Andy Katz: Calipari, NC State talk, Will Meet Again in Raleigh

Memphis coach John Calipari was set to visit North Carolina State with his staff Monday, a source close to Calipari told ESPN.com.

We loved this ass-covering by Katz who was dumb enough to take what a coach said to him at face value without doing any research behind the scenes:

If Calipari takes the NC State job then it would go against what he told ESPN.com last week. When directly asked if he would be interested in replacing Herb Sendek (who went to Arizona State), Calipari told ESPN.com “No.” He said he wouldn’t want to put himself in the position of dealing with all that goes into being in the Triangle with Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski and North Carolina’s Roy Williams. Calipari is the king of Conference USA and essentially rules that conference as the marquee program.

We refer Andy Katz to Caulton Tudor’s spanking today.

I thought Katz was ok, he mentioned State a couple times in the recent season in a very positive light.

Maybe he flew to Duplin County or where-ever the Hog King of the World calls home.

(HKotW is not intended to disparage Mr. Murphy, so lighten up)

Also KPGV in Greenville. Not close to Raleigh, really but those are the only ones I can think of anywhere near Raleigh.

Bladen, if this pans out the heels and the doyels of the world will be more nervous than a nympho in a cucumber patch.

Although still probably not a jumpy as I’ve been all day. Damnation.

…tail # N27XP (evidently a twin turbine charter) flew from Aberdeen to Memphis this afternoon and is currently on the ground….there is a filed flight plan for this aircraft from Memphis to (of all places) Chapel Hill and it will leave Memphis in about an hour…..possibly with an interesting passenger on board????

There is an airport in Burlington, NC I believe. I have no idea what it is called. It would be about 45 minutes away. Duplin would be about an hour away.

You guys want a source, go to this “PortAuthority” chap who said the following on the morning Calipari thread:

We just got dissed on ESPN around the horn. Question was “Will Calipari leave Memphis for NC State” Woody Paige says “…he owns Memphis he wont go”; Michael Smith ” ..he’ll never leave, he’ll stay in Memphis”; Bill Paschke “Calipari is a lousy coach I do not know why NC State wants him. He will not go”; Mariotti “…I agree Calipari would be exposed for the lousy coach he is if he played in the ACC so he will not go” W>>O>>W>> talk about being dissed !!!

  17. NYPack 04/10/2006 at 5:19 PM #

we got dissed but Cal got dissed more

Just add them to the growing list of journalists that don’t expect NC State to get the big name. I hope the dining hall can prepare enough crow for all of those people….

  19. beowolf 04/10/2006 at 5:20 PM #

Hyatt, around 4 was when sunlight broke out about Calipari & staff coming to Raleigh (and beowolf crept back down from the ledge).

I go hard after dopes who post guaranteed rumors that don’t pan out — it’s only fair I call someone out for being right.

and that’s exactly why I don’t watch that show. They do zero research and, basically, just talk out their ass for 2 mins on each topic for roughly 22 minutes total. Wasted air time

I live in burlington, its a small airport but can hold a good sized private…dont know the designation

  22. WilmingtonWolf05 04/10/2006 at 5:23 PM #

I cannot watch ATH cfpack03, it’s like listening to a really loud vaccuum for 30 minutes….

Maryland had a few years just recently where they were arguably better than Duke and definitely better than Carolina. They act like supremacy in this conference is set in stone. Its not.

Lets hope we’re talking about State’s supremacy very soon
