Game Thread: #IRONWOLF Becomes Self-Aware (aka SYRACUSE)

Although I’m quite certain none of you have noticed before today, for mojo purposes, the “featured image” on the game threads has generally been a past “action” photo with the appropriate uniform combo the Pack would be wearing on that day.  Since they’ve never worn the #IRONWOLF awesomeness before, I was in a quandary.  Never one to worry, I quickly decided that the #IRONWOLF awesomeness would easily overwhelm any negative mojo created by not having an action photo of the blessed gray uniformity.

The gray unis are awesome and I personally will be wearing gray in league with my wolven brothers.  So shut up.

Crisis averted.

Wolfpack Football (6-4, 2-4 ACC) approaches judgement day today as they welcome Syracuse (3-7, 1-5 ACC) to town.  The Pack is approximately a 17 pt fav at home vs the Orange.  That seems kinda high, despite the fact that ‘Cuse is on a seven game skid after starting the season 3-0.  Especially if you consider that those seven losses were to (in order) LSU, @South FLA, @UVa, Pitt, @FSU, @’Ville and Clemson.

So, is the Vegas spread a bit out of whack?  Clemson might say yes as they had more than enough trouble putting the Orange away last week.

The Pack, of course, is coming off a loss in Tallahassee.

If the Wolfpack is to make the 2015 season have any of teh good feelz of “progress”, today is kind of a must win.  With a way better than expected Skynet….errrrr….Carolina looming on the horizon, ‘Cuse is standing between the Pack and a possible losing record (including bowl game).  A win today would eliminate that possibility.

Not to mention having at least some springboard effect heading into next week’s finale vs the Cheats.  Who, by the way, will be facing Clemson on 12/5 in Charlotte if they win either today in Blacksburg or next week in Raleigh.  How much does THAT suck?  The thought actually makes me want the machines to take control before December arrives.

Let us just hope that the Hokies can sack up and win one for the goiter…errrrrr…..the Beamer.

But I digress….

Last year in the Air Conditioning Dome….

Once again *sigh* it all gets underway at 12:30pm

NC State Returns Home to Face Syracuse (GoPack.com)

“There are no easy wins in the ACC,” said NC State offensive tackle Joe Thuney. “We watched the film against Clemson and they played with a lot of heart and a lot of energy. They were flying around the field. We’re not going to take them lightly. We know they’re going to come in here and play hard and physical.”

In recent years, this series has featured marquee wins for both schools. Two years ago in Raleigh, the Orange picked up its first win as a member of the ACC with a 24-10 victory over the Pack. And last season, State earned Doeren his first conference triumph, a come-from-behind 24-17 victory at the Carrier Dome, a win made possible by defensive end Pharoah McKever‘s 82-yard interception return for a touchdown in the third quarter. It was a play and victory that ignited a late-season surge that would land the Wolfpack in the Bitcoin St. Petersburg Bowl.

“I’ve thought about Pharoah a lot this week because of what he did in this game last year,” Doeren said. “It’s a totally different offense this year, but Pharoah is a great young man and that was a turning point in that season. Obviously, we’ve built off that and moved forward. That was a game that put us where we needed to be mentally. We had a pretty good run from there. I’d love to get this game to equal last year’s win total.”

Burriss injury, ouch. Hope it’s not serious. Don’t see how we win next week w/o him.

    Like our chances w him.

Maybe the c-cksuckers will be already in parade planning stage, mentally. I hope we beat ’em by about 70.

Hope they overlook us for Clemson. Maybe the coastal champ rings they probably already made will affect the players’ ball control. At least the cheats basketball ball team lose to Northern Iowa today.

Indeed, the psychology next week will be interesting. We will be up. Will UNC? Are they happy just making the game, or are they going for more? A very far outside shot at the playoff if and only if they win out, and would still need major help.

    EC. SEC. SEC. SEC

    GARBAGE FOOTBALL

It isn’t nearly as good as it has been. South Carolina is an atrociously bad football team. No wonder Spurrier quit mid season. Clemson will bury them.

SEC East is hot garbage this season.

I hope we are significantly sharper than we were this week.

Not that it matters now, but how can a play be reviewed once the next play has taken place?

Talk about your NC state sh*t…Burris gets injured on a virtually meaningless onside kick. Like foose said – his loss would be devastating for our secondary – he hasn’t been beaten long all year

Our d will have to change its stripes a bit. All year we have been susceptible to big plays. The gamecocks made them earn it and they struggled. Our offense needs to run on them and hold onto the ball.

We can beat them but we’ll have to have our best game of the season. (Like we did last year.)

    Pack/Holes. 3 things:
    1. You are what Your record says You are (Big Tuna).
    2. UNX had their bad game away but won anyway.
    3. Home game. our house. no excuses.

At least next weekend’s State game will probably avoid the ACC Network. When will the time and network be announced?

And the West has been a disappointment. It’s Bama and a whole lot of average. LSU lost its third in a row today. Les Miles is in some trouble.

Ole Miss lost to a Memphis team that has THREE losses in the AAC. SEC will still get multiple NY6 bids.

If Florida beats Alabama will they get in the playoff? The eye test says no way. The one loss SEC rule says #2 seed

I have thought about that scenario. It would of course depend on what else happens. Clemson is in with wins over the Carolinas. Notre Dame will be in if they win out against BC and Stanford. Iowa would likely get in with wins over Nebraska and Sparty/Michigan. If any of these guys lose then yes it would be a possibility. Probably depends on what happens with the Big 12 as the Pac 12 we know is eliminated.

And also, does Michigan State get consideration if they beat Penn State and then Iowa? Sparty is certainly going to get a nice bump this week. I’d put them in over Florida if it came down to those two for the four spot.

Michigan state would definitely get some consideration – especially if tOSU beats Michigan in that scenario. Heck, the way things are going they might be in if they win out regardless.

I don’t know if anyone watched that tcu – ou game but tcu’s coach made one of the most bizarre decisions I have scene by going for 2 when a kick would have forced ot. Ou couldn’t move the ball with their backup qb and tcu had just finished scoring 17 straight. Now, do I think Vatech should have gone for 2 – perhaps – but I didn’t see that game (thankfully).

Craziness out there. Those 4 big 12 teams in the top 25….3 of them have had their starting qb knocked out.and Oklahoma state’s guy is in bad shape.

I thought Beamer might go for two and the win as well, but they had all the Mo at that point. They just had a bad offensive series in OT and UNC took advantage.

Watching the Big 12 has been tremendous this year. A super competitive conference. Amazing that they could get left out if Oklahoma loses.
