Nicely done…I’m hearing impared so I didn’t notice the sound not working. Good thing I can read lips! Welcome Home RP!! Can we actually get him to sign his letter RIGHT this instant?

Just the start… Welcome, Rodney !!!

  4. redcanine 09/30/2011 at 2:24 PM #

Rowdy Roddy and his bro “White Chocolate” should make a helluva nice backcourt

^Tyler’s dad just called them Fire & Ice II

  6. millionbubbles 09/30/2011 at 2:26 PM #

I’m pretty sure he said “arrove” at the beginning of that press conference.

A monster pickup that I expect will lead to other positive news. Warren & Jefferson would be very nice to follow. 🙂

To me, just evidence that NC State can recruit at a certain level with a variety of coaches. Sendek, Lowe, and now Gottfried all landed big names, in the case of Lowe and Gott prior to ever coaching a game.

Fire & Ice II sounds great. Gott is moving quickly to make things happen.
Lordy, I hope they can coach.

Let’s let the kids be who they are. I’d love another Fire and Ice, but this Rodney doesn’t seem to be anywhere near the pure shooter that Monroe was. Of course, that Rodney probably couldn’t get to the rim like Purvis.

Great news on the recruiting front. I’ll admit that I’m only cautiously optimistic. A lot can happen between now and when he’s to suit up next season.

Tyler’s dad also said Carolina is going to learn to hate Rodney and Tyler.

    ^ hope he’s right

Per the ESPNHS article, he says he wants to sign in the early signing period in November so that’s less time than I worried for him to get cold feet if forwards don’t come like we hope. Hopefully he doesn’t have buyer’s remorse and he can focus on doing the things he needs to do to stay eligible and get better.

He also used the same “it’s just a relief to have it over with” kind of line that Torian Graham used when he first announced his commitment. It makes me nervous but I’m happy for the kid and excited to see him play in red.

Let’s not forget a certain Lorenzo Brown who will hopefully be back next year. Wow! What a group of guards that will be.

  15. redcanine 09/30/2011 at 2:51 PM #

After viewing one of RPs highlight reels on youtube this morning, I was surprised to see how big of a kid he is. He should physically be able to hang in there against top quality opponents (unlike Harrow who got thrown around like a rag doll). It looks like we’re getting a very capable player.

  16. newt 09/30/2011 at 2:57 PM #

Seems like we are also still in the mix with Smith-Rivera. That would be a bunch of capable guards, both shooting and ball handling.

From Marques Johnson, Javi Gonzales, and Julius Mays, to Lorenzo Brown, Tyler Lewis, and Rodney Purvis. We’ve come a long way baby!

  18. PoppaJohn 09/30/2011 at 2:58 PM #

“white chocolate” (aka TL) – makes me laugh

  19. IrishPackFan 09/30/2011 at 3:04 PM #

So has the Lewis/Purvis recruiting of Warren started now? What do you think the topic of conversation will be at tomorrow’s football game?

Is Gott still making a tandem jump…?

  20. Smasher 09/30/2011 at 3:07 PM #

So, when do we get to set artificially optimistic expectations predicting a final four appearance only to be let down?

  21. Packfan28 09/30/2011 at 3:16 PM #

Okay, now let’s add TJ Warren and Amile Jefferson. I’m not too greedy.

  22. gopack10 09/30/2011 at 3:33 PM #

Newt I highly doubt that Smith-Rivera will come to State now that Purvis committed. State will more than likely be focused on adding a SF/wing type player and then a big.

A combo of Warren/Jefferson, Warren/Johnson or Jefferson/Johnson would be nice and more of what we should expect.

  23. Packfan28 09/30/2011 at 3:34 PM #

    Now here’s a surprise:

    ” GoodmanCBS Jeff Goodman
N.C. State aren’t gonna like this, but Rodney Purvis is not the savior. Talented, but needs to learn how to play in team concept”

God that man is an idiot. He’s the same guy that picked Harrison Barnes to be the National POY last year.

For whatever reason, he sure hates NC State.

  24. Packfan28 09/30/2011 at 3:47 PM #

Here is who we are getting:

“Rodney Purvis creates major buzz no matter where he goes. After his first game, there was a scrum of reporters trying to get quotes. To put it in perspective, most players at camp have one or two guys trying to get interviews at a time. Purvis walks in the gym and shuts it down. ”

“Rodney Purvis, CP3 All-Stars, Thunder – A late camp arrival, Purvis was thrown into game action quick. With fellow guard (and possible NC State teammate) Tyler Lewis sitting out the team’s morning games, Purvis was asked to produced and he did, dropping 15 points. He teammed up in the backcourt with DC Assault’s Nate Britt. When Britt went to the bench, Purvis would slide to the PG position. He went back to shooting guard when Britt was back on the floor.”

Jeff Goodman hasn’t said anything nice about NC State why should he now. Everyone should just assume what he’s saying is complete garbage.
