CJ Leslie Officially Re-Opens Recruitment

As most regular readers know, SFN has hinted at this development since January, but now that Dave Telep is bringing it into the public domain (note – this is a premium article, so we won’t post any content), we can be more explicit. CJ Leslie has re-opened his commitment, and is no longer an NC State verbal.

We have definitely heard that Memphis will be heavily involved. I have lamented that April 11, 2006 was the day that NC State’s basketball program died, after many years on life support. That was the day John Calipari, arguably the perfect coach for NC State, said no. Go ahead, re-read the Dan Wetzel article we linked and try not to slit your wrists.

And Calipari is the gift that keeps on giving for NC State. Despite self-serving and transparently jealous/defense mechanism comments from some calling Calipari a “thug” or a guy who could only get his players in at Memphis – please note we are fishing from the same waters. DeMarcus Cousins, probably John Wall, and now maybe CJ Leslie. The only difference is that Calipari actually wins these recruiting battles. Does anyone have any doubt who would have come out on top if Calipari was at NC State, and Lowe at Memphis? Didn’t think so.

Now, it’s important to note what this does not mean. We have not been told that Leslie has definitely decided to go elsewhere. He maystill end up at NC State. But publicly de-committing is a very, very bad omen for Sidney Lowe and the health of his program entering the crucial 2009-10 season.

As far as the timing is concerned, we were told that CJ would re-open his commitment at the end of the basketball season. This weekend, he made good on what we were told he would do.

Editing with tags broke this. All the spaces became HTML %20.

Noah, he is just tired of supporting a crappie basketball team. It’s time to go fishing for a new AD, because the sub-par results of all the State teams is not a fluke. How we can expect the basketball team to mako better effort next season is beyond me.

Fred, I was only “suggesting the fishing trip” cause I was afraid you were about to get too emotional! LOL! Like we all don’t get that way!

It’s time to go “catching” a new AD, not just “fishing for one”!

To clarify, here’s what I think should/needs to happen:

    1) Fowler tossed immediately.
    2) Lowe is evaluated next year by a competent AD, no contract extension. Without vast improvement (NCAAT bid), Lowe gets tossed.

BJD, is there any chance that number 1 will actually come to fruition in the next few months? Could Fowler be ‘encouraged’ to move on to another AD position. The problem here is that: (1) we may need a new basketball coach in 12 months, (2) the current AD selected the current basketball coach that may need to be replaced, and (3) the current AD obviously cannot be allowed to select another basketball coach. Like you say, Fowler needs to go NOW so we can get in a new AD to fairly evaluate Sidney Lowe’s program.

BJD – I am not optimistic about #1.

Wolfpack4evermore….I ADMIRE your post. I decided NOT to go to the Tournament this year…LAST YEAR. I had great seat in Charlotte but the GA Dome would be the PITS…Turned out, I think I was right.

Your post was great. We went over to Crabtree Mall tonight to wish Sid well. He was candid with us…as well as on the air. He did NOT hide behind excuses. He is optomist about the future. I also agree with your comments about Herbie…I get TIRED of typing the acronym…

Sid came through the ENTIRE crowd and personally thanked, hugged, talked to everyone…You have GOT to love NCSU to do that and be genuine in your committment…

I DOUBT that Calaparri or Ole’ Slick (ESPN Fame) or the guy who deserted WV (and got DEATH THREATS) would do that…

Herbie’s bashing and Jed’s FOUL UP DID Cost us plenty…in terms of recruiting and esteem…

Did ANY of your “loyal” fans…listen to Sid tonight? If so, you would KNOW that some of the guys sent the ENTIRE day in the Gym last Saturday…

How do you think they would feel if ALL of your asinine posting were put on the bulletin board in the gym…so they could see the LOYALTY of the fans…

We need to get a NEW subject and a NEW life…

It is SUCH postings that HURT our recruiting…

It is SUCH postings that HURT team morale…

It ALSO brings out the folks who should NEVER own computers….we have licenses to drive cars…we need licenses to BLOG here…

And to my “buddy”, Good Evening to YOU, sir.

I WILL continue, since it is MY $$’s and mine to decide WHAT to do with, to send it to the WPC…I hope that my influence will come to some good with Bobby…

I have NOT had any success in my one man campaign with Dr. O….maybe ALL of you should protest in MASS…

I’ll pull a Coach K and buy the Pizza’s FOR ANYONE or GROUP that stages a RALLY or SIT-IN to OUST JED or maybe HIGHER…THIS IS A PROMISE…ANY TAKERS….NAHHHH…That would require TIME AWAY FROM THE PC…

If any of you are buddies with good Mr. Bowles, or the Board of Trustees, then TELL THEM OF YOUR DISPLEASURE…

Goodnight said the nightman (or whatever), you can check out anytime you want…but you NEVER can leave this place….

Looks like this blog has turned into a REAL Hotel California….

Great blog wolfpack4evermore. I like you remember the 73 and 74
team but I will have to say the 72-73 team was the better team.
they just did not get a chance to bring back the hardware.
I do not have any fun in bashing or complaining about this
coach or that coach but there has to be a change. Im not going
to write an essay on why, many before me have. You are Right like
so many others Fowler has to go and go very soon. I only hope
and pray it will be in a matter of weeks or at the most a few
months. I love this university I once attended back in 74 and
all though times have changed we pack fans will always be the
    best fans in the world.
Let me tell you all something,The reason for that is when we
win we always remember what it took to get it done
We might not act like a class act an a blog, thats
because we are very frustrated but to know both sides of life
which the people up interstate 40w exit 273 don’t know makes
us who we are. The funny thing about unc is they really don’t know how to take defeat. I don’t mean a game or two but if you watched that special on HBO they were hanging a dummy of
Dean Smith before they were any good to begin with.
So like any other family we will argue but please lets not
get to the point where other coaches use this against us for
recruiting purposes. Then we would be giving Duke and UNC the
gift of keeping us down like they want us to be.

I KNOW ONE THING AND ONE THING MOSTLY. THROUGH ALL THE YEARS
THAT I’VE PULLED FOR THE PACK. SINCE THE DAY WE BEAT JOHN
ROACH AND USC. WAITING FOR THE BUS THAT BROUGHT VANN WILLIFORD AND THE 1970 TEAM BACK TO REYNOLDS WAITING OUTSIDE WITH 200
FANS, THAT ONE THING IS…CAROLINA DEEP DOWN IS AFRAID OF
NC STATE WHEN WE ARE GOOD. DON’T ASK ME HOW I KNOW BUT I JUST
DO. IF YOU DON’T BELIEVE ME ASK SOMEONE ELSE FROM THE OLD SCHOOL. GO PACK
