Well, aren’t they claiming they need money? Wouldn’t a professional just get a better job?
My understanding is the NBA CBA precludes this. In this country, kids aren’t even eligible for the draft until one year removed from college.
The NCAA and other companies are making a ton of money off of these athletes, way more than the value of a college education. The NCAA brings in nearly a billion dollars a year. For a ‘non-profit’ that’s ridiculous. I can’t see any reason not to spread some of that money out to the people who are at the core of the business. Otherwise, you just wind up with stuff like what’s happening at UNC. Because whether we like to admit it or not, what they’ve done isn’t unusual. The offensive part is their high and mighty attitude that they’re somehow cleaner and better than other programs when really, they’re the same.
