NCAA Tournament: NC State vs Temple in Dayton on Friday at 1:40pm on TBS (7:05pm update)
NC State received the East Region’s 8th seed in the East Region and will play Temple in Dayton, Ohio on Friday. With a win, the Wolfpack would most likely play #1 seeded Indiana on Sunday.
The 24-10 Wolfpack finished #33 in the RPI and was generally projected by most ‘Bracketologists’ to land on the eight line. The committee SAYS that they try to adjust bids and seeding for key injuries through the season. It is hard to imagine that NC State received such consideration for Lorenzo Brown’s injury this year. The Wolfpack was 24-7 for the year with our starting point guard and finished the season 8-3 after Brown returned from injury.
Miami, who defeated NC State in the ACC Tournament semi-finals yesterday, claimed the #2 seed in the same South region as the Wolfpack. The Hurricanes become the first team in ACC history to win the the regular season out-right and claim the ACC Tournament Championship and NOT get a #1 seed in NCAA Tournament. With the Canes getting slotted to play in the East I have to wonder why NC State wasn’t sent to the West to play opposite Gonzaga?

In other news of interest to NC State and Atlantic Coast Conference fans:
- Duke’s #2 seed in the Midwest Region challenges a lot of rationale. The Blue Devils finished the season as the #1 rated team in the RPI, yet were selected to be in the same region as the #1 overall seed (Louisville). That would intimate that the #1 RPI translated into a #8 overall seed. But, the NCAA insists they don’t use an ‘S-curve’ methodology and that seeding is almost more like slotting — done by location.
- North Carolina gets an 8 seed in the South Region and will play Villanova on Friday. With a win, the Tar Heels will probably play Roy Williams’ former school, Kansas. The Jayhawks knocked both the Wolfpack and the Tar Heels out of the last year’s NCAA Tournament.
- If the NCAA did our local schools any favor it is that they scheduled State, Duke and Carolina to all play on a Friday and Sunday cadence. If all three Triangle teams win on Thursday then this area is going to be CRAZY on Sunday!!
- Virginia and Maryland both fell short in their quest to make the Tournament – leaving only four ACC teams in this year’s tournament. Making it even more interesting that NC State and Miami are in the same bracket.
- At the end of the day, I think it is fair to draw the conclusion that the ACC really got screwed at every turn this year. If Billy Packer was still working for CBS I could guarantee you that we’d at least get some of these ACC-centric questions asked this evening.
- I must’ve been too deep in typing — someone please point me to Arizona State’s seed? #sarcasm
- SFN will do our best to get interviews with Kentucky’s Ryan Harrow and Old Dominion’s Deshawn Painter to discus their NCAA plans this year.
- Our game against Temple is scheduled to play Friday at 1:40 pm EDT on TBS.

SAD for the ACC. No Respect.
Hope to meet Miami again.
West is loaded for bear.
Damn tough draw. We got what we deserve though.
Early exit for us.
Hate to be a pessemist but looks like a early exit. If we get by Temple I can’t see anyway they get by Indiana.
Gonzaga won’t make it to sweet sixteen.
Indiana, by RPI, should be the weakest two.
No bubble injustices at all.
No respect for the ACC. No 1 seeds, but duke had a rpi of 1 and Miami #4.
ACC as a whole got screwed. No respect.
Temple has beaten Syracuse, Villanova and St Louis, so we cannot take them lightly. Duke beat them easily, however.
I don’t see how we get last IU. Way too much balance, and any foul trouble down low and Zeller has a huge day.
At least we got the Friday draw for Big Rich to heal another day.
And I am picking Miami to go to the Final Four.
It is what it is……..don’t know why if they were only going to have FOUR ACC teams in, they were not put into each region.
Computers and whatever….it looks funny….but you play the game (or perhaps NOT) and then you suffer the consequences.
Going to be a challenge……Dayton can be made in a day….did it last year. Wedding keeps me from doing it again…
Paying the appropriate price for our underachievement
Indiana is a steady team with a low ceiling. We play our best, we will beat them. But no chance if we play B+, they are too consistent.
State and Carolina each get a hard second game, but a weaker overall region. MW and West are stacked to the rafters.
Temple can’t beat a talented, diverse offensive team. Perfect matchup for us. IMHO
Temple has beaten St Louis, which is a very solid team and took the A10 title over a very athletic VCU team. Beware.
Maybe an early exit; Temple is tough and if we make it to Indiana we need an answer for Oladipo and Zeller (Oladipo was the difference in the game in Raleigh last season).
But at least we’re there and we have a chance. We’ve made the tournament, so it starts over. Awesome.
Really like how they did not reward power conference mediocrity with the play-in games in Dayton. Glad to see Boise, Middle Tenn, St. Mary’s, and La Salle there.
It will take more than our best to beat IU. IU will have to play a poor game as well. They have scores all over the floor, and we stink defensively. Oladipo is a difference maker. They also have a sharp shooting three point guy in Hull. There are no weaknesses.
Committee chair just said Ole Miss was in regardless of win or loss today … Interesting, considering they drew a 12.
At least State doesn’t have to go across the country.
And Saint Louis is a very good team. But it’s all about matchups.
How did MTSU get in, Seth? RPI like 35 slots better than UVA. Totally fair.
We could play our best game of the year and would still likely lose to Indiana
Ole Miss would have been in “First Four” otherwise. I bet they swapped with MTSU.
I love how they punish poor OOC scheduling, BTW.
Every time Indiana played a team that got hot, they lost.
Alias.. we played sloppy last year and should have beaten them…not disagreeing, but it says a lot doesn’t it.
Temple also beat LaSalle, and lost a close one to Kansas. They can play. I think we will get by but it won’t be easy.
Why all the complaining about our seeding? To be the best you have to play/beat the best. THIS is the big dance and now we must run with the big dogs. I’m not sure why that is not apparent to everyone .
Cannot believe the committee took Minnesota over either the Terps or Cava. Travesty.
