ACC Tournament Game 1 refs pay tribute to Karl Hess

I am not making this up.  According to alert reporter J.P. Giglio, the three officials working the Maryland-Wake game have “KH” on their left shoes.  Full story.

Hess’ absence is not a form of punishment for the incident at the N.C. State-Florida State game on Feb. 18, Clougherty said, but the three officials who worked the first game on Thursday —Jamie Luckie, Mike Eades and Bernard Clinton— each wore a small piece of white tape on their left sneaker with the initials “KH.”

Clougherty had no comment about the apparent tribute to Hess.

Man, I just came in and saw this topic. All I can say is that DY (if not already) should be on the phone or directly in Swofffords face over this. This a direct F*U* to State by these bush league officials. Too late to not take the floor like a previous poster but I damn sure would raise hell publicly about this crap! If these garbage is allowed then you can bet your life we are going to be playing 5 against 8 and screwed over every chance during this tournament by the refs.Maybe our team should come out with a tape on one side of their shoes with FKH and on the other FJS

So much for the idea that referees shouldnt bring attention to themselves. Oh wait, that’s always been contrary to the ACC idea of proper officiating.

FYI, the refs in the NC State/BC game came out with the tape on like the first crew but were told to remove it by Clougherty.

Why get pissed? We should play along and play this TO THE HILT. Everyone there for the UVA game wearing red & white should wear bunny ears and hold signs saying “Bye bye Bunny-ears”

If not, we should play in Atlanta more ….in the SEC

Whether the sticker is on the shoe or not, it serves as proof that the ACC refs are collectively aligned with Karl Hess, which places NC State’s team at a disadvantage on the court. Even if its just one call that’s influenced against us b/c of some ref’s affiliation with Karl Hess, that’s just wrong and cannot be accepted. It compromises the integrity of impartiality.

That these refs did not recognize how misplaced such a public gesture would be tells me all I need to know. And the ACC can tell them to loose the stickers but that does nothing for the agenda they represent. It appears this little tiff is truly alive and well in the minds of our conference’s referees.

backnine: That’s how I see it. Clougherty has lost control of this thing. He needs to go and whoever organized this little “show of solidarity” needs to as well. Only by making an example of this will it actually ever get fixed.

There are plenty of highly capable D3 refs that would kill to get an opportunity to ref at this level. It is time to go get some.

My god, I hope Yow’s phone is ringing off the hook. This is finally THE piece of evidence needed to show it’s not just black helicopters.

Maybe this will have a fake double reverse mojo and we might get some calls. Can not believe the refs were allowed to take the floor with that on their shoes! Trust me DY is all over this.

Poor DY. She’s gonna have to start paying by the email if this stuff keeps up.

With tangible evidence such as this, if I were Yow, I would bang that drum like crazy. I would make a spectacle of it to force the ACC to fix it. These refs went out of their way to make a statement – and its the wrong one!!!! Who the hell do they think they are? Getting worked up just thinking about it. Hopefully there are some fair minded media members out there who will jump on this as well.

Hopefully the State players will put FKH on their shoes.

These “solidarity” refs should wear that KH sticker on the seat of their britches.

This is a flagrant, defiant demonstration of bias. What’s next? Are they going to thumb their noses at us and chant, “Nanh nanh na nanh nanh” in unison?

^^ I’d prefer FACC, but that’s just me. I feel it better encompasses the overriding trend. The KH issue is only a symptom of the bigger cancer.

Clearly, the ACC has a ref problem.

This truly is an abomination. The refs that wore KH on their shoes should be fired immediately. This totally compromises the integrity of the ACC, if there is any left.

They usually blow the whistles but this time they blow my mind. Karl Hess, Clougherty, Swofford, and those three referees are a joke! I feel bad for their childish behavior at their ages.

This kind of thing validates what some of us have thought for a long time about acc refs

Need to have CC and TG stickers on our guys shoes, not FKH.

They should come out on the court with a piece of rope tied around their wrist and put that hand behind their back to signify playing with one hand tied behind their back.

i would be shocked, absolutely shocked if there is not a RULE in the ACC officials handbook that states that officials are IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM alter their uniforms without direct instruction to do so from their immediate supervisor. someone should look into the ACC ref handbook, if it is available, and check this. if these 3 refs violated an ACC rule, they should all be dealt with acordingly

if my hint above isnt enough…..Someone should make DY aware, as i know for a fact there is such a rule about officials altering their uniforms. and the officials today all violated it!

Tudor: A Hess of a mess at the ACC

    http://www.newsobserver.com/2012/03/08/1916158/tudor-a-hess-of-a-mess-at-the.html

Towards the end, I saw this.

“The building was embarrassingly short on fans Thursday.”

I reckon so. Given that the outcome has been so predictable for so long, fans have lost interest in the preliminary play-in games.

Suffice it to say that our AD and her staff was right in the thick of it. They FULLY understand and got their point across. OTHER sources are reporting the following…..this comes from folks supposedly in the know. I can NOT vouch for their information, but it does, at least to me, make some sense.

The Ref’s PROTEST today was NOT aimed at NCSU. Quite the CONTRARY. It was directed at the ACC and the “two” JOHN’s. It was the Ref’s SOLIDARITY protest over a few things.

First was the “reprimand”, weak as it was, that was publicly issued byt the ACC to KH.

Second was the dissatisfaction with KH NOT being at the ACCT. There are “varying” reports of who actually decided that he should NOT be a distraction….HIM or the ACC. Either way, the OTHER Zebra’s did NOT like the fact that he was “NOT” there, for whatever reason.

Third, there is a rumor, which was actually presented as a matter of fact statement by Tony Haines early in the Broadcast that KH would NOT be calling ANY future ACC Games. Tony backed off that after the broadcast when the ACC issued their “extensive” explanation.

Thus, some might (others might NOT) conclude that in reality, the ACC severed it’s ties with KH. He was NOT a happy camper and let his buddies know and they decided to pull their little childish stunt. It would LOOK to me, a mere mortal, that such behavior would just further add fuel to this little blaze. But, I don’t wear the stripes.

Maybe, the KH sticker was appropriate. Usually this is for a DECEASED person (the LC on our our uniforms). It honors a person that is usually DEAD. Maybe, to the ACC, KH is DEAD and we will NOT see his smiling, scowling face at an ACC game in the future.

Pretty heady stuff. If anyone else has credible insight, either for or agin, please put it out.

Most of the folks that watched the telecast of listened to the WP Play-by-Play said that actually the Ref’s were kinder to us today than in the past. Sort of trying NOT to show their dislike for our actions towards one of the IMMORTALS.

FWIW, the box score lists 21 BC fouls and only 16 State fouls. Our average foul difference is, based on the charts here is around -1 or so if I remember correctly. Thus, we would have expected to have had 20 fouls called on us. Therefore, we did receive some preferential treatment today as it was -5 today. WHO KNOWS…..???
