One of things you hear Wolfpack fans howling about the most is the way that NC State and its teams are covered in the media. They say that NC State never gets a break in the local paper, the Charlotte paper, the television media or many of the online columnists that help shape the country’s [...]

I guess it is just a day for videos. We opened an entry on the message boards last night after Carolina received multiple gifts from the three blind officials on the floor of Madison Square Garden to allow them to advance to the NIT Championship. I particularly liked Dr. BadgerPack’s comments: So the NCAA should [...]

As I write this, it is on the keyboard of my laptop — the external one that I use was ruined when I spit out my coffee laughing out loud a few minutes ago. I was reading the online edition of the Raleigh News and Observer, and came across local raconteur Barry Saunders’ column defending [...]

I couldn’t figure out how to embed this video so I have to provide you the link to it. Pretty cool, and looks pretty good with the colors and the students’ “White Out”. Hope you enjoy. While we are showing videos, how can we not archive the following for the future? Thing about this missed [...]

As I alluded in the comments section of this thread, Robbi Pickeral penned an interesting article last Sunday, noting that Sidney Lowe had named a new strength and conditioning coach. Lowe’s choice? Wright Wayne, Lowe’s coach in 1983, who had been reassigned to other programs within the athletic department for the last 12 years. If [...]

I’m not a big fan of the NBA, but many of you guys are, so I thought I would pass this along: The Case: Nate McMillan for Coach of the Year [S]ome mysteries do exist, such as why Nate McMillan is seemingly persona non grata when it comes to Coach Of The Year discussions. You [...]

On the Sunday of the Elite Eight exactly TWENTY YEARS AGO — NC State should have been participating in the Wolfpack’s fourth Elite Eight of the previous seven years. I want some of you younger fans to step back and let that absorb for a moment. I want you to recognize the difference between touting [...]

Well…we can add the name of Hakeem Nicks to the ever-growing list of UNC-CH athletes who find academic matriculation at UNC-Chapel Hill significantly easier than daily tasks such as simultaneously thinking and breathing. Nicks will enter the powder blue’s ‘Pantheon of Paradox’ with a seat firmly entrenched between the likes of Kevin Madden, Rasheed Wallace, [...]

During our ACC Tournament viewing party, the subject came up of how much more North Carolina goes to the free throw line than their opponents. One of the excuses we had always heard was that their talent level discrepancy leads to the free throw discrepancy (and absolutely nothing to do with biased officiating…) This led us to wonder about a team like Memphis that utterly dominates Conference USA and is head and shoulders above the rest of the league, what sort of free throw advantage do they have?

N&O’s Joe Giglio: UNC finished the game with 21 attempts from the free-throw line (hitting 15), while VT finished 8 of 11. It’s not like VT took a ton of 3s and the totals were skewed by shot selection. UNC and VT each took 19 3s. And don’t confuse me here, I’m not saying UNC [...]

We really couldn’t have asked for better timing. In the first game played after we ran this must-read/watch entry, Duke and Saturday’s ACC officiating crew gave us another one one for the ages. Unlike the video from last Sunday that counted 12 steps that did not result in a travel, it is impossible for me [...]

I’ve been dying to get around to putting this on the blog for over a month now…and, I promise you that we will be focusing more and more and more on this in the future. This basketball season has finally seen attention being given to one of my biggest pet peeves in all of college [...]

Something worth mentioning and keeping in mind: Taunting of Scoring Plays Might Wipe Out Touchdowns The NCAA rules committee is considering disallowing a touchdown if a player is flagged for taunting during a scoring play. Citing an increasing concern over unsportsmanlike conduct, rules committee chairman Mike Bellotti said Wednesday that his group is considering “a [...]

While I am perfectly aware of the state of NC State basketball, I have to admit that I am quite surprised that a Big Four hoops matchup is not being televised in North Carolina. That’s right, no TV coverage for tonight’s Wake Forest – NC State game, unless you count sitting in front of your [...]

If the ACC really wants to claim the “Best college basketball in the country” title, they have to fix their officiating. I won’t even go into some of the calls during the game (it’s a bad sign when both coaches are pissed off at the referees). The calls were bad enough, but they had to [...]

Monday, November 17th I thought about this last night and was glad to see that someone tackled the issue of the bad call by the officials at the end of the San Diego @ Pittsburgh game. Deadspin has it covered at this link. An estimated 100 million dollars was wagered worldwide on the Pittsburgh/San Diego [...]

As both replays in this entry indicate, there was the slightest bit of contact during the first part of Nelson’s drive that was obviously initiated by Nelson’s hook. No whistle blew at the time of the contact. The whistle didn’t blow (and a foul wasn’t called) until a part of the play where there was [...]
