UConn game open thread – State 10 UConn 7 (Final)

Opening this entry near the end of the 1st quarter because I am so bored and disinterested in whatever this sport is supposed to be that I thought I would see if anyone else is out there with which to interact.

Of course, as I type this NC State gets an 18 yard pass to James Washington and we have finally crossed mid-field!!!

———————-

It wasn’t easy. It was ugly. But, NC State gets win number one with a road victory at UConn.

Just realized that there is also an open thread on the game over on our message forums.

We look terrible. No surprises and nothing new. We have 4 more games before we figure out what to do. Same season every year, just press rewind.

We look awful. Just awful. Yet we are still tied 0-0 (9 mins in the 2nd quarter).

I guess I should qualify that we look awful on offense. Defense has obviously held strong.

True fresham Hegedus clearly impressing the coaches. Getting legit playing time.

Was that an I-Formation and running behind the fullback?  What a novel idea!!!  And…a FIRST DOWN!!!

You-cons defense is legit this year.

UConn fails to convert on 4th and 2.  That is at least the 3rd or 4th short distance opportunity the Wolfpack defense has held in 1st half

    State leads 3-0 at halftime

We are missing Crisp. Chandler getting owned on the outside blindside.

    I’ll take it. Not pretty, but it’s a “W”.

I am personally embarrassed that we are now at a point where we can only beat Uconn, UCONN, 10-7! Our coaching staff is a joke. We would be better served as fans with a Raleigh junior high school staff calling the plays as opposed to Bible and O’Brien. I would love to be convinced otherwise (literally…someone please post and convince me otherwise…), but after an incredibly disappointing trip to Atlanta and this pathetic offensive performance and play calling against a Big East defense, I am skeptical at best for the season. P.S. I don’t want to hear any garbage about what a great defense Uconn has…

    Good:
Amerson is back. He played well, showing good ball smarts and being where he needed to be, albeit against slower competition.
DLine showed they are definitely a strength.

    Bad:
Glennon is still not performing as one would expect a highly touted 5th-year senior would. Still locking on to receivers and not getting rid of the ball when he should.
Linebackers are still a weakness, even though they slightly improved this game (again, competition).

    Ugly:
OLine: Where’s the “strength”? Too many sacks. Poor run-blocking. “C’mon, man!”
Earl Wolff going out with a groin injury.

A win is a win. Still lots more to work on, but the team appears to be getting up to game speed. Next up is South Alabama, which should be welcome tune-up game at home.

Wow, thanks to everyone who set all of us negative nancies straight by telling us how GREAT of a team UT is, and not to take that loss too harshly. Good thing i dont know jack shit about football. If it wouldnt for ya’ll, I’d be under the dilusion that NC State kinda sucks….

  13. gopack 17 09/08/2012 at 3:10 PM #

Agree, not pretty but will take it. Glennon was over loaded.
We have to give better protection. We have speed and talent at wide out.

Good thing some of you guys set us negative nancies straight about UT being a great team that we lost too…
I hear UConn is a real power house too…

Crisp was out today. Not good to have him out against one of the best DE’s we’re playing all year.

Hey, NC State has rarely been a program where we could assume a road win against a BCS opponent.

And inhoc – if you thought that we were going to roll over UT – you don’t know anything about football. UT had very good talent and we needed to play a better game to beat them. We didn’t play a good game, so we lost.

I don’t think we played a great game offensively today, but we won the TO battle, and shocker we won the game.

Still not feeling much better about today. As a long-time reader on this site and now second-time poster, I’d like to hear from some of you regulars and fellow loyal State fans about why I should not be a negative nancy right now.

  17. inhoc... 09/08/2012 at 4:21 PM #

Uh, no one (that I know) expected us to roll over UT.

Theres loosing, then there’s loosing nc state style.

“UT had very good talent and we needed to play a better game to beat them. We didn’t play a good game, so we lost.”

    That’s heresy according to some….

It’s so unbelievable the glasses some wear that blind them to what’s going on with this team. I for one do not entirely understand it, so all I have to go by is the performance which is dumbfounding at times….

This is Tom O’Brien football….and unfortunately, for NC State, TOB football is the best football we’ve had since Dick Sheridan football.

Hey, this coach had a pretty extensive record at BC. It was obvious what would happen.

I wanted Paul Johnson too – but, if you think TOB’s recruiting is bad, try finding 22 guys who want to play the wishbone.

If TOB can replicate what he did at BC – it will be a much needed stepping stone for this program. And the truth is that things won’t change much for NC State until we start bringing in 65K fans or more year. And, of course, we’ve designed our stadium in such a way that this kind of expansion will be next to impossible without gutting the entire stadium.
