Rodon Bounces Back, Pack No-Hits LaSalle
In his first start since the opening day disappointment of giving up 5 runs on 3 HRs and losing a start for the first time in his college career, Carlos Rodon wasted no time establishing himself as dominant once again as he went 7 full innings and combined with frosh righty Karl Keglovits to no hit the LaSalle Explorers Saturday at Doak Field and give the Pack a 5-0 victory.
Along the way, Rodon struck out 14 and walked only one to record his first win of the season. Keglovits came on in relief to start the 8th inning and went the rest of the way. Like Rodon, he gave up no hits, striking out one and giving up no walks.
Through the first five innings, the Wolfpack offense sputtered with only 3 base hits, and stranding 7 baserunners. For the game, State would leave 14 total baserunners stranded (including leaving them loaded in the 7th).
But in the 6th inning timely hitting finally arrived when the Pack would string together 6 hits, including a Tarran Senay 2 run shot to break the 0-0 tie. It was Senay’s first homer of the year, and likewise the Wolfpack’s. The Pack would add three more in the inning as both Matt Bergquist and Sam Morgan would tally RBI singles, and Trea Turner would score from third on a wild pitch to make the score 5-0.
Sam Morgan, Jake Fincher and Will Nance would have multi-hit games (all went 2 for 5). Freshman Brian Taylor went 1 for 2 with a double, while Brett Austin would triple for his only hit of the game (1 for 4).
State is now 3-1 and riding a three game winning streak.
The Pack is currently scheduled to play a twin bill on Sunday, with the first pitch of game one tentatively scheduled for 11am. As of now, it even appears Mother Nature might stop being such a bitch and cooperate, temporarily at least.

And don’t forget to make your way over to the SFN Forums for discussion on all things “Wolfpack”, and even some fun diversions like gay dogs. Seriously. If that won’t convince you to get your butt over there I guess nothing will.

Congrats to the team, and the comeback by Rodon. Glad one Wolfpack team showed up today, and won.
How can this be? I read on another thread that the team was overrated and Rodon washed up.
Wow, dominate performance by Rodon.
Awesome! After he throws another, the first game will be forgotten and he’ll be hyped as the next Cy Young award winner even before he gets to the Bigs..
Cool, my son called me after seeing this and his alma mater(Gamecocks) threw a no hitter too, but it took 3 pitchers to do it…
Anyone at the game? I was at the opener, and Rodon really struggled with the tight strike zone. I wholeheartedly believe it was rust, and it is extremely difficult to be effective in your first start of the season when the K-zone is so small. I noticed he couldn’t put a lot of bite on his off-speed stuff, and they ended up flattening out, then getting plain flattened over the fences. I have no doubt that Rodon will continue to be the ace he is.
Also, many thanks to you Wuf (and others) for keeping baseball going on the main page!
since THEY are ranked #1
this has the potential to be
