Weekend Sports Open Thread

Tonight, you have Louisville’s last legitimate chance to lose – and spare us the vomit-inducing “they can only play the schedule they have” pablum from the talking heads. As I have noted before, I wouldn’t have Louisville in my Top 10, and tOSU wouldn’t make my Top 5. Schedules matter, and fetishizing undefeatedness is stupid. There’s also my beloved baseball Cardinals trying to make Fox execs cry by eliminating the Dodgers.

The Pack also has its not-quite-midnight madness event tonight, and maybe some folks can report back. I believe its also streaming on GoPack.com this year, which is nice (if it works).

Tomorrow is headlined by Texas A&M vs. Auburn (3:30, CBS) and of course, Florida State at Clemson (8:00, ABC). This game is really the Noles’ first test, but not Clemson’s. I think that, plus home field, are sufficient to spring the Tiggers to victory. And into clear pole position if Bama or Oregon loses – Clemson is the one team that (in my humble but correct opinion) plays a tough enough slate to not need Bama to lose twice.

Sunday’s RedZone Channel-gasm will be a mere appetizer to Peyton Manning taking my beloved Broncos to Indy to shut Jim Irsay’s fat, stupid mouth. Run up the score, John Fox. My fantasy team needs it.

With the Pack on bye, we can just enjoy sports without the usual quota of wailing and gnashing of teeth. Plus the Holes have already lost. Huzzah.

Watching Syracuse v. GT. Syracuse is just awful. They have a some talent with running the ball, but are terrible in just about every phase of the game. They make quite a few mistakes on both sides of the ball and cant quite execute anything. Its looking more and more like the richmond game for state was not just a fluke….I don’t know if State can beat any quality D 1 opponents this year unless something drastically changes. I hate rebuilding but I believe in the staff and like what they’re TRYING to do….

    Go Mizzou!!

  3. Wufpacker 10/19/2013 at 2:15 PM #

    ^ LMAO.

  4. BJD95 10/19/2013 at 2:24 PM #

Hee hee, sad trombone on the kickoff return TD. I done jinxed Mizzou with my public endorsement.

42-goose egg in favor of the bees. I feel just as bad as I did last week.

  6. Wufpacker 10/19/2013 at 2:51 PM #

    49 now.

And I feel your pain, red.

Let’s just hope WRAL switches immediately to TAMU/Auburn at 3:37, and doesn’t stick with Cuse getting stung all over.

Mizzou has been dominant apart from that kickoff return. They could be a legit contender. Winning at home against the Chickens next week would almost clinch the East.

Mizzou trying to limp to the victory over the Gators.

Maybe they need some physical therapy or something.

I commented following the Wake loss that we may not win again this year IF we play like we did. Some didn’t like it. We followed it up with an egg against Syracuse, a team that is getting thoroughly pounded by a ho hum Georgia Tech squad.

… while we are waiting for the Massacre at Death Valley to start…..

Anybody else think that the NCAA has a undercover guy down in Shreveport…. ??

If they are not real careful…. that football TEAM at Grambling could start something contagious ….

And if they do… They got my full support.

  11. BJD95 10/19/2013 at 3:41 PM #

    LMAO, Wuf.

Vandy all of a sudden running roughshod over Georgia. Mark Richt could start feeling heat again. Not fairly, mind you. But he still could.

  12. Wufpacker 10/19/2013 at 3:43 PM #

Yeah, the Dawgs are letting themselves get beaten with a rolled up newspaper it seems. The James Franklin Times, maybe.

And LMAO BJD….you know I luv ya.

The SEC East is completely overrated. Georgia and South Carolina go down. Mizzou now in firmly control with a win over Florida. Things don’t look good for Spurrier down in Columbia. A very disappointing season. And how about Butch Jones? A helluva coach.

  14. BJD95 10/19/2013 at 3:48 PM #

Hee hee. And I done forgot about Stanford vs. UCLA, that’s a decent channel flipping option.

  15. Wulfpack 10/19/2013 at 3:51 PM #

Cue the fire Mark Richt chants. They are coming.

  16. Wufpacker 10/19/2013 at 3:53 PM #

I try to stay away from taking sides in PAC12 matters. Only reminds me where I am.

But the team in red with the big ‘S’ on their helmet must always prevail.

    Die Bruins.

  17. Wulfpack 10/19/2013 at 3:53 PM #

Could always scout Maryland against Wake. Hawkeyes up a score on Buckeyes.

  18. Texpack 10/19/2013 at 4:00 PM #

Mizzou will be voted into the top 5 this week. The pollsters have to make sure they end up in the BCS game in case they beat Bama or LSU.

  19. Wufpacker 10/19/2013 at 4:02 PM #

It is a travesty that the Wake/UMd game is being televised.

Or even being played at all for that matter.

Not that I am a homer in such matters. I feel similarly about the NCSU/FSU game a week from now.

Who the hell is making these televisionary decisionaries?

  20. BJD95 10/19/2013 at 4:10 PM #

Auburn is looking mighty impressive. The Iron Bowl could be fantastic this November.

  21. Wulfpack 10/19/2013 at 4:12 PM #

And before anybody spouts off about how I am hating on the SEC, think again. The West is deep as can be. Any of Bama, LSU and TAMU would win the East easily. And now you have the rise of Auburn. I just think the East has been pumped up and there is now very little to show for it right now. Florida stinks. UGA could very well have 3 losses. And the Cocks have struggled all year long. I have no idea just how good Mizzou is but the winner of the West will obliterate them in Atlanta.

  22. BJD95 10/19/2013 at 4:12 PM #

I would watch golf before I would watch WF/MD. Golf.

It would be awesome for tOSU to go down. Then I could quit worrying too much about an undeserving title game participant.

  23. Alpha Wolf 10/19/2013 at 4:17 PM #

Cue the fire Mark Richt chants. They are coming.

Probably, but I doubt even as deep as Alabama is that they’d keep winning with all of the injuries Georgia has had this year.

  24. Alpha Wolf 10/19/2013 at 4:18 PM #

And right on cue, one of my high school buddies that went to school at UGA has posted this on Facebook:

“You have the best quarterback in the history of the SEC (records wise anyway). He has led this team with his arm all season. He needs 3 TD passes yo be the all-time SEC leader. But you only let him throw for just over 100 yards today. Mike Bobo is back to his old self. Fire his ass now Mark Richt, don’t wait until the end of the year.”

  25. Wulfpack 10/19/2013 at 4:21 PM #

Sure enough on the injuries. Still no business losing to Vandy with that kind of QB. And don’t forget Tennessee. Should have lost that as well. My Georgia friends aren’t happy.
