Baseball Win Streak Reaches 15

blockSbaseball

Sports Superstitions…gotta love ’em.  Once again, this is a quick and dirty special “Don’t f**k with a win streak” edition.  Was even gonna change up the block S baseball pic up there, but nah. 😀

Wolfpack Baseball overcame a somewhat sluggish night at the plate to survive a visit from Davidson tonight by a final score of 4-3.

Unable to get much going offensively for much of the game, the Pack found itself down 3-1 to the Wildcats (12-27, 7-14 SoCon) after six innings.  But in the bottom of the 7th, Jake Fincher would come up clutch with a 2 out 2 RBI single to score Jake Armstrong and Trea Turner to knot the score at 3 apiece.

Then in the bottom of the 9th with the score still tied at 3, a Logan Ratledge leadoff single and a Trea Turner walk with one out set the table for Fincher once again.  After falling behind 0-2 he would work the count to full, including a wild pitch which moved Ratledge to 3rd.

Getting a pitch he could drive, Fincher lifted it to deep center for the sac fly to push Ratledge home for the game winner.

Trea Turner continued to make opposing batteries sweat, reaching base safely four times (1 for 2, double, 3 BBs, stolen base, 2 runs scored), while Grant Clyde and Jake Armstrong each had multi-hit efforts, each going 2 for 4.

Grant Sasser would pitch a scoreless 9th inning to get the victory, but the entire bullpen came up big for the Pack tonight yielding only a single run on 4 hits (7 Ks, 2 BBs) over the last five innings to allow the bats time to finally awaken late.

With the win State is now 33-10 overall (14-7 ACC).

Tarran Senay Named ACC Player of the Week (GoPack.com)

Carolina invades Raleigh this weekend.

And oh yeah….they lost to UNC-W tonight to snap their win streak at 14.  So sad 🙁

State now owns the longest current streak in the nation at 15.  I’d consider donating a body part to get that streak up to 18 by Sunday night (while simultaneously stretching Carolina’s losing streak to 4 and tripling their losses for the year…A man can dream, right?).

I like to see what our team BA is with two outs and runners on. It’s certainly been spectacular of late.

Turner is a bad, bad dude. I have a hard time believing even the stacked weekend rotation the Holes have will bother him much. It’s when you see the likes of Fincher and Ratledge in the mix that keeps this magic run going.

Clyde-don’t know what to say about him. Saw where his uncle was a big league pitcher, but never believed possible that he would become a slugging force. I guess we had a good one that was just stuck behind Ciecin last season. Pitchers actually have to go after Senay more knowing that “Right Hand Clyde” is on deck 😉

OK…now don’t get offended, or take it wrong, but what is meant by ” …the likes of Fincher…”?

… and FWIW…. the local UNC team (seahawks) beat the Holes in Chapel Hill last night….

which may or may not make a difference in Holes attitude this weekend… we shall see….

    LMAO.

Now ‘Dog don’t go gettin’ your panties in a wad. You know you can’t trust those career .300+ utility guys with more heart than talent.

You know the type don’t ya? 😀

  8. TheCOWDOG 04/24/2013 at 8:33 PM #

Uh…what does one mean by utility? You mean
4 tool guys, utility. Right? That play everyday and won’t be around for a SR. year utility kind of guy. Yep.

  9. Wufpacker 04/24/2013 at 8:53 PM #

LOL. For the record, everything before and after “career .300+” was ‘sposed to be funny.

Now lemme go wash out these dog bites.

Chapel Hill has only played 8 road games so far? And only have 6 on the road the rest of the way? By contrast, we have 20 road games this season. Seems strange to me.

^Due to weather, the Boston College series was moved from BC to UNC. It was definitely a strange circumstance.

  12. Wufpacker 04/25/2013 at 2:25 PM #

And it’s not likely that @BC would have differed a great deal anyway.

If anything, Carolina still got cheated out of an automatic win because one of those was still rained out with no makeup.

^ I’d say u*nc has cheated themselves into a heck of a lot more wins than they were cheated out. Seriously. And I’m not talking about their football and basketball programs. Not with this specific comment, anyway.

  14. Wufpacker 04/25/2013 at 8:49 PM #

LOL. I would fully agree and was only speaking metaphorically in my ongoing effort to drag poor little BC thru the mud…which I can’t seem to stop for some reason.

    It’s a lot like a car crash.

Nah, I see your point. Should have thought about that before writing that way. Jake is a super player, day in and out, and Logan has the potential to be that same cut of player (with more bang in the bat). Ratledge probably been slowed some by the early season injury but is showing flashes now. Jake is doing what he has been doing since the first time he was asked to go out there-deliver.

Now that ” the likes” of CowDog” are continuously posting on Baseball we should get more folks around here to take interest in following this teams run 😉
