LRM Comments:

The design itself doesn’t bother me. I’ve seen this decal on cars and I recall commenting several years ago it was a creative idea for ECU to play off Carolina’s mid-court design.

Personally, I think the state of North Carolina flag (if permitted by flag etiquette) or even Tuffy at midfield would have been far more creative, and State fans would’ve loved it.

The main problem is that we seem to keep creating ways to put ourselves in the cross hairs. It shows that whomever is responsible for this doesn’t have a firm pulse on this fan base, or they would have known this would draw criticism from within, because of how it would be viewed externally.

It seems like we keep trying to squeeze our “brand” into some generic marketing template rather than promoting ourselves to ourselves (the “Our State” campaign has been wildly popular for a reason). You know, those of us who don’t need the “NC” to know which STATE.

And a note to all the die hard Carolina fans out there: remember, it’s Tar Heels (two words), not Tarheels.

So “Everybody does it, so it’s ok”??????

To be honest, I kinda like the new CF field logo, and I couldn’t care less if it’s copied. But to those who do care that it is copied, showing that others do it too isn’t gonna make any difference.

If we are going to rip something off, let’s get something cool and from a program worth stealing from. Let’s get the “Enter Sandman” intro from VPI. Our intro music has always been super lame.

As I’ve stated before I even prefer the Block S without the NC inside. I’m pretty traditional on all that.

The funny thing is that so few people watch ECU football televised on Univision that nobody will even know that we ripped off the idea.

I do love, however, the way that ECU fans think that that STATE fans have ripped off the original idea of an outline of the STATE —- you, know….the same outline of the state that has sat at mid-court of UNC basketball for over 50 years. Gee….where did ECU get the idea?

  5. Daniel_Simpson_Day 11/01/2013 at 11:57 AM #

Look, if you subscribe to the premise we have evolved to the point that it’s impossible to have an original thought or concept and you don’t have a problem “borrowing” the ideas of others that’s your prerogative. But I would rather you borrowed from anyone other than ECU and thus borrowed from UNC (since ECU’s midfield logo was obviously inspired by UNC’s midcourt logo).

And ECU’s pirate logo resembling NCU’s strutting wolf (Tuffy) does not make it all better. If I’m not mistaken, the strutting wolf is a clear copy of Wisconsin’s badger, Bucky (from the 1940s).

Again, the issue for me is not that the logo is unoriginal; it’s the overall context. If we copied something from someone like Colorado or Kansas, it would probably go unnoticed. Buy you know damn well ECU fans are going to jump all over this.

The purple one has a nice rack.

    Who is running this Blog?

Seems like some Tar-Holes, posting degrading comparisons of NCSU to ECU…

Lots of Mascots look like that and take that stance.
    i.e. UNC’s Ram

Just an observation….like the design or not…why should we give a F*** what ecu or uncheats think about it?

  9. WolftownVA81 11/01/2013 at 12:24 PM #

^ Now that’s funny and perverted at the same time – I hadn’t noticed until you pointed it out.

Looks like the pirate’s hat was designed to be read in the rearview mirror. Must be a windshield logo.

The ECU is turned around because the image with the correct spelling is Trademark material….

    Notice how Tuffy is Trademarked.

    The meter is sinking fast.

Aren’t the bigger, better, and real schools that play football in the real big boy leagues allowed to rip off any and everything they want from the red-headed stepchildren like ECU. It is only ripping off if it occurs the other way around.

I heard there was a game tomorrow.

  14. WuPack13 11/01/2013 at 1:30 PM #

Just the head from the strutting wolf would look great mid court or mid field. I even like the idea of the old slobbering wolf profile. I have always wanted to see a red end zone with silhouettes of wolves running/prowling across it. We are the Wolf PACK and have always been represented by a singular wolf (in logos at least) other than the three headed monster from the nineties. Hell there is only one Tuffy, We at least need three of those damn fake wolves anyway.

  15. tjfoose1 11/01/2013 at 1:30 PM #

As for the logo. I give it a big FAIL. Only our marketing geniuses could make something as innocuous as a mid-field logo a point of embarrassment for a large percentage of its fan base. What, did we get our PR folks from DHHS?

Hopefully it will be removed by then next home game.

Please be real and speak the truth….ECU did not copy the pricks on the heel with their mid field logo. Yes, they use and outline of the state or north carolina, as do the holes. Thats where it stops, EZU was at least creative enough on their own to fit the large pirate within the confines of the state. Move on, we directly copied their idea, no argument can be made against it. It does look good, lets beat the sh*t out of the holes and move on.

  17. vtpackfan 11/01/2013 at 2:28 PM #

Logistically I wonder if ETS, who services the grass maintenance of the three big state schools, played into this. It sounds meaningless but it is their contract and they may subcontract field designs. You could see how recycling ideas could drive down costs, and it wouldn’t be the first time State went on the skinny.

    I thought it was Tarholes…

“Move on, we directly copied their idea, no argument can be made against it.”

Now there’s one of the most sensible statements made about this whole ordeal.

  20. 44rules 11/01/2013 at 2:42 PM #

No Gumby dangit! It’s 2 words. S&*% heads!

  21. Wolfpack93 11/01/2013 at 2:55 PM #

Just as long as we don’t ripoff another team’s colors. The first time I saw some schmuck wearing a red UNC hat, I wanted to vomit (preferably on the hat).

  22. JohnGalt78 11/01/2013 at 4:09 PM #

David Glenn has dubbed this a scandal and promoted it as such on his slobbering, p popping, spittle on the mic talk show. If our choice of logo is a scandal, then exactly what does one call that cheating, stinking, mound of dung, cess pool mess over in Orange County? Opps…asked and answered.

  23. primacyone 11/01/2013 at 5:08 PM #

It was our design first. End of story.

  24. Alpha Wolf 11/01/2013 at 6:13 PM #

David Glenn has dubbed this a scandal

Well, that means that it is. If Smokey is on it, then there’s a certifiable scandal that he will have to explore with all of the dozens of people who have time to listen to his show while the rest of us are working.

Would you guys please run two surveys?

    1. What should be at midfield of CF
    a. Tuffy
    b. Tuffy’s head
    c. Block S, perhaps with wolf eyes or some creative tweak

You could show some pics of midfield with these different logos there.

    Second survey question:

How much does this pirating of ECU’s/UNC’s logo bother you?

    a. Not that big of a deal
    b. Bothered but mistakes happen.
    c. Really irritated given the time and money I spend on behalf of State athletics.
    d. Furious, fire the idiots who have made one more blunder after badly copying LSU’s intro video and Miss. State’s “Our State” campaign, and a host of other missteps.
