Pack 9 Sweeps Wagner
Wolfpack Baseball kept things rolling on Sunday by sweeping a pair from the Wagner Seahawks, winning big in both games, 18-0 and 25-4.
In game one the Pack wasted no time getting on the board as Trea Turner led off the game with a bunt single, and Brett Williams parked one over the left field wall for his first homer of the year and his first of two for the game. He would also double twice on a 4 for 5 effort, knock in 5 and score 3 times.
But Williams wasn’t the only player to break out at the plate on Sunday. Three other players homered in game one as well, including a solo shot by Tarran Senay to lead off the 5th, a 2 run blast from Sam Morgan in the 8th, and a grand slam from Grant Clyde, also in the 8th.
On a day when the Pack’s bats would provide support to the tune of 18 runs, Wolfpack pitching it turns out needed only one.
Starter Logan Jernigan would throw five innings of scoreless ball, scattering five hits while striking out four and walking only one to record the victory. Ryan Wilkins tossed three scoreless innings in relief giving up only a single hit and striking out three, and Dillon Frye would close out the shutout with an inning of work in the 9th. The shutout was the Pack’s third in its past four games.
In game two, it appeared the Pack might have its hands full as an error and a walk helped to load the bases in the first inning for the Seahawks’ Chris Smith who promptly sent the first pitch he saw over the left field wall for the grand slam and an early Seahawks lead of 4-0.
But Wolfpack pitching then picked up where it left off in game one as Josh Easley, Travis Orwig, Andrew Woeck, DJ Thomas and Chris Overman would combine to shut Wagner down the rest of the way.
Offensively, the Pack kept things rolling as well, including a 13 run eruption in their half of the 8th inning.
Trea Turner would homer on a 3 for 5 effort which included 6 RBI and 3 runs scored. Sam Morgan continued to tear it up at the plate, going 4 for 5 including a HR, two doubles, 2 RBI and 3 runs scored. Brett Williams (3 for 4, 5 RBI) would homer again, his third of the day, this one a grand slam. Grant Clyde (2 for 2, 3 RBI) also homered again, his second of the day.
For the two games versus the Seahawks on Sunday, the Pack would fail to score at least one run in only two of the sixteen innings in which they would come to bat. On the day the Pack would score 43 runs and hit safely 34 times.
The double header sweep runs the Pack’s overall record to 5-1 and the current win streak to five games. During the five game win streak, the Pack has outscored its opponents 67-7
Wolfpack Baseball will next see action on Tuesday at 3pm when it welcomes New Mexico State to town for the first of two games, then it’s on to Myrtle Beach next weekend for the CCU Invitational where the Pack will face off against UMBC, Fla. Atlantic and Coastal Carolina.

Someone must have sacrificed a chicken to take the curse off of the bats. Or maybe just brought a 12 piece bucket of extra spicy from Bojangles into the clubhouse. Either way, great weekend for Pack baseball.
Or scheduled LaSalle, Villanova and Wagner. Still great news occring with the contact for power to go along with some solid outings by Jerigan.
Looking forward to seeing us cross the state line to play teams like Coastal and Fla Atlantic.

I guess maybe that opening day hiccup and long weather break between games got our boys full of piss and vinegar.
I did read that Turner was playing SS now. Does he project to be able to handle short at the professional level? Just curious.

Trea was a SS out of HS, so this is his natural position.
Happy to see the bats come alive. Even happier to see the starters and the pen both be dominant. Now if we can do it when the weather warms up and we’re facing guys that can actually hit…then we’ll have something.
Billy Witchdoctor will be needed more yet. I’ll even go so far as to say we’ll need Jobu to help the boys hit once the ACC season arrives. I just hope Rodon doesn’t drink his shot of tequila and piss him off. Carlos don’t need a bat to the skull.
