PLEASE MARVIN! PLEASE! YOU WILL BE FOREVER KNOWN IN WOLFPACK LORE! WE WILL RETIRE YOUR NUMBER AROUND THE STADIUM’S PERIMETER!

  2. wolfpacker 07/18/2011 at 10:31 AM #

There is a ‘Family Feud’ about to erupt and it’s not going to be pretty, but it will be entertaining.

    Somebody didn’t send enough money.

  3. logarithm 07/18/2011 at 10:39 AM #

So how do we goad Austin into spilling those beans if there really are any? Anybody care to accuse him of blowing smoke? Maybe he’ll accidentally mention something we can pounce on and crack open.

  4. whitefang 07/18/2011 at 10:47 AM #

Go read BobLee’s blog article (T&L) linked in on a previous thread if you haven’t already. Whatever Marvin knows others know. Crap floats to the top eventually. The NCAA likely already knows this stuff and if not they will. You can’t cover this stuff up forever and why the UNC admin tried is beyond me. John Edwards-type arrogance is usually the reason I suppose. But they got an asskicking coming and the longer they delay it, the more painful it is going to be.

The way I see it, either spill the beans or don’t. This “I got something nyah nyah nyah nyah nyah!” stuff is for the birds. Maybe he does, maybe he doesn’t. But if he doesn’t spill it, it does no one any good.

What good will it do us, ten years from now, if Butch is still there hauling in 5-stahhhhh recruits, beating TOB once every 3-4 years, etc., for us to say, “Well, Marvin Austing HAD some beans to spill on him, but didn’t!”

Whatever the case, it doesn’t sound like Marvin is trying to help Butch. Just saying this stuff has to hurt Butch *a little*. Just spit it out, Marvin!

  6. TruthBKnown Returns 07/18/2011 at 11:04 AM #

Does Marvin realize that EVERYONE can see his Tweets?

Or does he think it’s like an email? 😉

  7. tobaccordshow 07/18/2011 at 11:06 AM #

^ To that point, there is absolutely no reason for Austin to be prancing around saying he has beans to spill if he doesn’t.

Whatever the event, there is only one possible outcome and that outcome is good for us.

  8. Ismael 07/18/2011 at 11:11 AM #

I don’t think we have to goad marvin into doing anything. Some dumb tarheel fans look like they are more than willing to provoke him.

  9. newt 07/18/2011 at 11:11 AM #

If Marvin talks anymore, it will either be to the press or just publically on Twitter. All the press is ready to talk with him whenever he says the word, but I think he’ll just start Tweeting.

To say Chief has done nothing wrong shows an amazing amount of blind faith … Or an extreme unwillingness to face facts and reality (This – from Chapel Hill people / fans ??? NEVER).

And I <3 Marv. Go Marv … It's your birthday.

  11. nav 07/18/2011 at 11:39 AM #

You would have to think that the NCAA investigation committee is raising an eyebrow to these tweets and hopefully going to give him another phone call.
Or maybe Yahoo sports is willing to pony up some money for an exclusinve story with Marv.
Good ol’Marv. My all-time fav Heel.

  12. wolfpacker 07/18/2011 at 11:48 AM #

Since he is now in the NFL, he is realizing the TRUTH about butch, He is a LIAR. The players who have worked with him in the past have mentioned, that if his lips are moving, butch is probably lying.

  13. GAWolf 07/18/2011 at 12:27 PM #

Butch has a pretty notorious rep with thhe NFL players from his days in Cleveland if you’ll recall the quotes posted on here in the past. My guess is once Marv gets around them he’ll start to realize he was, in part, victimized.

Whitefang: “they got an asskicking coming”

Truer words never spoken. And that leg has been winding up for DECADES.

  15. Pack78 07/18/2011 at 12:35 PM #

So, apparently, BMFD is dirty; in related news Captain Louie is shocked to learn that there is gambling in Casablanca…

  16. Lunatic Fringe 07/18/2011 at 12:37 PM #

The more the Admin, HC, and fans push this stupid notion that it was just a couple of “bad seeds” in an effort to deflect all the blame to them than the more I expect some of the players will start to talk.

Marv clearly is not happy with how it has been pushed onto the players. I don’t expect Marv is too happy with how Blake was treated in all of this either and I would say he is probably more loyal to him than any of the other coaches.

  17. Pack Mentality 07/18/2011 at 1:20 PM #

Uh-oh, looks like somebody hasn’t been paid their blackmail money!

  18. ppack3 07/18/2011 at 1:52 PM #

^ You are right, Marv ‘aint gettin’ his hush cash. He isn’t getting any thing but the blame. I’m not saying he shouldn’t get some blame, but he’s seeing that he and his boys are goats, not rams.

The above posters are absolutely right about the former NFL players’ views of Butch.

BTW, Marvin is not getting any NFL money yet, either. Not until the lock out is finished. Am I wrong about that point? Marvin Austin loves attention. He will try his best to keep his name in the media eye for as long as possible.

All of these things serve to hurt the UNC cause, right now. Marvin will take the biggest offer to tell what he knows. For that matter, the other goats (Blake and Wiley, and now the Honor Court) have plenty of reasons to upset the apple cart too.

The whole keeps getting deeper and deeper.

I was at a wedding reception Saturday night and ran into a die-hard Thorpe classmate, Ram’s Club supporter, and I won’t describe him any more than to say he lives in Chapel Hill. I poked him a time or two about the situation and he finally went ballistic on me, “the system is broke, they are just part of a broken system, they can’t be expected to monitor a few bad apples, Thorpe is brilliant and such and honorable person, it’s no worse than goes on in every university with an athletic program in the US”.

I let him vent and then just said “good luck” cause you’re gonna need it.. And by the way, I’m glad to see you son is wearing a red tie tonight. Maybe he’s figuring it out!

C’mon Marvin…. Do it. Do it. Do it. Do it.

  21. ppack3 07/18/2011 at 2:25 PM #

Truth, I have thought about the reasons that Bad-doer and Holden ‘The Bag’ have been so solidly behind Butch from the beginning and why they continue to support him. I’ve come to a few conclusions.

Butch is a used car salesman. He covers his tracks while he distributes his lemons. He has probably told Bad-doer and The Bag that he had nothing to do with any of this (obviously) and then he distributes everyone’s snake oil orders. Another thing that was mentioned above carries weight, in my mind. Butch has his record of circumventing the NCAA sanctions at Miami, to use as a selling point. “If we can just make it through this, I will get the Football Program to the mountain-top even if they do sanction us.” These are reasons, aside from egotism and greed, that have fueled support for Butch.

What keeps them behind Butch? Fear. No coach wants to follow this act. They would have their hands tied behind their back and wouldn’t get paid like they should be paid, either. UNC is suffering from the raises that they gave to Davis, (another reason that they can’t fire him without proof that he has cheated). If UNC fired Butch without cause, they’d be paying his salary throughout his contract, leaving little money for the next guy.

They are also in a huge pickle with respect to the stadium expansion. That project may be “paid for,” but not all with real money. It’s paid for with a lot of pledges of support. If the money stops rolling in, that ball rolls down hill. If the fans’ support tanks, and it will if they suffer like I think they will, not only will the seats be empty but the Athletic Department will be in serious debt.

In my eyes, Butch’s departure is inevitable. I may be wrong. But, I may be right. If I’m right, UNC Football will be more irrelevant than ever, for a long, long time.

    Go Big Marv, GO !!!!

I’ve never heard your voice, but I love the tune you’re singin’ 😉

  24. TruthBKnown Returns 07/18/2011 at 3:49 PM #

Another reason they would have for keeping Butch is because it would helps maintain the facade that it was just a few bad apples that caused all this. If they were to fire Butch (and maybe Baddour, and possibly even Thorp), that would be tantamount to admitting the problems are much deeper than they care to admit.

And just being objective, maybe we should consider that Marvin has something to gain by pushing some of the blame back toward Carolina. So can he be trusted fully? He’s not just an objective observer without a dog in this fight. His reputation is tainted. We say that folks at Carolina maybe want to blame a few scapegoats to help themselves look better. Well, maybe Marvin is doing the same thing and we don’t see it because we LIKE what he’s saying about spilling the beans.

I’m just saying. When the shoe was on a different foot, and they were trying to pin stuff on Blake and a few players, we scoffed at it. Well, now Marvin is trying to pin stuff on Butch, and we lap it up like a pack of thirsty dogs. When Marvin says this, it fits our agenda.

I’m just playing devils’ advocate and trying to look at this objectively. For the record, I’m sure Marvin DOES have some beans to spill. I think a lot of their players probably do.

I believe Marv is po’d or just wanting to get paid. Either way this certainly has been an entertaining summer in lovely Chapel Hill.
