That’s kind of why I want us to bowl against a fringe top 25 team, which is my definition of “bowling down.” I’m comparing that with the Belk Bowl/Georgia situation.

You may be the only person I know who considers playing a top 25, any top 25 team, “bowling down.” You can trust the bowl people to do their dead level best to match up teams in their bowls to have a good, competitive game. I don’t know what Georgia has but if we get paired up with them, I say ‘bring it on, Dogs.’ We’ll find out just how much Doeren and staff have developed this bunch of freshmen we depend so heavily on.

Cary Brewbaker is the name you seek, Mr. Grey.

I played with his son Steve, who backed up All-ACC center, Justis Everret, on the Beightol lines.

In spite of the opinions of the jaded pessimists, it’s pretty obvious to me there’s something brewing in Raleigh. Only question in my mind is how long we can keep the cook in our kitchen.

As for Rye’s “bowling down” theory… sad. Assuming you’re working with something worth a damn, win or lose, the biggest advancements are made when faced with the greatest challenges.

I’ve lost count how many times I’ve experienced success when ‘they’ said there was no chance. Some on successive weekends. In the sports world, this includes a defeat of the “unbeatable” “team of the century” in NC High School football. Yes, I am getting nostalgic and teary eyed. Weep weep. 🙂

As for the specifics of the Clemson and GT game… the Clemson game was a predictible matter of matchups, their strength vs Wolfpack’s weakness. GT was competitive until the TO dam broke.

Whether we ‘bowl up’ or ‘bowl down’, does that mean the HOLES ‘bowl back’ or ‘bowl over’ ??

Speaking of ‘Bowles’ … how come NOBODY has talked to Skipper’s son about the ‘current unpleasantness’ as Bob Lee likes to call it, over in Chapel Hill ?

Now there’s a guy who knows a whole lot about a whole lot of people, not to mention how to handle a scandal…

If Jawja showed up focused and hungry, they would indeed overwhelm us. But that’s the thing with bowls, some teams have already checked out for the season. Having bedshat their way out of the SEC title game AND what seemed like a won rivalry game with the Bees AND having been humiliated by a bad Florida team…

I’m afraid that a non-motivated Georgia team is enough to easily roll us. They have a huge advantage in the trenches.

Regardless, we’ll bowl where we bowl and face who we face. I just hope we play the best that we possibly can.

Oh my that seems like a bit of an over reaction to one game.

Whatever gave you the idea foose was talking about one game? He’s not alone either. Mr. DOG has weighed in with much the same opinion only expressed in DOGese which I sometimes don’t quite understand.

Doeren is putting something together that’s going to be pretty special. foose, DOG and a few others are like scientist looking at a microscope. They see and understand stuff that we see as just stuff wiggling around — clueless about what we are looking at. They saw it long before it became visible to me and a few others.

The W/L is a weathervane and like Mr. Dylan says, “You don’t need a weathervane to know which way the winds a blowing.”

I do have a thought that’s a slight variation on foose’s concern about keeping the cook in our kitchen. How long can we keep the assistant chefs and the food preparers?

Ryebread. that’s alright. We fear what we fear. There are some who feared the Holes would roll us. Didn’t happen.

Now that’s manning up. My thought? Anybody we play better bring their “A” game. Doeren will look’em in the eye and tell’um, “Gitcha best holt.”

Hmmm… It don’t take a Football Rocket Scientist upclose with a microscope… to see IT !
( although that it an invaluable perspective that should not be wasted ..//)

When way out in boondocks, and hills and swamps …150 miles and more from Carter Stadium… when you see State Football Coaches visiting the local kids, not just the 3 and 4 star guys, and hear High School Coaches talking about State Football and Basketball …

A blind cluelesstrollwithnumbersinhisusername could see IT, if he wanted to…

    alas…. as they say… a closed mind is a happy mind…

HAS ANYBODY HEARD AS MUCH AS A PEEP or SEEN ANY OF THEIR TARHOLE BUDDIES THIS WEEK ??? ( everybody’s GOTT those, you know… )

    NOT ME!

As they say in show business….
    Elvis has left the building.

But before Elvis and Marquesy and Swisher and Coach Hat left the building…
you know DAMN WELL THEY SAW “IT”…
which begs that other question… and the question ain’t ‘Can you see IT?”…

    It’s…
” … And what you gonna do ’bout IT?”

I said in the pre-season that 7-5 would make Doeren ACC COY in my eyes, and I stand by that. We had a clear, vast talent disadvantage in every loss other than BC. And we still hung around with FSU and even more impressively, AT Louisville (a team that’s also very well-coached).

I didn’t think what happened last weekend was remotely possible at this stage of the program’s development, and I am really damned impressed.

NOW, that doesn’t mean that the process is over, or that ultimate success is somehow inevitable. But Doeren is clearly ahead of any reasonable schedule. Winning hearts and minds, on and off the field.

I am pleased beyond words to think we will likely play an SEC foe in a respectable bowl game. Any SEC game is a fantastic opportunity and test for our guys.

I also hope U*NC’s protests are ignored, they get sent to Shreveport against Florida, the Gators play their hearts out for their departing coach and win 101-0 (on a last-second, 50-yard FG).

Who said anything about one game? My comment it’s based on a 2 year (not 2 season) body of work.

What is obvious to some may not be visible to others because they don’t understand what they see, let alone what for what they should look.

I just read the other posts that followed Rick’s to which I responded. Apologies for the redundancy.

The easiest way to understand ‘Dog-ese is to already have a pretty good idea of what he is saying before you read it. Kinda like reverse engineering.

    That’s my secret, anyway.

Glad you cleared that up. I thought for a moment you were paraphrasing my interpretation of what you weren’t saying. Does that make any sense? I didn’t think so. 😉

This Doeren guy really is one of us, isn’t he? He even looks like one of us. Is it any wonder he’s doing so well with the HS coaches out in the boonies? We’ll always lose some of the recruits who grew up dreaming of playing for the Holes. And although he would never say it there will be some 4 and 5 star players who don’t fit in with the staff and the team.

This has been a good thread. I always enjoy comparing notes with you, DOG, bill and others. BTW where’s Yogi? He needs to get his ass back here and chime in. You just have to apply the Latin slogan: Illegitimous non Carborundum

Grey – my comment was a direct response to Rick’s. I hadn’t even read the others at the time. I purposely do that at times so as not to skew my perspective, similar to sharing post game comments before reading post game media and coach’s comments.

I do need to make an effort to be more clear though.

I enjoy your comments. Keep em coming.

Oh my that seems like a bit of an over reaction to one game.

It happens after almost every good or bad game. Why stop now?

The real problem is that grading coaching performance on a scale relative to a talent deficiency from the previous regime is fraught with uncertainty. The other big mistake is predicting future wins based on good recruiting rankings. The bottom line is that State needs good recruiting and good coaching to achieve meaningful results. Time and the W/L record will eventually tell us all we need to know.

I couldn’t possibly count the number of time that I’ve been told on message boards that I wasn’t seeing the big picture and being overly pessimistic. State’s FB coach is finishing his 2nd season and the BB coach is starting his 4th after both replaced fired coaches. So it obviously wasn’t me that miss-called the big picture. Conclusions with meaningful data are always going to be more accurate that wishful thinking or premature predictions.

Conclusions with meaningful data? Oh, I see. 20/20 hindsight. And what the heck is a “premature prediction?”

VaWolf82, I have no problem with those who analyze data to draw conclusions but to knock those who analyze and evaluate football progress or improvement without having the results to guide them and accuse them of wishful thinking is over the top and condescending IMNSHO.

If one looked at the meaningful data, one would have concluded that Wake would stop the Pack and the Holes would roll on the Pack D. I know Mr. DOG said otherwise and I think I recall foose doing the same.

Evaluating what is happening as it is happening by looking in places other than the stat sheets is far more difficult than using 20/20 hindsight, i.e., meaningful data. Just because you don’t understand how to do that, please don’t make those wrong who do.

If all I had was what occured between the lines last week (or any week, for that matter), I might agree that all I am contributing is wishful thinking or premature predictions.
