Wolfpack Nabs LB Recruit From South Carolina; More Recruiting (Updated)

South Carolina linebacker Sterling Lucas, was rumored to be a ‘lock’ for the University of South Carolina…that is until he committed to NC State this morning.

Lucas is considered one of the Top 25 middle linebackers in the country and chose the Wolfpack over offers from UNC-CH, USC, Maryland, Michigan State and Wake Forest.

Lucas becomes the 4th major linebacker prospect committed to the Wolfpack in this recruiting class joining Terrell Manning (see commitment entry), William Beasley and Dwayne Maddox (see commitment entry). It is generally understood that Terrell Manning will redshirt next year to give his injured knee sufficient time to rehabilitate therefore opening the door for one of the other three commits to potentially earn playing time as a true freshman.

On the heels of this great news for our basketball program, NC State’s Football program got into the groove in a big way as Tom O’Brien added his 4th commitment from the State of North Carolina’s 15 best high school players.

TOB Lands Important Commitment

NC State Head Coach, Tom O’Brien has been winning the respect of the media…and now it looks like he is garnering respect from the state’s top high school football players.

Coach O’Brien secured his third - and most important to date - verbal commitment of this year’s recruiting class this week when Shelby Crest linebacker, Dwayne Maddox declared his intention to join former Crest stars David Thompson, Chris Coleman, and Tim Ramseur as member’s of the Wolfpack family.

State also has verbal commitments from Pittsboro Northwood running back Tobias Palmer and Charlotte Independence tight end Mario Carter.
