Report: NC State offers Offensive Coordinator job to Matt Canada
We opened up a broader conversation regarding the construction of Coach Doeren’s new coaching staff at NC State – including a suggestion of an attractive candidate for the staff – in this entry that I definitely encourage you to check out.
This morning it has been reported that University of Wisconsin offensive coordinator, Matt Canada, has been offered the same position on Coach Doeren’s new staff in Raleigh. Canada was Doeren’s offensive coordinator at Northern Illinois in 2011 before heading over to Wisconsin this past season.
UW athletic director Barry Alvarez is high on Canada and was pushing to keep him with the program, according to the source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he is not cleared to speak on personnel matters.
According to the source, Canada was waiting as long as he could to see who Alvarez might hire as UW’s next head coach, but Doeren wanted a decision by Friday morning.
A job posting for a new offensive coordinator appeared on the UW website earlier in the day, but that reportedly is a procedural matter. According to UW officials, the jobs of all nine assistants will be posted by the end of Friday, because their contracts expire Feb. 3.
Canada worked as the offensive coordinator under Doeren at Northern Illinois in 2011 before coming to UW. Doeren, a former UW defensive coordinator, was upset at the time about losing Canada to the Badgers.
While Canada received some heat from fans earlier in the season, his creative offensive game plan was a major factor in the Badgers’ 70-31 victory over Nebraska in the Big Ten Conference title game.
According to reports, Doeren first offered the job to Utah State offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Matt Wells, who turned it down.
You can click here to see Canada’s current profile on the Wisconsin website that talks mostly about his success at Northern Illinois. Canada’s entire coaching career has been spent in the midwest – having also coached at Indiana and Butler.
You can click here for an ‘introduction to Matt Canada’ from the Bleacher Report. (God forgive me for linking something from that site).

If Canada accepts, hopefully he’ll have a longer tenure here than Norm Chow.
I thought we had traded Russel Wilson for two offensive linemen to be named later. Apparently it was an offensive coordinator.
Canada as OC? A little concerned – in Canada they think you only get 3 downs and not 4. In spite of this, Canada usually has some exciting offensive games.
Can you imagine NC State scoring 70 on Nebraska?
Now we just need a graduate school QB transfer to run the O
If he could do that one year removed RW then call me impressed. He won’t have the Monte Ball and talented OL as a luxury, but Shad and Creecy along with a handful of OL that have seen some action should suffice in the bottomless pit that is ACC football.
About that quarterback…maybe the starting quarterback in the Rose Bowl would consider coming to Raleigh. He’s from my hometown in East Tennessee and he’s a great young man, competitor and leader. Sound familiar?
Word play a cometh…
“Blame Canada”
“Pack OC starts cold”
“Canada O chills Heels”
“Winipeg Jet Sweep!”
“Thomas finds Passage”
“Doeren lands a Mullet”
Please, oh, please…
i know this is off topic , but there is no thread for this thought. i want to personally thank fire (chris ) for showing the letter written to coach from the ncaa investigator in his ” running with the wolves”
video. it removed 20 years of questions from my mind. it made my heart feel good to see that the lead investigator completely exonerated v and stated in the letter that he would want his son to play for coach. i wish mr golenbock to burn in hell for the lies that brought pain to a great man and a great fan base who loved him dearly. thanks again chris
“Offers” now can be changed to “hires”.
