that team, with Hodge and Smith providing senior leadership and the new talent coming in?

Anything less than competing for an ACC championship is unacceptable …

Great news. Next season will be fun to watch. Macrowave should excel as tons of pressure will be relieved from both the bigs and smalls. It is on Lowe to build a team.

    starting lineups

    Starter/Backup

    Harrow/Javier
    Wood/Williams
    Brown/Thomas
    Leslie/Howell
    Smith/Painter

Does that seem reasonable? Start three FR and one SO

wow, our team just got a whole lot better. a third major scoring option addition for next year. I’m not sure how good a shooter these freshmen are, but that matters less when you can get to the cup with speed and athleticism. go pack!

This news is better than great. The timing, coming on the heels of our football players bonehead announcement, just could not be better.

Welcome to the Pack Mr. Leslie. We absolutely CANNOT WAIT to see you and your teammates hit the hardwood next year.

I love the Harrow highlights, but in my nightmares, he gets called for carrying on every other possession.

I have checked everyday for any updates on cj for months and, today is one of my favorite days to be a Wolfpack fan in a long long time. The other times were when we won a game so, that is saying something.

  20. packalum44 04/29/2010 at 1:21 AM #

No way Harrow doesn’t start from day 1. He’s a magician with the rock. I think he’ll be the best of the group but having CJ really makes the starting 5 disgusting. All 5 have the ability to score 20+ points per game plus Howell off the bench. What team had that last year? Who do you guard????

K and Roy won’t sleep as easy the night before they play us that’s for sure. Duke just won a Championship with 3 offensive weapons and role players….just saying.

Not expecting an ACC Championship or Final 4 but I do expect to have the talent to COMPETE for them. Feels good to be relevant again. That’s all I ask. Be relevant and compete.

    Alright!

    Welcome CJ Leslie!

Please, please, please guys play TEAM ball and play defense and rebound. Coach Lowe, it’s on you. Prove to all of us what you can do. Please!

I’m a State fan, so while I am very excited to welcome CJ Leslie I certainly am not thinking we have a great team all of a sudden. That stuff is earned. I hope the staff has learned and will instill these lessons in the players.

  22. wolfpackdawg 04/29/2010 at 7:24 AM #

We have the horses now…Will our coaching take advantage of it. 🙁

  23. JT 04/29/2010 at 8:02 AM #

Fantastic news. The one thing a team cannot compete without at the upper levels is top talent. And Lowe has landed the top talent. Step one is done. Now to produce, and then keep building. But keeping in the present, this is huge- a necessity- for Lowe and State ball. And I have to think this is a continuation from the nice momentum State had as last season wound down.

Great day to be a Wolfpacker – finally !

Welcome back, CJ – Thanks for re-committing to Run With The Pack 🙂

If CJ has been playing pick-up games with our guys already, there shouldn’t be any problem meshing the team chemistry this go ’round.

I can see Harrow’s face light up with every assist to this group – and that kind of enthusiasm SPREADS…

TEAM BALL and HELP DEFENSE win championships, guys, not individual stars (See KENTUCKY, 2009-2010). Run AS a Pack, not just with it !!!
